OUR PLATE

Lunch fare. We arrived at the Rosa Mexicano restaurant and were promptly led to an inside table which we opted for instead of being outside. Tiara was our waitress and she moved us to another table that was not quite as sticky due to the lamination that was has being done on the tables. My wife and I started, of course, with an order of freshly made guac. We munched on chips and red salsa until the appetizer arrived. We were pleasantly surprised with the presentation. Raw carrots sticks, green peppers, and jicama dressed the tradition bowl of guacamole. Not ones for too spicy a meal, we ordered the mildly seasoned guac. A new food to me, the Jicama served with their guacamole has consistency of a firm wine sap Apple. Thoroughly enjoyed this new veggie twist on this starter. Our before dinner drinks were 2 different margaritas. The Cadillac Margarita is made with orange liqueur has more of a bite than the regular Patron margarita which is very good. The wife and I doubled up on the Cadillac Margaritas with the orange liqueur. the tequila used was Corralejo. These were suggested by our waitress. For our entrees, I had the Torta de salmon which is on the brioche bun, with wilted spinach and piloncillo tomatoes, and chipotle aioli and salmon and epazote fries. My wife had the rajas quesadilla and added shrimp. Delicious. The ambiance was fittingly casual/upscale although the staff seemed a bit serious but I enjoyed the colorful decor and music. The fare was moderately priced for the DC Natural Harbor area.

Opinion/Editorial

Insurrection Insurrection...why not treason? The events of January 6th sent a chill through true Americans who believe in the Constitution, the Bill for Rights and democracy, and the fragility of those living, breathing theories. Unfortunately, Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is on life-support for about 45% of the country. Patriots (Persons Advocating Treason, Racism, Illegally Operating Trumps Schtick) stormed the Capitol and irrevocalbly brought to light to the world the one thing most POC (people of color) have always thought; White skin entitles Anglos to get away with …...murder. But why should anyone be surprised or shocked that the political party of Lincoln wants to just put this “peaceful protest” and continue with the job of further dismantling the democratic foundation of this country and cloak it in the emperor’s new clothes of Fascist Rule by those in the minority. But America has always been this paradox and hyperbole of itself, starting with the “proud and bold revolutionary leaders in the Boston colony, who proudly donned the garb of indigenous people to storm a boat and throw England’s tea in the harbor. Gutsy and cowardly at the same time. Working backward, historians have tried to paint the Civil War as the War of Northern Aggression, the basis being a struggle of States’ Rights and not really to do with the abolition of slavery in the Southern United States that ceded from the Union. The duplicitous irony is that slavery in the Union States would remain intact. Also, the gift from France that sits as possibly the biggest attraction in the New York City, Liberty Enlighting the World, was to celebrate and acknowledge the American Revolution and the birth of a nation. Whitewash again. France presented the United States with the Lady with the lamp as a gift, saluting the decision to end slavery in the new country. The true reason was too psychologically damaging to those in power. Fast forward to January 6th, the need to remain in power has muted those who swore to uphold the rule of law, and those who are not muted, are offering “alternate truths” as to what occurred in the storming of the US Capitol during the certification of the election of 2020. Also, localities across the nation are seeking to suppress the vote. Welcome, again, to Amerikkka.
