In a post on social media app X, the Prime Minister posted, “Wishing everyone a Happy Diwali! May this special festival bring joy, prosperity and wonderful health to everyone’s lives.” In an earnest expression of delight, Prime Minister Modi on Saturday had acknowledged the nation’s radiant celebration of Diwali, emphasising the vivid illumination in every household attributed to the government’s public welfare schemes. Renowned celebrities and influencers across India resonated with the PM’s #VocalForLocal movement, lending their support and leveraging their social media platforms to amplify and encourage local vendors and manufacturers. Several influential figures took to social media to echo PM Modi’s initiative, promoting the idea of Vocal for Local and supporting Indian entrepreneurship. Their messages on X highlighted the essence of supporting the ‘Made in India’ Remember: movement, urging their followers to encourage and appreciate local talents and products. The Ministers commended the breadth From The Poet’s Pen INDIA THIS WEEK- September 15, 2023 The Way of Love Apostle Paul If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[b] 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. The ministers specifically welcomed the Investors Strategy Session convened in New Delhi on November 8, 2023. November 17, 2023 Friday INDIA THIS WEEK “Karnataka govt is committed to protect freedom of expression”: CM Siddaramaiah B e n g a l u r u (Karnataka) [India], November 15 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said that his government is committed to protecting the freedom of expression adding that an opportunity should be provided to citizens to hold protests in front of the Town Hall in Bengaluru. Speaking on the occasion of the book launch in honour of writer K Marulasiddappa, Siddaramaiah said, “K Marulasiddappa has a personality with good ideological commitment and humanitarian approach in life. Genuine populist movements that alert the government are vital to society. I support and welcome such protests and movements. “Government is committed to protecting freedom of expression. Will discuss providing an opportunity to protest and fight in front of the Town Hall with the Advocate General as soon as possible,” CM said. “A stagnant system full of inequality must change. This change is possible only through people’s struggles and movements. Therefore, there should be a real populist struggle and protests to warn the government, he added. K a r n a t a k a Chief Minister said that Congress always welcome the struggles made by the protestors. “It is good as it comes as a warning to society and the government, but our government is committed to the protection of freedom of expression,” the Chief Minister said. Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], November 13 (ANI): As Madhya Pradesh is set to hold Assembly polls this week, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday reminded people of the previous election results and said that the public had voted for the grand old party in 2018 assembly polls and not the BJP. Rahul Gandhi emphasised that the current Shivraj Singh government was not the choice of the people but rather a result of deceit and manipulation. Addressing a public meeting in Bhopal, Rahul Gandhi said,” You (people) did not elect BJP in the previous elections. Always remember, it was Congress that was voted to power. This government is formed by cheat and deceit This government was not yours. This government was formed by cheating in front of your eyes.” Rahul Gandhi further alleged that BJP is only working in the interests of two to three businessmen. “They (BJP) only work for two to three businessmen. They are giving airports, agriculture infrastructure, ports, and apples in Himachal to Adani. It is your money that is being given to them,” he said. Slamming BJP on the alleged viral video of Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar’s son Devendra Tomar talking about transactions worth crores, Gandhi said, “The video of Devendra Tomar, Mahakal Corridor scam, midday meal’s money, Vyapam scam, Patwari exams scam, MBBS seats are sold but not once does Narendra Modi let there be an investigation – neither CBI nor ED or IT. Narendra Tomar’s son’s video surfaces but there is no CBI, IT or ED (investigation).” “They have broken all records of corruption. They have a minister who is called Tomar. Did you see a video of his son? Whose money was he talking about? Your money. Money of the people of Madhya Pradesh.Money from your pocket. All his ministers do this,” he said. In the last 2018 assembly elections, Congress won 114 seats with a vote share of 40.89 per cent while the BJP came second and managed to win 109 seats. Its vote share was 41.02 per cent. The Congress came to power with Kamal Nath taking oath as the chief minister but Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with 22 loyalist MLAs, switched over to BJP in 2020. The BJP later formed the government with Shivraj Singh Chouhan as Chief Minister. Madhya Pradesh is set to undergo polls on