Neeraj recorded his best throw of 88.17 m in his second attempt and managed to keep his lead intact till the very end. Nadeem, the Commonwealth Games champion with 87.82 m got a silver medal. Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch secured the bronze with the best throw of 86.67 m. Kishore Jena (best of 84.77 m) finished fifth while DP Manu (best of 84.14 m) finished sixth. Now, India has medals of all colours at the World Championships. This is Neeraj’s second medal at the World Championships after he secured a silver last year. Before his two medals, India’s last medalist was Anju Bobby George back in the 2003 World Championships, getting a bronze for the women’s long jump. In the first round of attempts, Finland’s Oliver Helander took the lead with a throw of 83.38 m. Neeraj Chopra’s first throw was a foul, giving him a start that he did not want. The first throws of Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], August 28 (ANI): Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Monday announced that it will launch the AdityaL1 Solar Mission, the first space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun on September 2, 2023. The launch of the solar mission will take place on September 2, 2023, at 11:50 am from Sriharikota. Taking to X (former Twitter), ISRO said, “The launch of Aditya-L1, the first space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun, is scheduled for September 2, 2023, at 11:50 Hrs IST from Sriharikota. Citizens are invited to witness the launch from the Launch View Gallery at Sriharikota by registering here: https://lvg.shar.gov. in/VSCREGISTRATION/ index.jsp. Commencement of registration will be announced there.” Aditya L1 shall be the first spacebased Indian mission to study the Sun. The spacecraft shall be placed in a halo orbit around the Lagrange point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system, which is about 1.5 million km from the Earth. A satellite placed in the halo orbit around the L1 point has the major advantage of continuously viewing the Sun without any occultation/eclipses. This will provide a greater advantage in observing solar activities and their effect on space weather in realtime. The spacecraft carries seven payloads to observe the photosphere, Kishore Jena and DP Manu were 75.70 m and 78.44 respectively. But it was not enough to give them a topthree spot. At the end of the first round of attempts, Helander led the field. In the second round of attempts, Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch took the lead with a throw of 84.18 m. However, Neeraj overcame the nerves of a bad start, outdoing Jakub with a monstrous 88.17 m throw to take the lead. Manu’s second attempt was a foul. Jena’s second throw was a solid 82.82 m and took him to the fifth spot. Neeraj led with a massive 88.17 m after the second round of attempts. The third round of attempts started and Neeraj recorded a throw of 86.32 m, the second-best in the competition so far. He managed to maintain his lead. However, with a massive throw of 87.82 m, Pakistan’s Commonwealth Games champion Arshad Nadeem jumped to the number two spot. Jena’s fourth attempt was 80.19 m and kept him at the seventh spot at the start of fourth round of attempts. Manu’s fourth attempt was a foul, keeping him at the fifth spot. Neeraj recorded the fourth throw of 84.64 m, still in the lead. However, Nadeem was still pretty close to him, throwing 87.15 m in the fourth attempt and having the second-best throw overall from earlier. Neeraj led the field at the end of the fourth round of attempts. Jena’s fifth attempt was 84.77 m, taking him to fourth spot, one away from a bronze. Nadeem’s fifth throw was a foul, delivering a blow to his hopes of a first spot. Neeraj’s fifth throw was 87.73 m and kept him in the lead. However, it was just inches away from Nadeem’s second-best throw of 87.82 m from earlier. Manu recorded 83.48 m and Jena recorded 84.77 in their fifth attempts. Jena was fifth while Manu at sixth! Neeraj still led the field. In the final round of attempts, Manu was still at sixth with an 84.14 m throw in the final attempt. Jena committed a foul and stayed at fifth. Nadeem’s final throw was 81.86 m and failed to overcome Neeraj’s 88.17 m in his final attempt!. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh. 22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake. 23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. 24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation. 25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep. 26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets. 27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, nal. However, things didn’t materialise in the manner he hoped for and Neeraj recorded his best throw of 88.17 m in his second attempt managing to keep his lead intact till the very end to clinch the gold. Arshad Nadeem, the Commonwealth Games champion with 87.82 m bagged a silver medal while Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch secured the bronze with a best throw of 86.67 m. Neeraj who looked a bit disappointed told reporters in the post-match conference, “I wanted to throw more than 90m tonight. But it needs all parts of the puzzle to be there. I couldn’t put it all together this evening. Maybe next time.” Although the 25year-old took the lead in the second round which remained untouched throughout the final, he still yearned to break his own mark and take it further in his final throw. “After the second round, I was thinking of pushing myself because I knew that I could get a better throw. But there is a lot of pressure on technique and speed. We have to push a lot in the qualifying round. There was only a single day for recovery so it was also a big factor. I go forward with the motivation of pushing myself till the last throw,” Neeraj said. The Tokyo Olympic gold medallist wasn’t the