Foreword from the Convenor

The Sexual and Gender Based Violence Rights and Justice Master Trainers’ Journey began in 2021, aiming to strengthen partnerships in S&GBV training and education to promote sexual and reproductive justice. The project addressed the vulnerabilities and challenges of S&GBV in Northern Uganda, a region deeply affected by a violent conflict legacy. The course was designed to enhance the human resource capacity of justice, law, and order sector actors by transforming knowledge, skills, and attitudes to inform and influence policy and practice in S&GBV prevention, response, and mitigation.

Decolonial Rights and Justice Curriculum

The project activities revolved around a generative, gender and age-sensitive S&GBV Rights and Justice curriculum tailored for the young population of Uganda. The curriculum aimed to apply an intersectional and decolonial lens to understand the power dynamics influencing S&GBV challenges. The training sessions were designed to be transformative, encouraging reflexive engagement, networking, and improved practice. The curriculum development drew from existing certified curricula and was refined through norm-shifting conversations with participants at different delivery levels.

Master Trainers' Postgraduate Diploma Course

The postgraduate diploma course targeted 30 professionals to become certified Master Trainers in S&GBV rights and justice. The training was delivered through a blended approach by various institutions and guest lecturers. The Master Trainers subsequently cascaded the curriculum to three levels of professionals, aiming to reach a milestone of training 10,000 individuals. The skills acquired in the course enabled participants to offer high-quality training, services, and research in the field of S&GBV, fostering professional mobility and further studies.