November 17 and the counting of votes will take place on December 3. Voters will choose legislators from 230 Assembly constituencies. (ANI) “It was Congress, not BJP that was voted to power in MP previously”: Rahul Gandhi in Bhopal “No communal violence happened in 10 years of BRS ruling”: Telangana CM KCR Nizamabad (Telangana) [India], November 15 (ANI): Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday said that no communal violence happened in the ten years of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) governance adding that riots used to happen from time to time under the Congress tenure in the region. Addressing the election rally in Nizamabad, K Chandrashekar Rao said,” No communal violence happened in 10 years of BRS ruling. In Congress’s tenure, riots used to happen from time to time. They only gave Rs 2000 crore as a minorities budget and in the 10 years of the BRS period, we spent more than Rs 12,000 crore.” “Remember the Babri masjid issue started in Congress period and it was demolished in Congress tenure only. If you want to remain secular, be secular for your whole life not just for a period of time,” he added. Rao also alleged Congress of using people especially Muslims as vote banks and questioned Congress over Babri Masjid’s demolition. “Congress used you (people) as a vote bank. Now also Congress does drama, they say they will shut down ‘Nafrat ka Dukaan’. I want to ask; by whose hands did Babri Masjid’s destruction happen? Who made it happen? Today, they(Congress) will say nice things but if they’re secular they should stay like that forever,” KCR said. The state is set to witness a triangular contest among the BJP, BRS, and Congress. In the previous Assembly election in 2018, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), previously known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), won 88 of the 119 seats, hogging 47.4 per cent of the total vote share. The Congress came in a distant second with just 19 seats. Telangana is scheduled to go to assembly elections on November 30 and the counting of votes, along with those of four other poll-bound states, has been scheduled for December 3. At the top of their meeting, the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) ministers posed for a family photograph. Besides discussion on the two pillars, ministers from 14 countries signed an agreement on the resilient chain under the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) as they sought to forge an alliance to strengthen relations and reduce dependence on China in the post-Covid period. On Monday, other members (not including India) were unable to strike a substantial trade deal during ministerial talks, despite their common goal of promoting a rulesbased commercial order in the region where China is growing in influence. India has so far stayed away from the trade talks while keeping its options open for the future. A decision on the trade pillar, which is being closely watched in the US, will take some time as just around half of it has been negotiated. Minister Goyal also attended a raft of bilateral meetings including with Ambassador Katherine Tai, United States Trade Representative, on the sidelines of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) in San Francisco. The two leaders held talks on the IPEF and trade pillars. Goyal, who is on a four-day visit to the US, also took part in the Investors Round Table organised in collaboration with the USIndia Strategic Partnership Forum and Indiaspora. The event was attended by venture capitalists and entrepreneurs from a wide spectrum of industries in the US, including energy, manufacturing, logistics, and technology, among others. In an interactive session held in San Francisco as part of the first leg of the tour in the US, the Minister held wideranging discussions with the participants and highlighted the various steps taken by the government of India to improve the ease of doing business. “Highlighted how the country offers promising opportunities for investors, thanks to the unique combination of our demographic dividend, manufacturing capabilities & conducive business environment,” Goyal posted on X, asserting India as an attractive investment destination for the world. During the US visit till November 16, the Commerce and Industry Minister will participate in the third in-person IPEF Ministerial meeting and the engagements of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). India has been invited to the 30th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting 2023 as a ‘Guest Economy’. Goyal arrived in San Francisco on November 13. Kicking off the official tour, the Commerce and Industry Minister visited the Tesla Factory Unit in Fremont and interacted with the senior executives of the Tesla group. Just shortly after his arrival in the US, Goyal met with Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong. The two leaders discussed ways to accelerate cooperation across sectors to further deepen the economic partnership between India and Singapore. Taking to X, Goyal stated, “Met H.E.
