May 24, 2024 Friday INDIA THIS WEEK “Shocking results will come on June 4,” says Congress leader Jitendra Singh Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], May 20 (ANI): All India Congress Committee (AICC) in charge of Madhya Pradesh for Lok Sabha elections, Jitendra Singh, on Monday claimed that there is an undercurrent going in the country and the shocking result would come on June 4 in favour of the Congress. Singh and state Congress chief Jitu Patwari held a review meeting with all its party candidates for the general elections 2024 in the state at the Congress office in Bhopal on Monday. After the meeting, Congress leader Singh addressed a press conference. “Today, a review meeting with all our candidates for Lok Sabha election 2024 was organised here which lasted for around 3 hours in which the candidates shared their experience of the elections. During the meeting, it came to light that the way the state government and the central government misused the government machinery, and administration and worked as workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The people of Madhya Pradesh saw how the BJP lowered the standards of elections, misused social media, caste and religion to win the election,” AICC in-charge said after the meeting. Claiming that the real face of the BJP was exposed in front of the public, he said the Congress would perform well in the state and the country. “The public has seen the real face of BJP not only in Madhya Pradesh but also in the entire country. I have full hope that the Congress Party is going to perform very well in Madhya Pradesh as well as in the entire country. I would like to say that the Congress Party contested the elections very strongly under these difficult circumstances. Different results will appear in Madhya Pradesh as well as in the entire country. There is an undercurrent going on and shocking results will come on June 4,” the Congress leader said. He further added that another important decision was taken in the review meeting that immediately after the results would be declared on June 4, the Congress Party would start preparations for the assembly and panchayat polls. Apart from this, the Congress will start a ‘Manthan’ from June 15 for around 1.5 months in which senior leaders of the party will meet the workers up to the booth level, discuss with them and take suggestions to strengthen the organisation, he added. On the other hand, addressing the press conference, Congress chief Jitu Patwari slammed the state BJP government, stating 160 days have been passed for the Mohan Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge pay homage to former PM Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary New Delhi [India], May 21 (ANI): Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party MP Rahul Gandhi paid homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 33rd death anniversary at Veer Bhumi in Delhi on Tuesday morning. Madhya Pradesh has become number one in crime against women in the country in these 160 days and corruption has become synonymous with the current state government, he claimed. The Lok Sabha poll in Madhya Pradesh was conducted in four phases. The first phase of polling was held on April 19, the second phase took place on April 26, the third phase on May 7 and the fourth phase of polling concluded on May 13. (ANI) New Delhi [India], May 22 (ANI): Offering little respite to people reeling under a savage and searing summer wave across the vast swathes of the country’s northern belt, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted heatwave to severe heatwave conditions to prevail over parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana-ChandigarhDelhi, and West Uttar Pradesh as it issued a ‘red alert’ for the states over the next five days. The Met Department said maximum daytime temperatures in several districts of these states may breach the 47°C-mark. Speaking to ANI on Tuesday, senior IMD scientist Naresh Kumar said, “Temperatures are currently above normal across North West India and we had issued a red alert for the region over the past 2-3 days. With regard to a state-wise forecast, we have issued a red alert in Rajasthan for the next five days. The maximum temperature is likely to inch further up from 45°C and settle at 47°C.” “In Punjab and Haryana, maximum temperatures have registered a marginal drop due to a prevailing western disturbance but they will increase gradually hereafter by 2 to 3 degrees. we have already issued a ‘red alert’ for these two states. In neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, we have issued a red alert for the next five days and an orange alert for northern parts of Madhya Pradesh,” Kumar told ANI. However, while the North bakes under an unrelenting summer sun, a measure of respite is likely down South, as