No marriage right to same-sex couple: Justice Bhat agrees with CJI in SMA, but disagrees on adoption right of queer people
Three judges of the five-judge Constitution bench disagreed with the Chief Justice of India on adoption rights for LGBTQIA+ people but agreed that the Special Marriage Act, 1956 (SMA) cannot be interpreted to enable marriage between queer persons. Justice Ravindra Bhat disagreed with the CJI's opinion of allowing non-heterosexual couples to jointly adopt. The majority judges held that non-heterosexual couples cannot jointly adopt a child. The unveiling ceremony of the 19-feet tall "Statue of Equality" witnessed the presence of more than 650 Indian-Americans. The Statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the Principal architect of India’s Constitution, was unveiled in Maryland suburb of the U.S. Capital on October 14, 2023.

Woman kills 2-year-old niece, hides her body under the sofa
