Rodrigo Gallardo's design philosophy is deeply rooted in the existing environment, focusing on memory, geographies, and creating spaces that foster connections. His approach to architecture emphasizes care, learning, and reciprocity, aiming to build spaces that listen deeply and facilitate shared meaning. Each project is centered around small acts of repair and subtle transitions, embodying his belief in a more thoughtful and responsive architecture.

Located in Parelheiros, Sao Paulo, Brazil, this project delves into reimagining the role of architecture in contexts influenced by informality, spatial fragmentation, and cultural resilience. Instead of static structures, the focus is on adaptive strategies that support transformation and new ways of living. Gallardo's work in Vargem Grande explores how Guarani knowledge can reshape the relationship between the forest, school, and home, emphasizing memory, transformation, and cultural continuity.

Through a comprehensive site analysis that included mapping exercises, satellite mapping, and direct engagement with the community, Gallardo identified key challenges such as the neglect of the forest, lack of educational infrastructure, and shortage of adaptable housing. These insights informed the conceptual and architectural direction of the project, leading to the development of interventions like a school, housing typology, and elevated pathways designed to evolve and respond to the community's needs.
