REQUIREMENTS Summer 2025
Summer Reading Requirements for Students Entering Second, Third, and Fourth Grades: Students entering Second Grade are required to read three books of at least 60 pages. The hand written reports must be returned on the first day of school. The book report forms are provided by the First Grade teacher. Students entering Third Grade are required to read three books of at least 80 pages each. The hand written reports must be returned on the first day of school. Please refer to additional instructions below: ● The student may choose the book genre, i.e. fiction, nonfiction, fantasy, biography, etc. ● The reports must be written neatly in either print or cursive. ● Each report must include the following information: The student’s first and last name, the title of the book, and the author’s name. ● Each report must include three paragraphs of at least three sentences in each, summarizing the beginning, middle, and end of the story. ● Each sentence must have at least six words in each. Students entering Fourth Grade are required to read three books of at least 100 pages each. The hand written reports must be returned on the first day of school. Entering Upper School Grade Levels ● All students should read at least four (4) books over the summer. Please see the attached individualized grade level lists. ● Keep a notecard or notes for each book with title, author, and characters’ names as well as a short summary to help them discuss their books in class in September. Notes may be typed or written in cursive. ● Please take note of lists in susbequent years so that you are not reading books that may be required later. ● No written reports are necessary but be prepared to participate in class discussions! Students must have their notecards or notes on the first day of school. Be sure to put your name on your notes.
