Susana Felicidad Tambasacan is a 23-year-old mixed-media artist from General Santos City, Philippines. With the influence of her immediate family, she found her interest in art at a very young age, and later on, became passionate about it. Her experiences and deep emotions inspired her to create her pieces through abstract realism—two contradictory art movements that showcase the beauty of abstract art without compromising recognizable images. Some of her works were featured in notable local and international art scenes, including the ASEAN Youth Forum Yuwana Zine 5th Edition, Mindanao Art Fair 2021, Tam-Awan International Arts Festival, Daloy Likha Magazine (March 2022 Edition), Luna Galleria's Transmission International Art Exhibit, and Mindanao March 2023. She was awarded the Outstanding Mentee award in the first Art Show Philippines Art Mentoring Program in 2021. Her paintings were sold locally and internationally, and some of those were owned by collectors and families from the USA, Canada, and Japan. ARTIST STATEMENT I believe that someone in the cosmos is familiar with the thoughts and experiences I had, both good and negative; therefore, I am only a fragment of the whole. I create my pieces to connect with others and to express peace, healing, and love— to see the beautiful side of life, to feel hope, and to feel God's love. The intangibility of memories and the vagueness of emotions can still be felt and envisioned. Through abstract realism, I express my art using brilliant colors and free-hand "controlled accident" strokes to express abstract in my artwork without sacrificing the clarity of thoughts and imagery.
