Collective Project Abstract and Propositions

The Hotel project explores hospitality as a space of exchange within a skyscraper, questioning the needs for an architecture of temporality and hospitality. It envisions the hotel as a place of anonymity and constant activity, located in Midtown Manhattan. The project aims to set a standard for an architecture of hospitality that embraces the energy of New York City while accommodating various guests and staff.

About The Site and Type

The former Hotel Pennsylvania, designed by McKim, Mead & White, was the largest hotel in the world with 2,200 guest rooms. The Pennsylvania Station area has undergone significant development plans, including the proposed "Empire Station complex" by Vornado Realty Trust. The area has a rich history of transportation development, allowing for efficient travel across Manhattan.

Development of Transportation in New York City

New York City has seen a continuous evolution of transportation modes over the years, from ferries in the 17th century to the opening of Penn Station in 1910 and the development of airports and tunnels in the 20th century. These advancements have facilitated movement across the city and beyond.