only Indian competing in the final, Kishore Jena (best of 84.77 m) and DP Manu (best of 84.14 m) were also in the mix and finished fifth and sixth respectively. This was Neeraj’s second medal at the World Championships after he secured a silver in 2022. Previously, Anju Bobby George had bagged the bronze for the country in the 2003 World Championships for the women’s long jump. He has also bagged gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and the Asian Games 2018. Neeraj will be back on the field in the Asian Games, Hangzhou which is scheduled from September 23 to October 8. This competition will mark the final major competition of this year for the 25-yearold javelin thrower. (ANI) INDIA THIS WEEK Address: P.O. Speaking to ANI o+n the Aditya L-1 Mission by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Head of Department Astronomy, Osmania University Shanti Priya said that India’s Aditya-L1 satellite (first space-based Indian observatory) mission will be a turning point in the study of the Sun. “Sun is the most mysterious object we know. We are all dependent directly or indirectly on the Sun. Mission to Sun is the most challenging thing. India is now in the race of space missions, and this mission will be a turning point in the study of the Sun,” said Shanti Priya. “With this mission we are expecting we would get more insights into the structure and energy of the Sun,” she said. ISRO Chief S Somanath on August 26 said that the country’s maiden solar mission Aditya-L1 is ready and will be launched in the first week of September. “Aditya L1 satellite is ready. It has reached Sriharikota and is connected to PSLV. The next aim of ISRO and the country is its launch. The launch will be in the first week of September. The date will be announced within two days,” ISRO chief said. “After the launch, it will go to an elliptical orbit and from that it will travel to the L1 point which will almost take 120 days,” he added. Aditya-L1 would be the first space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun.Aditya-L1, named after the Sun’s core, aims to provide unprecedented insights into the Sun’s behaviour by placing itself in a halo orbit around the Lagrange point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system, approximately 1.5 million kilometres from Earth. This strategic location will enable Aditya-L1 to continuously observe the Sun without being hindered by eclipses or occultation, allowing scientists to study solar activities and their impact on space weather in real time. The spacecraft is equipped with seven advanced payloads designed to scrutinize various layers of the Sun, from the photosphere and chromosphere to the outermost layer, the corona. One of the most exciting aspects of AdityaL1’s mission is its ability to directly view the Sun from its unique vantage point at L1. The combined observations promise to unlock the mysteries behind solar dynamics and their effects on the interplanetary medium. The spacecraft’s data will help identify the sequence of processes that lead to solar eruptive events and contribute to a deeper understanding of space weather drivers. ISRO Chairman shared an update on June 28 revealing that the organisation is targeting the end of August for Aditya-L1’s launch. FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 1, 2023 9 Sale Ends 9/30/2023 UP: Mothers can now donate breastmilk under Kangaroo Mother Care Scheme in Kanpur By Gaurav Arora Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], August 27 (ANI): The Department of Pediatrics at Kanpur’s Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital has set up a Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) where lactating mothers can donate their breastmilk for infants who have no access to breastmilk. “We are going to open a Lactation Management Unit here which is also called a Breakmilk Management Bank. Here mothers can donate their milk, they do not need to dry them up. Just like we donate blood or organs, milk donation will be started in the same process. This will be a revolution for Kanpur, ” Yashwant Rao from the Department of Pediatrics at Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital said, speaking to ANI on Sunday. Speaking about the usual process which takes place when a mother loses her child after birth, Yashwant Rao said, “Usu- ally those mothers whose children expire, get their breastmilk dried up by medication. However, the Union government has made an arrangement to store mother’s milk.” The doctor said that a Lactation Management Unit will be opened at Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital which will also be called a Breakmilk Management Bank. Speaking about the process, Yashwant Rao said, “Just like we donate blood or organs, milk donation will be started in the same process. This will be a revolution for Kanpur.” Arun Arya, the Chairman of Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital Department of Pediatrics said that this facility will help in fulfilling the goal of ensuring that every last child in the country is fed breast milk. “We have the goal to provide mother’s milk to every child. This will help us to fulfil this goal,” Arun Arya said. Speaking about the significance of the unique name ‘Kangaroo’ for this facility, Arun Arya explained, “Kangaroos protect their babies in their pouch. If an infant has a low birth rate, the child has to be in contact with the mother’s breast constantly to maintain adequate temperature. This facility will ensure the same.” “It also helps in breastfeeding and weight gain as well...,” the doctor added. Speaking on the timeframe for the launch of this facility, Arun Arya said, “We are going to start in three beds now and soon a KMC ward will be started. It will take around two months.” “Earlier we used to wait till the child was stable. Now we will start KMC just after birth,” he added. (ANI)
