DEVELOPMENT Emerging Leaders High Performing Teams Are you an emerging professional ready to lead the way in your community? Emerging Leaders will help you take the first step. Through the yearlong program, you will: Your team CAN be the team you’ve always wished for. Lubbock HYPE: Helping Youth Purposefully Engage A component of all leadership programming is an assessment by David Collins of I-9 Intelligences. It is offered as a part of the program cost. Do you know a high school sophomore who wants to learn more about leadership, volunteerism, and their community? Participants receive: Lubbock HYPE - Helping Youth Purposefully Engage is an exciting eight-month program by the Volunteer Center of Lubbock designed to develop emerging young leaders from different backgrounds and school experiences. • A transformative experience focused on the development of each person in the key areas of their life and work • Clarity and renewed commitment for each participant’s current situation, role and leadership opportunity • Improved skills to optimize participant’s personal leadership style with their business or organization’s mission, strategy and culture DATE: March 7 TIME: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. LOCATION: TBA Students to be considered for the Lubbock HYPE program will: • • • • • • Be a high school junior for the 2019-2020 academic year Be in good academic standing Have the desire to be a leader on your campus and in the community Be dependable and committed Exhibit a willingness to learn Exhibit energy and enthusiasm To graduate from Lubbock HYPE, participants are required to attend every monthly all-day session from September through April in order to receive the full benefit of the leadership training offered. Applications for the 2019-2020 class will go live in March of 2019. Be sure to stay tuned to www. volunteerlubbock.org for more information. You can also visit your high school counselor for more information. ABOUT DAVID COLLINS David Collins enjoys helping people discover a sense of mission and passion in their lives and work. After climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in 1984, his sense of personal mission emerged – helping people lead more meaningful lives and be of more service to others. He founded and ran Obik for 10 years – a premier career intelligence company whose clients included the National Association of Independent Schools, PBS, a career partner to Blackboard and US News & World Report, Peterson’s Guides, Chase Manhattan’s Mentor Matching Initiative, and the Arthur Ashe Foundation. His personal assessment tool offers insights into personality attributes, intelligences, and motivators and how these converge to indicate certain roles and personal development strategies that enable one to enjoy, be good at, and really “fit into” their work. “My favorite part of HYPE was discovering new businesses and organizations I would have never known about.” -Past HYPE Student

Our Summer Series Board Basics will include conversations and resources to enhance board service. We offer consultations as a way to provide specialty training for your organization. We have services in general areas, but we are also happy to customize trainings for your needs. We can come to you, or we can host up to 35 people at our location. NONPROFIT BROWN BAG LUNCHES Our Brown Bag Lunches are opportunities for you to connect with other organizations working to address community needs. Foundations exist to give away money. This workshop gives you insight into how you can set yourself up for success and apply for those dollars. In this workshop you have the opportunity to gain valuable skills and knowledge to be more successful when the time comes to submit your proposals to funders. Learn all you need to know from an experienced grant writer. Advanced Social Media

Powerful Presentations Once you have a grasp of what each social media platform does and how to use them, this workshop teaches you how to truly involve your audience, expand your reach, and create appealing content on appropriate platforms. Nearly everyone has used or seen a PowerPoint presentation at some point in their career, but not all of those presentations have truly gotten across the message they were trying to communicate. What if you could use PowerPoint to create presentations that really stood out and could make more of an impact? In this workshop, Allison Matherly, the Coordinator of Digital Engagement for Texas Tech, will share her expertise to help you learn best practices, platforms, and techniques for more engaging social media.
