The Liberation of Lorient Pocket

The article delves into the history of the liberation of Lorient, one of the last cities in France to be freed from Nazi occupation in May 1945. The city, used as a primary submarine base by the Germans, was besieged by Allied forces, leading to a prolonged resistance. The surrender of the German garrison in Lorient marked the end of a significant chapter in the city's history, with the former submarine base later repurposed by the French Navy until 1997.
