This came a day after several opposition leaders of different political parties alleged that their Apple devices have been the victims of alleged hacking. The leaders shared the purported screenshots of the warning received on their Apple devices. The TMC MP in her letter to Lok Sabha Speaker said that the illegal surveillance by the government using software available only to state actors is the worst attack on citizens’ fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution. “It is with great dismay that I write to inform you of a message that I and various other Members of the Lok Sabha (all belonging to Opposition parties) received from Apple on our mobile and email devices informing us that we were ‘being targeted by state-sponsored attackers’ who were attempting to remotely compromise our devices and access our data, communications, and even the camera and microphone,” she said in the letter. “This threat is doubly shocking in light of the Pegasus software (sold only to governments) that was used to compromise the devices of various members of the Opposition, dissenting journalists and members of civil society during 2019-2021. Honourable Shri Abhishek Banerjee, MP, National General Secretary of the All Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], November 1 (ANI): Former Andhra Pradesh CM and TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday morning reached his residence in Vijayawada a day after he was granted interim bail in a skill development case. He was given a warm welcome by his party supporters who had gathered outside his residence. Naidu walked out of Rajahmundry jail on Tuesday after Andhra Pradesh High Court granted him bail in the alleged skill development case. After walking out of the India Trinamool Congress, the party I represent in Lok Sabha, was one of the targets. In spite of the Opposition raising this issue in the House, no debate was allowed and no conclusive report has been filed by any agency,” it added. Moitra alleged that the past few years have seen the targeted attacks on the democratic freedoms of Members of the Opposition and voices of dissent. “These include misuse of central agencies and using majoritarian force to repeal, amend and create laws empowering the government to muzzle dissent. Numerous cases of planting fabricated evidence on communication devices have come to light and innocent citizens have been framed to meet political ends,” she said. “You, sir, are central cell, Chandrababu Naidu said, “When I was in trouble, you all came on the roads and prayed for me. I will never forget the affection shown to me, not only in Andhra Pradesh but also in Telangana and across the world.” “In my 45 years of career, I haven’t committed any mistakes and will not let anyone do. All the political parties have supported me, all thanks to them,” he added. Chandrababu Naidu was under 53 days of judicial custody. The interim bail has been granted for four weeks. The TDP said that the ruling YSRCP the proverbial keeper of the faith, the guardian of the Lok Sabha and the ultimate parent to each of its Members. It is in this capacity that I ask you to immediately provide us the protection required for us to continue doing our duties as a vibrant Opposition which is to question and hold to account the ruling dispensation. I trust you will treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves and seek, accountability from the concerned authorities into this flagrant breach of law, Constitutional freedoms, and our rights as the efforts by the ruling YSRCP to constantly put N Chandrababu Naidu under scrutiny and label him as a criminal, they finally failed today. This shows how the YSRCP is afraid, scared, intimated and terrified of the TDP,” the party said. Chandrababu Naidu was granted bail due to health reasons. He has been ordered to surrender on November 24. The court will hear arguments on the main bail petition on November 10. The TDP supremo has been ordered to not participate in any other programme except his medical check-ups at the hospital. The High Court also ordered Naidu to not participate in media and political activities. The former Andhra Pradesh chief minister was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on September 9 in connection with the multi-crore skill development scam case, leading to political turmoil Members of Parliament,” she added further. Meanwhile, Apple on Tuesday, officially announced that it does not attribute the threat notifications to any specific state-sponsored attacker. “State-sponsored attackers are very wellfunded and sophisticated, and their attacks evolve over time. Detecting such attacks relies on threat intelligence signals that are often imperfect and incomplete. It’s possible that some Apple threat notifications may be false alarms, or that some attacks are not detected,” Apple said in a statement. Besides, the skill development case, Naidu has been named as an accused in two other graft cases– the Fibernet scam case, and the Inner Ring Road scam case. Meanwhile, the Andhra CID registered another case against Naidu in connection with allegations of illegal licencing of liquor companies by the previous government. The petitioner advocate, G Devarajegowda, had filed a plea challenging the election of JDS candidate HD Revanna to the Karnataka Assembly. The High Court heard the election dispute petition filed by Devarajegowda today and again ordered the execution of the summons. The petitioner has demanded the disqualification of HD Revanna. G Devarajegowda had filed an election dispute petition that Revanna’s supporters should be disqualified from the seat of MLA who has won by various illegalities, including the allegation that Revanna’s supporters have wooed the voters by distributing money to the voters. A political row has erupted over the issue with the opposition members seeking a probe and the government too expressing its desire to get to the bottom of the matter. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram, a member of the panel, said he will raise the issue in the next meeting of the panel. “This is a matter of grave concern. We will seek a discussion,” Karti Chidambaram told ANI. The government has asked Apple to join investigations. In a series of posts on X, Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology, said the government is concerned by the statements we have seen in media from some MPs as well as others about a notification received by them from Apple. “The notification received by them as per media reports mentions about ‘state-sponsored attacks’ on their devices. However much of information by Apple on this issue seems vague and non-specific in nature. Apple states these notifications maybe based on information which is ‘incomplete or imperfect’. It also states that some Apple threat notifications maybe false alarms or some attacks are not detected,” he said. The minister said Apple has also claimed that Apple IDs are securely encrypted on devices, making it extremely difficult to access or identify them without the user’s explicit permission. “This encryption safeguards the user’s Apple ID and ensures that it remains private and protected. Instead of sermonising the opposition about it’s role, your government must come clean. In your entire address, just like in 2021, you did not deny using spyware on opposition leaders. Your reluctance to issue a categorical denial itself shows you have a lot to hide in this matter. Your call to Apple to join an investigation is even more laughable. How can the criminal himself be the prosecutor?” Venugopal said on X. Yechury wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the Apple alert and said any such attack “constitutes a gross violation of the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution of India to all its citizens”. “A surveillance state is the antithesis of democracy,” he said. From KG (kindergarten) to PG (post-graduation), free education will be provided in government institutions to students. They will not have to pay a single penny,” Rahul Gandhi said at a public rally in poll-bound Chhattisgarh. He also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of having reneged on his election promises and alleged that the central government works only for businessman Gautam Adani. