The mission of the Mount Pleasant Police Department is to enhance the wellness of the community by working in partnership with citizens to protect life and property, maintain order, understand and serve community needs, and enforce the law in a manner consistent with democratic values.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department practices a community-oriented policing philosophy. Every day we strive to build and maintain meaningful relationships with our citizens. maintenance through the presence of uniformed police of cers. Uniformed patrol is comprised of eight patrol districts that provide police service to the Town of Mount Pleasant. Uniformed of cers are responsible for patrolling 52 square miles and providing law enforcement services to over 90,000 residents and visitors. fi fi fi fi fi The department’s eight patrol districts are patrolled by six patrol teams that work ten hour shifts. Each team is comprised of two Sergeants, two Field Training Of cers, and seven Of cers. Of cers are assigned to each district for at least nine months at a time so they become familiar with the citizens, businesses, and activity in their area of responsibility. This helps build a strong partnership between the of cers and the citizens they serve. The Traf c Unit speci cally addresses the needs of motorists who utilize the Town’s roadways. A Lieutenant and a Sergeant oversee of cers in this unit. These of cers seek to prevent traf c collisions and promote public safety by enforcing traf c regulations and using those as educational opportunities. Traf c Of cers are trained in collision reconstruction and are on call for serious and/or fatal collisions that occur within the Town.
