A READING PLAN designed to grow DEPTH & excitement for God & His Word 4 Gospels 3 months


Leading up to Christmas – during ADVENT we did “The Journey of His arrival”

This series travels from the birth of Christ to His death on Good Friday and resurrection on Easter Sunday. • Taking all of 4 Gospels and chronologically (for the most part) walking through them together • Each Sunday morning we’ll take 1 of the passages from that week’s readings and dig into it in a deeper way The 12th week is PALM Sunday – March 24 The 13th week is EASTER Sunday – March 31 THE 4 Gospels in 3 months… MATTHEW: AUTHOR: Matthew An eyewitness account – one of the 12 & former tax collector MARK: AUTHOR: Mark, a companion or Peter – a secondhand account DATE: ~65-70 AD DATE: ~50 AD * Written specifically for a Jewish audience. He goes to great lengths to connect Jesus to Messianic prophecy of the OT. * Heavy emphasis on: Prophecy & Sermons Could have been written 1st but the early Church said the Gospels with genealogies were the 1st written. * Peter’s words were written down by Mark specifically for the benefit of a Roman audience, according to Clement of Alexandria. * Heavy emphasis on: Miracles * Some refer to Mark as the Readers Digest version of Matthew LUKE: AUTHOR: Luke, a doctor & a companion of Paul, a Gentile convert (Col. 4:1014) – a secondhand account. JOHN: AUTHOR: John An eyewitness account – one of the 12 & former fisherman DATE: ~85-90 AD DATE: ~60 AD Could have been written pre-70 AD. * Written specifically for a Greek audience. * John’s Gospel is different than all the others and is written for ALL. * Heavy emphasis on: Parables * Luke joined Paul at Traos (Acts 16:10), accompanied him to Jerusalem (Acts 20:5— 21:15) & Rome (Acts 27:128:15). * Luke also penned the book of Acts. * The Greek word pisteuo is used almost 100x’s. John wants his readers to know that Jesus is God, is Messiah and life is in Him (see 20:30-31) * Heavy emphasis on: Christ is God!