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi made several promises during the elections but he has yet to fulfil any of them,” Rahul Gandhi said at a public rally in poll-bound Chhattisgarh. “I am not here to make false promises. What we say, we do it. We made the promise of a loan waiver for farmers, but the BJP claimed the promise was impossible to fulfil. They (BJP) only waive off the loan of Adani. After we came to power in Chhattisgarh, the first decision we took was to waive off the loans of the farmers,” the Congress leader said. Rahul Gandhi said that if the Congress comes to power again in the state, the government will waive off farmers’ loans again. “Last elections we made a promise of Rs 2,500 per quintal for paddy and we fulfilled it,” he said. He also alleged that the BJP wants to “snatch” the lands of tribal people. “We call you (tribals) Adivasi while BJP calls you Vanvasis. The word Adivasi implies that the land belongs to you people. Schemes introduced by the Congress-led government benefit people and contrary to this, BJP‘s moves are to benefit Adani. First right on forest, water and land belong to Adivasi, said Gandhi, alleging that they (BJP) wanted to snatch your land, water and forest and hand it over to Adani. The Congress MP also said that his party wanted people to have the opportunity to learn Hindi along with the local language and English. “We wanted everyone to learn Hindi along with Chhattisgarhi as well as English, but BJP wanted people to learn only Hindi. BJP does not want you to learn English because they don’t want you to become doctors, and engineers and to make progress in life,” Rahul Gandhi said. Earlier in the New Delhi, October 31 (ANI): Multiple political leaders including Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and TMC MP Mahua Moitra have alleged that their Apple devices have been the victim of alleged hacking. FRIDAY NOVEMBER 3, 2023 9 AP Govt making efforts to supply water to benefit farmers: Officials Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], October 29 (ANI): The Andhra Pradesh Government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has effectively managed the water distribution despite deficit rainfall to benefit the farmers in tail-end areas, but few media publications have been throwing mud against the government by spreading false narratives, a release from the Chief Minister’s Office said. There are over 13.08 lakh acres of Ayakattu (land depends on canal irrigation) under the Prakasam Barrage. Water was released on July 7 for Kharif 2023-2024 and Paddy planting has been completed in 9.91 lakh acres, it added. “So far 85.81 TMC of water has been supplied to Ayakattu from Prakasam Barrage. Due to the lack of flow in the Krishna River, water is being taken from the Pattiseema lifting scheme and Pulichintala project,” the release stated. According to the Water Resources Department, “35.93 TMC water from the Pulichintala project, 29.88 TMC water from the Pattiseema scheme, and the remaining 20 TMC water is supplied from inflows to Krishna River from Munneru, Paleru, Keesara etc. This year due to adverse weather conditions, the Krishna River basin has received low rainfall. As a result, there is not enough water in the Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar reservoirs to release for the Krishna delta region. The Chief Minister has reviewed the situation with the senior officials of the department from time to time and prepared a contingency plan.” The statement claimed that the government has made a necessary plan to protect the crops planted by the farmers and accordingly, the water in the Pulichintala project and Pattiseema has been used very carefully in a balanced manner. It said that data from the Water Resources Department reflect that the Pulichintala project had 38 TMC water storage at the beginning of this season. “About 18 TMCs of water were released for the crops of Krishna Delta till Godavari and the farmers were given water for the crops. As the water reserves in Pulichintala were decreasing, the Pattiseema pumps were switched on and water was supplied to the Krishna delta through the Prakasam barrage from July 21,” it said. The department noted that it was a farsighted plan implemented by the government headed by Chief Minister Jagan, so they were able to store 19 TMCs of water in Pulichinthala through the Musi River during the rains in Telangana. “If the water had not been previously harnessed from the Pulichintala project, we would have encountered a flood-like situation due to the inflow of water from the Musi River”. “Not only in the Krishna basin but also in the Ayakattu region, the rainfall has been very low this year. The months of August and October recorded less rainfall which is rare. Even in this dire situation where nature is not cooperating, the government has taken planned measures to protect the interests of the farmers and has introduced all the necessary measures to prevent the crop from drying up i.e. Warbandi system (on & off)”. As per the statement, the Warbandi system is also being implemented to keep the crops from drying up given monsoon conditions. “Due to the system, there will be no drain flow in designated areas for a week. In such situations, especially at the end of the canal, farmers use oil engines to sweep away the standing water and save the crops. The Water Resources Department is making all efforts to provide water with the highest priority to the tail-end area where it is needed” Regarding the Krishna Eastern Delta, the department noted that there is a registered area of 7,36,953 acres out of which 5,30,136 acres are cultivated. So far 52.69 TMC of water has been supplied from Prakasam Barrage. Water is being supplied to Ayakattu by implementing the Warabandi system, as per the statement. It added that 800 cusecs to 1200 cusecs of water were supplied to the Eluru canal, and currently 1000 cusecs of water are being supplied. “There is no condition of crop drying in Ayakattu. All efforts are being made to provide water to every acre of Ayakattu”. It added that regular reviews are being conducted by introducing a weekday policy to prevent crops from drying up In the presence of water resources department officials and public representatives.
