Puji syukur penulis panjatkan kepada Allah SWT atas segala limpahan rahmat, nikmat, dan karunia-Nya, sehingga penulis dapat menyusun Modul Pengayaan berupa Komunitas Belajar (Kombel) Bahasa Inggris untuk siswa kelas VIII ini. Bahasa Inggris telah menjadi lingua franca atau bahasa internasional, termasuk bagi masyarakat di Asia Tenggara yang memiliki berbagai bahasa ibu dan bahasa resmi. Oleh karena itu, kemampuan berbahasa Inggris menjadi kebutuhan dasar yang perlu dimiliki oleh seluruh anak Indonesia. Kemampuan ini memungkinkan mereka untuk berkomunikasi dengan orang dari berbagai latar belakang budaya, membuka peluang karir yang lebih luas, serta meningkatkan kualitas hidup mereka di era globalisasi ini. Selaras dengan komitmen pemerintah untuk mengembangkan setiap dimensi dalam profil pelajar Pancasila yang mencakup kebhinekaan global, penguatan pendidikan bahasa Inggris menjadi hal yang diutamakan dalam Kurikulum Merdeka. Kurikulum Merdeka memberikan keleluasaan kepada pendidik untuk menciptakan pembelajaran berkualitas yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan lingkungan peserta didik. Pembelajaran ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kemudahan bagi siswa dalam memahami penguasaan bahasa Inggris, sehingga mereka mampu berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris dengan baik dan benar. Pembelajaran bahasa Inggris difokuskan pada penguatan enam keterampilan berbahasa, yakni: menyimak/ mendengarkan (listening), berbicara (speaking), membaca (reading), memirsa (viewing), menulis (writing), dan mempresentasikan (presenting) secara terpadu dalam berbagai jenis teks. Modul Pengayaan ini merupakan produk dari Komunitas Belajar (Kombel) Tenaga Pendidik dan Kependidikan SMP Negeri 2 Kemiri, yang dirancang untuk memperkuat kompetensi guru dari segi pengetahuan, keterampilan, maupun sikap secara utuh. Materi ajar pada modul pengayaan bahasa Inggris ini mengacu pada materi bahasa Inggris semester 1 untuk siswa kelas VIII, berdasarkan Implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka, yang terdapat pada buku “English for Nusantara” yang telah dimodifikasi sesuai karakteristik, potensi, dan kebutuhan peserta didik. Demi perbaikan dan kesempurnaan modul pengayaan ini, dengan segala kerendahan hati penulis memohon saran dan kritik yang membangun dari berbagai pihak. � Recounting means talking about past experiences. Most of the time we include details of what happened in the past when recounting. At school, teachers also ask students to recount their past experiences. For example, they ask the students to recount their last holiday experiences or their activities on the last Independence Day. � To recount these past experiences, we need to use Past Simple verbs. The Past Simple verbs are usually formed by adding ‘d’, ‘ed’, or ‘ied’ to the base verb. Look at the following examples! • celebrate + d → celebrated • participate + d → participated • fail + ed → failed • happen + ed → happened • try + [change the ‘y’ to ‘i’ ] + ed → tried • study + [change the ‘y’ to ‘i’] + ed → studied (We call these regular verbs) � Many other verbs, however, are irregular.
