Washington, DC [US], January 20 (ANI): Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States as during the 60th Presidential Inauguration at the US Capitol in Washington, DC. US Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath to Trump. Prior to Trump’s swearing-in, JD Vance was sworn-in as US VicePresident. Earlier, Trump alongside outgoing US President Joe Biden arrived at US Capitol from White House for the swearingin ceremony. Earlier Vice President Kamala Harris accompanied VP elect JD Vance to the Capitol. Donald Trump‘s wife, Melania Trump, arrived at Rotunda along with Vance’s wife, Usha Vance. Biden’s wife, Jill Biden and Kamala Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, arrived ahead of them. Trump’s cabinet nominees took seats ahead of his inauguration. Former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and Washington DC [US], January 21 (ANI): Indian-origin entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy will no longer co-head the Department of Government Efficiency with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the former announced hours after US President Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday (local time). Ramaswamy is planning to announce a run for Ohio Governor next week, Politico reported. In a post on X, he said, “It was my honor to help support the creation of DOGE. I’m confident that Elon & team will succeed in streamlining government. I’ll have more to say very soon about my future plans in Ohio. Most importantly, we’re all-in to help President Trump make America great again!” Musk made it known recently that he wanted Ramaswamy out of DOGE, sources told Politico on the condition of anonymity. Ramaswamy “just burned through the bridges and he finally burned Elon,” said a Republican strategist close to Trump advisers. “Everyone wants him out of tech billionaire Elon Musk, the co-chairs of the newlycreated Department of Government Efficiency, also attended the ceremony. Former US Presidents and First ladies, including Bill Clinton and former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, George Bush and Laura Bush attended Trump’s inauguration. Former US President Barack Obama was also present during the ceremony. Donald Trump‘s children — Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr, Tiffany Trump, Eric Trump and Baron Trump were present in US Capitol to attend his inauguration. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Google CEO Sundar Pichai attended the ceremony. After the swearing-in, President Trump will part because of a mindset in the country that has “venerated mediocrity over excellence,” Politico reported. In a statement, Trump transition spokesperson Anna Kelly praised Ramaswamy, saying he “played a critical role in helping us create DOGE” and that his plan to run for governor “requires him to remain outside of DOGE based on the structure that we announced today.” A source told Politico that Musk and Ramaswamy are now on good terms and that “the reality is that it wasn’t possible” to run for governor and co-lead DOGE “both at once.” A major divide emerged within Donald Trump’s MAGA team, as Musk and Ramaswamy who advocated for the expansion of the visa program for ‘highly skilled workers’ faced heavy backlash from within President-elect’s base, CNN reported. In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Musk emphasised the importance of attracting top engineering talent to maintain America’s technological edge. “The number of people who are super talented engineers AND super motivated in the USA is far too low.” Ramaswamy, a first-generation American and Trump’s appointee to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, echoed Musk’s sentiments. He argued that cultural stagnation and a preference for mediocrity have led to a reliance on foreign-born talent. At a rally on Sunday, Trump talked about DOGE and did not indicate that any changes were imminent. He said, “We have [Musk] and Vivek and some great people working on a thing called costs.” (ANI) DONALD TRUMP SEE PAGE 6 Indian-origin Ramaswamy withdraws from Trump’s ‘DOGE’ Remember: “if my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” - Prophet Jeremiah Mar-a-Lago, out of DC”. The H1-B visa debate was the final nail in his coffin, Politico reported. In late December, Ramaswamy criticized American culture, saying that tech companies hire foreign workers in

January 24, 2025 Friday INDIA THIS WEEK US: President Trump reaffirms support for H-1B visas, calls for skilled immigrants to boost economy Washington DC [US], January 22 (ANI): US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his stance to support the H-1B visa program, which allows employers in the US to hire nonimmigrant workers for speciality occupations, stating that the country needs “competent” and “great” individuals to come to the US and that this can be achieved through the H1B visa program. While addressing the media at The White House on Tuesday (local time), Trump emphasised his belief in the importance of attracting skilled individuals to the country, citing the H-1B visa program as a key tool in facilitating this. He further argued that allowing “quality people” to come into the US further helps in bolstering the economy by supporting various industries. The US President also pointed to the diverse range of roles covered by the program, from maitre d’s and wine experts to high-quality waiters, noting that these individuals contribute to the growth of businesses. “You got to get the best people...We have to have the quality people coming in... By doing that, we’re expanding businesses, and that takes care of everybody... But what I really do feel is that we have to let really competent people, great people, come into our country and we do that through the H-1B,” Trump said. Chhattisgarh: 14 Naxals killed in encounter with police in ChhattisgarhOdisha border G a r i a b a n d (Chhattisgarh) [India], January 21 (ANI): Fourteen Naxals were killed in an encounter with Chhattisgarh police at the ChhattisgarhOdisha border on Monday, the Chhattisgarh Police stated. According to the police, a member of the Naxal group, who had a bounty of 1 crore rupees on his head, was also killed in the encounter. According to the police the encounter is still underway and more details are awaited on the matter. On January 17, two Border Security Force (BSF) jawans sustained injuries after Naxals set off an improvised explosive device (IED) in Chhattisgarh‘s Narayanpur district. The incident happened when in the morning when a BSF roadopening party was being deployed up between Camp Garpa and Garpa village, added the police official. The incident has been