Summer Reading Requirements for Students Entering Second, Third, and Fourth Grades

For the summer of 2025, students entering Second Grade must read three books of at least 60 pages each and submit handwritten reports on the first day of school. Third graders are required to read three books of at least 80 pages each, while Fourth graders need to read three books of at least 100 pages each, with specific guidelines for the reports.

Students entering Fourth Grade must choose books from various genres, write neatly in cursive, and include specific information in their reports. Each report should have three paragraphs summarizing the story's beginning, middle, and end, with each sentence containing at least six words.

Summer Reading Requirements for All Students Entering Upper School Grade Levels

Students entering Upper School Grade Levels should read at least four books during the summer and keep notecards or notes for each book with essential details. No written reports are necessary, but students must participate in class discussions and have their notes ready on the first day of school.

For students entering Fifth Grade, the required book is "Because of Winn-Dixie" by Kate DiCamillo, along with three other book choices from a provided list. The list includes a variety of titles from different genres for students to choose from.