the senior IMD scientist added that heavy to very heavy rains, up to 12 cm, are likely in Tamil Nadu and Kerala over the next 2-3 days. With the IMD coming out with a ‘red alert’ for the national capital and other parts of North India, health experts warned people against stepping outdoors, especially between 11 am and 4 pm, as it could lead to a downturn in their health. Dr Neeraj Nishchal, professor at the Department of Medicine in AIIMS, Delhi, said the health issues caused by the rising temperatures could range from rashes, heat exhaustion and dehydration to heat strokes. Heat Wave conditions can also result in physiological strain, often proving fatal. To minimise the impact of the heat wave and prevent serious ailments, doctors have advised people against going outdoors to the extent possible, and, if necessary, under adequate protection; especially between noon and 3 pm; take sufficient fluids as often as possible, even if one is not thirsty; and wear lightweight, lightcoloured, loose, and porous cotton clothes. Four-year-old girl drowns in Tripura’s Udaipur Udaipur (Tripura) [India], May 21 (ANI): A four-year-old girl drowned in Tripura‘s Udaipur on Tuesday afternoon. The girl has been identified as Ananya Karmakar, who was a resident of the Khilpara Taltala area of Udaipur. The incident occurred when Ananya accompanied her grandmother to a neighbouring house to partake in puja prasad. Amidst the afternoon activities, the little girl wandered off and tragically fell into a nearby pond. After an extensive search by the family and neighbours, Ananya’s lifeless body was recovered from the water. The discovery of the child’s body prompted immediate panic and grief among her family and the residents. The Udaipur fire department was quickly informed, and Ananya was rushed to Gomti District Hospital. Unfortunately, despite their swift actions, doctors at the hospital declared her dead upon arrival. This event has cast a shadow of grief over the entire Udaipur sub-division, sparking a wave of sorrow and public outcry. The community has been devastated by the loss of such a young life and the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident. Local authorities and community leaders have expressed their condolences to the Karmakar family. The incident underscores the need for increased vigilance and safety measures around water bodies, especially in areas frequented by young children. (ANI) FRIDAY MAY 24, 2024 9 SALE ENDS MAY 31-2024 Gift of life: Organ donation gives life to 8, vision to 4 in Delhi By Shalini Bhardwaj New Delhi [India], May 21 (ANI): Organ donation by two patients aged 42 and 27 gave a new lease of life to eight people and vision to four at AIIMS Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Center (JPNATC ), Delhi. “It was for the first time that 2 organ donations happened together and retrieval of organs by transplant teams from AIIMS and other parts of the city worked closely to make it happen,” said JPNATC Chief Dr Kamran Farooque. “Two routine operation theatres were stopped today to allow for retrievals to happen promptly. The organ procurement team of the trauma centre worked closely with transplant coordinators of ORBO, NOTTO and retrieval teams to make it happen,” the hospital stated in a release. AIIMS received one heart, one liver, three kidneys and four corneas. ILBS received one liver and one kidney. Army RR received one heart. A team from KIMS Hyderabad and CIMS Ahmedabad, who were allotted lungs, found it unsuitable for transplant during retrieval process and inspection. Hence, the lungs were not utilised by both patients. According to NOTTO (National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization), once a patient is declared brain dead, the hospital can counsel the family for organ donation. NOTTO protocol and guidelines stipulate that the treating hospital provide all details and obtain necessary clearances for a possible organ donation. In this case, the No Objection Certificate in a MedicoLegal Case (NOC-MLC) was obtained and a request for a green corridor was made. It is estimated that almost 5 lakh Indians face organ failure every year and only 2-3 per cent receive a life-saving transplant. As per data available with NOTTO, in 2022, 11 cadaver donations have been made with the successful retrieval of 30 organs in Delhi. Every year, hundreds of people die in India, waiting for an organ transplant. Due to a lack of awareness and misconceptions, there is a shortage of organ donors, and with each passing year, the gap between the number of organs donated and the number of people waiting for transplants is growing wider. Timely cadaveric organ donation can save many lives and more people would come forward and pledge their organs if they receive more information and are educated on the benefits of organ donation.