confirmed by Narayanpur SP Prabhat Kumar and detailed information will be shared by the officials later in the day. On January 16, two CRPF jawans were injured in a pressure IED blast planted by Naxalites near Putkel village under the Basaguda police station in Bijapur district. T On January 12, five Naxalites including two women were killed in an encounter with security forces in Bijapur. Several automatic and other weapons and explosives were recovered from the forests under the National Park area of the Bijapur district. The recovered weapons included one SLR rifle, one 12-bore rifle, two single-shot rifles, one BGL launcher, and one locally made Bharmar gun, along with explosives, Maoist literature, and other Naxal materials. Speaking to ANI about the South Bastar naxal encounter, IG Bastar P Sundarraj said, “Bodies of 12 Naxalites, including 5 women, were recovered in the encounter that took place at 9 pm between security forces and Naxalites on January 16.” “A large number of arms and ammunition were also recovered. We are moving ahead in our goal of taking action against Naxalism,” said P Sundarraj. (ANI) “I like very competent people coming into our country, even if that involves them training and helping other people that may not have the qualifications they do. But I don’t want to stop. And I’m not just talking about engineers. I’m talking about people at all levels. We want competent people coming into our country. And H-B1, I know the program very well. I use the program. Maitre d’s, wine experts, even waiters, high-quality waiters,” he added. T r u m p ’ s remarks highlight his administration’s focus on attracting top talent from abroad, arguing that such individuals not only fill critical positions but also drive business expansion, which benefits the broader workforce. Earlier in December, Trump expressed his support for the H-1B visa programme and acknowledged frequently using it for his own properties, calling it a “great programme,” according to a report by the New York Post. Notably, during Trump’s first term, the administration imposed restrictions on H-1B visas, citing concerns over “abuse” and “economic strain.” In 2016, Trump condemned the program, describing it as a means for companies to replace American workers with lower-paid foreign employees. Restrictions tightened further in 2020 in response to economic challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. (ANI) J a l g a o n (Maharashtra) [India], January 22 (ANI): At least eight passengers of the Pushpak Express were killled after being hit by the Karnataka Express in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra on Wednesday, a senior official confirmed. According to initial reports, the passengers of the Pushpak Express had stepped outside their coaches due to a suspected fire on the train. While they were outside, the Karnataka Express passed through the adjacent track, and several passengers were hit by the moving train. H o w e v e r , the Nashik Divisional Commissioner mentioned that these are initial reports, and there is a possibility of more casualties. “As per the latest report, eight people have died, but the numbers may rise. The administration is providing all possible help,” Divisional Commissioner Gedam told ANI. “The collector has informed me that the passengers of the Pushpak Express were on the track when the Karnataka Express came from the other track,” Gedam said, while adding, “The Additional Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police, Collector, and others are on their way. We are coordinating with DRM and Railway officials.” According to Divisional Commissioner, around eight ambulances have been deployed, along with railway ambulances. “Eight ambulances reached the spot as per the latest available information, and additional rescue vans and railway ambulances are being rushed to the spot,” Gedam mentioned. (ANI) Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], January 22 (ANI): In a recent development regarding the Saif Ali Khan (Pataudi) family’s property, estimated to be worth around Rs 15,000 crore in Bhopal, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has lifted the stay imposed on the ancestral property in 2015. As a result of the court’s decision, there is a possibility that Saif Ali Khan‘s family may lose the property to government acquisition under the Enemy Property Act, 1968. According to the court order dated December 13, Justice Vivek Agarwal stated that a statutory remedy exists under the amended Enemy Property Act, 2017, though the parties are directed to avail themselves of such remedy. “It is directed that if representation is filed within thirty days from today, then the appellate authority shall not advert to the aspect of limitation and shall deal with the appeal on its own merits,” the court’s order read. Meanwhile, Bhopal Collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh said he had not yet reviewed the court’s order and would follow the decisions of the court after analysing it. “It is brought to my notice that the high court has passed an order. I have not received the order yet. I will see the order and then we will follow whatever instructions have been given by the court,” Bhopal Collector said. The Enemy Property Act, 1968, enables and regulates the appropriation of property owned by Pakistani nationals in India. It was enacted after the 1965 Indo-Pakistani war. According to reports, in 2015 it was declared that the legal heir of Bhopal‘s last Nawab Hamidullah Khan’s property was his elder daughter, Abida Sultan, who had migrated to Pakistan. Therefore, the property falls under the Enemy Property Act. In contrast, the Nawab’s second daughter, Sajida Sultan, remained in India, and her descendants, Saif Ali Khan and Sharmila Tagore, who inherited a share of the property, are now presenting their claim on it. They bootstrapped crimes on backs of meek, While voices silenced dare not speak. Behind the iron bars they throw, The innocent, for crimes too low, While in their clubs they drink and sway, Their duty long since cast away. Elected hands once sworn to guide, Now craft a system steeped in pride, A shadowed realm where truth is bent, And mercy’s voice is long absent. Their kin and cronies, free to roam, Escape the fate of crimes well-known. With pardons signed, their sins erased, The guilty stride with shameless grace. They preach of justice, new and bold, While hearts of stone their secrets hold. A leader’s name they dare defile, Who seeks to cleanse their toxic guile. Yet tides will turn, as tides must do, When truth ascends, their lies unglue. The people’s voice, a thunder’s cry, Will strip the wolves of their disguise.
