CM Mamata Banerjee said, “I had written two letters to the Prime Minister, but I did not get any reply from him, rather I got a reply from the Minister of Women and Child Development, but I also replied to her reply and informed the Prime Minister. When the Code of Justice Bill was passed in a hurry before the elections, I had said that it should not be passed in a hurry, the states were not consulted in this. I had opposed it many times as no advice was taken from the states in this regard, it should have been passed after discussing with the Rajya Sabha, the opposition, and all the parties, but this was not done. That is why today we are bringing this (bill) to secure protection for women. If Bengal is Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah for welcoming him at the airport. I would like to extend greetings to all protesting for justice to the victim doctor. To the family, I would like to express my grief. We are calling for stringent punishment for the rapists. September 6, 2024 Friday INDIA THIS WEEK Telangana: BRS MLAs conduct tour of flood-affected areas in Khammam, lambasts Cong Govt Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], September 4 (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party MLAs conducted an extensive tour of the flood-affected areas in Khammam and expressed disappointment with the Congress government’s “failure” to respond effectively to the floods. Following the tour in Khammam, including Karunagiri Rajiv Gruhakalpa, Venkateshwara Nagar, and Bokkalagadda areas on Monday, the MLAs held a press meeting at the Khammam BRS party office, where former Minister Harish Rao strongly criticised the state government’s handling of the flood situation, as per a release by the BRS. BRS leader Harish Rao expressed his deep disappointment with the government’s failure to respond effectively to the floods, as per the party release. “In the past, the government was proactive, alerting the public and taking necessary measures during such crises. However, the current administration couldn’t even dispatch a helicopter for rescue operations. The Chief Minister’s sarcastic remarks demonstrate a lack of seriousness in governance,” he said. Further, Harish Rao highlighted the extensive damage suffered by households, with losses ranging from Rs 4 to 10 lakh per family. “People have lost their gold, educational certificates, and other valuable possessions. The government’s failure to provide even basic necessities, such as clean drinking water, to those stranded in the floods is deeply concerning,” he added. He further criticized the Chief Minister, pointing out the contrast between his previous demands while in opposition and his current actions, as per the release. “When in opposition, the CM demanded Rs 20 lakh in compensation for flood victims. Now, he claims that Rs 10,000 is sufficient, which is grossly inadequate. We demand that the government provide Rs 2 lakh in compensation to each affected family,” Harish Rao asserted. Further, the leader also emphasised the need for the immediate restoration of essential services, particularly electricity, and criticised the government’s failure to maintain critical infrastructure. “The Sagar canal broke in two places due to poor welding, causing significant losses for farmers. These farmers should receive Rs 50,000 in compensation for their losses,” he demanded. Additionally, he expressed concern over the government’s alleged attempts to underreport the death toll from the floods. “In Khammam district alone, nine people lost their lives, yet the government claims only 16 deaths across the state. This attempt to obscure the truth is unacceptable,” Harish Rao said. Harish Rao also condemned the recent attack by Congress supporters on the BRS MLAs team in Khammam. “It is shocking that, while we are working to bring relief to the flood-affected people, Congress supporters resort to violence. This attack is a clear indication of their frustration and failure to stand with the people during this crisis,” Harish Rao remarked. The leader laid out the BRS party’s demands, which included — Rs 25 lakh compensation for each family that lost a loved one, Rs 30,000 per acre compensation for farmers who suffered crop losses, Rs 50,000 compensation for those affected by sand deposits. Additionally, the party also demanded a free replacement of educational certificates and other important documents lost in the floods, Rs 5.2 lakh compensation for each of the 3,000 displaced families and immediate action to restore essential services and infrastructure, as per the release. These demands are not just requests; they are essential steps needed to help the victims rebuild their lives. The government must act swiftly and responsibly, Harish Rao emphasised. FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 6, 2024 9 India to wear grand necklace of Industrial Smart Cities on backbone of Golden Quadrilateral New Delhi [India], August 28 (ANI): India will soon wear a grand necklace of Industrial Smart Cities as in a landmark decision on Wednesday, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved 12 new project proposals under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) with an estimated investment of Rs. 28,602 crore. This move is set to transform the industrial landscape of the country, creating a robust network of industrial nodes and cities that will significantly boost economic growth and global competitiveness. Spanning across 10 states and strategically planned along six major corridors, these projects represent a significant leap forward in India‘s quest to enhance its manufacturing capabilities and economic growth. These industrial areas will be located in Khurpia in Uttrakhand, Rajpura-Patiala in Punjab, Dighi in, Maharashtra, Palakkad in Kerela, Agra and Prayagraj in UP, Gaya in Bihar, Zaheerabad in Telangana, Orvakal and Kopparthy in Andhra Pradesh and Jodhpur-Pali in Rajasthan. NICDP is designed to foster a vibrant industrial ecosystem by facilitating investments from both large anchor industries and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). These industrial nodes will act as catalysts for achieving USD 2 trillion in exports by 2030, reflecting the government’s vision of a self-reliant and globally competitive India. The new industrial cities will be developed as greenfield smart cities of global standards, built “ahead of demand” on the ‘plug-n-play’ and ‘walkto-work’ concepts. This approach ensures that the cities are equipped with advanced infrastructure that supports sustainable and efficient industrial operations. Aligned with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, the projects will feature multi-modal connectivity infrastructure, ensuring seamless movement of people, goods, and services. The industrial cities are envisioned to be growth centres for transformation of whole region. The approval of these projects is a step forward in realizing the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat‘ – a developed India. By positioning India as a strong player in the Global Value Chains (GVC), the NICDP will provide developed land parcels ready for immediate allotment, making it easier for domestic and international investors to set up manufacturing units in India. This aligns with the broader objective of creating an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ or a self-reliant India, fostering economic growth through enhanced industrial output and employment. NICDP is expected to generate significant employment opportunities, with an estimated 1 million direct jobs and upto 3 million indirect jobs being created through planned industrialization. This will not only provide livelihood opportunities but also contribute to the socioeconomic upliftment of the regions where these projects are being implemented. The projects under the NICDP are designed with a focus on sustainability, incorporating ICT-enabled utilities and green technologies to minimize environmental impact. By providing quality, reliable, and sustainable infrastructure, the government aims to create industrial cities that are not just hubs of economic activity but also models of environmental stewardship. The approval of 12 new industrial nodes under the NICDP marks a significant milestone in India‘s journey towards becoming a global manufacturing powerhouse. With a strategic focus on integrated development, sustainable infrastructure, and seamless connectivity, these projects are set to redefine India‘s industrial landscape and drive the nation’s economic growth for years to come. In addition to these new sanctions, the NICDP has already seen the completion of four projects, with another four currently under implementation. This continued progress highlights the government’s commitment to transforming India‘s industrial sector and fostering a vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive economic environment. (ANI)
