We've logged 55 consecutive days of 100+ F degree temps in Texas and at least 8 weeks without a significant drop of water. So. Things are going well down here. I used to have a lawn, and I remember I enjoyed it. I'm thinking of transitioning our offices to work on the Fidel Castro model : work from sundown to sunup and sleep inside a cool dark room with fans during the summer days. He might have been onto something - the one thing he might have gotten right. This summer will forever be marked as the summer where we cared for my father-in-law - now in hospice with brain cancer. It's been tough. It's been fast; he's suffered a very steep decline. Despite all that, he has held onto the LORD; and the family has continued in prayers and willful thanksgiving. Worshipping in hardship requires an unusual grace, but God has supplied that and more. The big summer trip went off without a glitch. We latched onto a new Viceroy-community owned 5x10 cargo trailer and dropped both boys off at college in Idaho. We enjoyed tons of hiking in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah and in Boulder, Colorado. We visited great old friends and attended Refuge Church in Ogden, UT. We enjoyed evening walks where the temps hit high 60's. Glorious -truly, a respite from Texas. Even so, I could hear the Lone Star state whistling at me from great distance, knowing I would one day return. I can't quit Texas; she's been too good to me. After one month on the road, I gotta say: we missed being near our people and are happy to return to put hands on all the old plows. FOUNDATIONS. All of us, as men who govern our hearts, households, business operations, faith communities, and work to see our cities prosper must always be evaluating what our lives are built upon. When the King walked the earth he spoke of households built upon the Rock (Himself, His Kingdom) or the sands. He said those who build upon the sand will look secure until a storm hits and everything topples. He didn’t issue a warning about building in the tides because….obviously. And yet -here we are. IF you are not daily spending significant time walking about and ratcheting down/tightening your bolts that come loose during the shaking and trembling of this present age - you better start! There is no chance you will govern anything well without this foundation. Don’t even try. THE VICEROY PROJECT
PASSAGE Our King - when He was walking the earth in bodily formmade a magisterial decree announcing His reign and outlining the new order He brought to the earth. He ended His proclamation (often called 'the Sermon on the Mount') by saying this: MATTHEW 7 25 'Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall. 28 And so it was, when the King had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Notice verse 28 doesn't read like this: ’And lo, knuckleheads, one really should not build one's house in the waters of the deep, for calamity surely awaits you!'

THE PEOPLE PLOT A VAIN THING? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.” [ The big time power bosses conspire with one another against God and His people; they announce, ‘we can’t endure being bound together in community with this God and His people’] He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: “Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.” [God doesn’t care - instead, He mocks them. Then at some point, God is going to get angry and take it out on the wicked. God also has a bid declaration; ‘Regardless of your rant - the King I have chosen sits on My temple mount, Zion.
