FROM THE CHAIR

A very warm welcome back to Walton Lane to our sponsors, supporters, players and volunteers for our first home game of the 2024/25 season. By the time you read this our 2024/25 season will be 3 games old, so we probably have an indication of what our season might look like. Let’s reflect on what the club achieved last season; • Senior Team – Ashley Harris was the Top Scorer in the SCFL, we had the highest attendances in Division 2, we finished 2nd in Div 2 in a keenly fought head to head with the eventual Champions (Storrington), 6 of our senior players came through our youth system, and we were Fair Play Winners of Div 2. • U15s – Our Invincibles – Won every league game Champions and promoted • U13s – Clear League Winners and promoted We go into the 2024/25 season having moved a fair number of players into higher league clubs, a testimony to our success as a feeder club and a developer of talent. This season we also have our development squad back and competing in the West Sussex League. The gaffers have been working hard through the summer to put together a squad that will represent us at Senior and development level. That means we look forward to a new look ‘development season’ in which we nurture our older youths and prepare them for transition into the development squad, who in turn will be coached to senior level by our FA Coaching Teams. Good luck to all our teams at every level in 2024/25 Neil H-W Neil Holley-Williams CHAIRMAN

THE GAFFERS CORNER

Morning all and welcome to the first home encounter of our 24-25 campaign in the Southern Combination. It’s been a tough summer with a number of players moving on to play higher up the football pyramid so we have a complete new build of the squad and not really had much of a preseason together. This has meant the start for the boys already has been challenging . With lessons learnt at Hailsham in the opener, we played better at Capel in another tough encounter last weekend and after defending our goal under a great deal of pressure from the off, we slipped behind in the second half and just couldn’t quite find the final bit of quality when our chances arose There are a lot of new faces on show again today, as well as a couple of familiar faces and let’s hope for a good performance in another tough encounter as we welcome Chichester B to Walton Lane this morning As ever, myself and Leon work hard behind the scenes to try and get us going, but patience is required from all. It will come together and there are many positives to be taken so far. Many thanks to the supporters and committee for your support as ever and enjoy the game. Up the Robins Big Tone Tony Hancock 1st TEAM MANAGER

CLUB HISTORY

Formed in 1901, Bosham were founder members of Division Three of the County League in 1983/84 following a long and established period within local football. Their inaugural season at the higher standard ended with a commendable fourth placed finish. The biggest achievement in the 80’s was winning the Division Three League Cup in 1985. Throughout the 1990’s Bosham had mixed fortunes in senior football. The highlight in 1999, winning the coveted ‘treble’ of the West Sussex Premier Division; Malcolm Simmonds Cup and the Centenary Cup – a feat no other club has achieved. At the turn of the century Bosham were plying their trade in County Football League. Bosham won the Division 3 title in 2000. Later would see promotion to the Southern Combination League after a league restructure. In 2005 they reached the Final of the Sussex Intermediate Cup, where they were defeated by Rustington. In 2009 they were again beaten by a solitary goal to nil against fellow Division Three side, Forest, in the final of the same trophy. In 2010 however Bosham did find the winning formula, drafting in a largely youthful squad alongside one or two more experienced heads, to lead the club to the Division 3 title for the third time; the Division Three Challenge Cup, and the Team of the Year award. The only downside was that due to league regulations Bosham were unable to be promoted due to ground requirements. Following this success over the next few years, Bosham picked up lots of silverware. In 2011 Bosham also won a national competition supporting grassroots football with DIY Improvement company Wickes. This allowed significant upgrading of the club house and changing rooms, as well as additional kit. 2014 saw the club win the West Sussex Premier Division, 2015 they picked up the Sussex County Division 3 Cup which had previously been won in 1985 and 2010. 2016 saw the Bosham pick up the Southern Combination Div 2 League Cup. They repeated this win again in 2019. The biggest highlight however was in 2017 when the club won the Southern Combination League 2 title. This was just reward for the club and their investment in youth players. During this period the club successfully applied for funding from Sport England, enabling the club to modernise their facilities and increase participation with new youth sides planned for 2014/15. In February 2016, Bosham gained a further grant from West Sussex County Council's 'Big Society Fund' in the sum of £10,400 to improve club facilities and infrastructure and assist with longer-term sustainability and youth participation objectives. COVID curtailed the 2021 season and the following season was one of transition. Several players from the club’s youth teams made their senior debuts and the development of these players helped secure a 5th place league finish the following season. Two good cup runs with significant number of U21’s in the matchday squad helped the club reach a Southern Combination Cup semifinal and a county cup quarter final. This experience will help the club moving forward.

A WARM WELCOME TODAY TO GERRY DONCASTER

Today for our first home game of the 2024/25 season, we welcome Geraldine (‘Gerry’) Doncaster to the ‘Doncaster Lounge’, the clubhouse that was named after her and late husband Richard (‘Dick’) in recognition of the more than 30 years of service Dick and Gerry have given the club. Gerry and Dick were instrumental in preserving the club through it’s most difficult period, with Gerry in the role of Treasurer. Under the Doncaster's the club, as well as achieving a substantial grant to provide the lovely clubhouse we now have, achieved the FA Charter Standard Award in the 2013/14 season, formal recognition that Bosham FC provide a well run, sustainable, organised, and safe environment in which to play football. Welcome back to Walton Lane Gerry. It’s our privilege to have you here
