June 3, 2022 Friday INDIA THIS WEEK 486 anti-christian attacks took place in India last year, hunt is on: Pinarayi Vijayan Kochi (Kerala) [India], May 28 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday, while recalling the attacks against Christians in the country, said that last year 486 anti-christian attacks happened in India. He said this while mentioning the alleged hate speech of former MLA PC George and the BJP’s support for him. Last year, 486 anti-Christian attacks took place in many parts of the country. There are those in the Sangh Parivar who think that the same can happen in our state. But unlike other states, they know that drastic action will be taken here, said Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan in Kochi. “When action was taken against a person who was spreading communal poison here, the BJP thought that they were taking action to protect all Christians by protecting him. That person who spread communal poison has the language of the RSS and the Sangh Parivar. He has a position that undermined secularism and fertilized communalism. That is why the Sangh Parivar came forward to support the person who took a communal stand and shouted slogans for him”, added Vijayan. Kerala Police on Wednesday arrested former MLA PC George in a case registered against him for alleged hate speech. According to the Kerala CM, Christianity is one of the religious minorities hunted by the RSS and Sangh Parivar in our country. “That hunt is still going on. Not only our country but the whole world was devastated by it. We have not forgotten the burning of Graham Stains and his two children in Orissa. The world thought that this country was brutally committing violence against minorities,” added Vijayan. “In 1998, the Sangh Parivar unleashed riots against Christians in Gujarat. The BJP government that came to power followed suit. Many places of worship and school buildings were destroyed by the Bajrang Dal. In 2008, there were widespread riots in Orissa. At that time, 38 lives were taken by the people who said that they are protecting the person who is now spewing communal poison for the protection of Christians. To this day, they have no guilt about it. Moreover, more than forty women were raped there. More than 300 churches were demolished. Many were threatened and converted. The CPIM’s office was opened to the people who didn’t have any place to pray. Violence erupts in Karnataka also. The attack was carried out by Sriram Sena and Bajrang Dal. The violence continued even after the BJP came to power in 2014. In 2015, the Sangh Parivar carried out widespread violence against Christians in Delhi. Many Christian places of worship were attacked,” claimed the Kerala CM. (ANI) New Delhi [India], June 1 (ANI): Sensing the risk of horse-trading during the June 10 Rajya Sabha polls, Congress is back with the strategy to herd its MLAs in a resort in Chhattisgarh. Congress will be moving the party’s Haryana MLAs to Chhattisgarh, sources said. Rajya Sabha elections are slated to take place on June 10. According to the sources, the party has booked rooms in a resort in its ruling state Chhattisgarh from tomorrow. However, it is yet not clear when will the MLAs be shifted to the destination. “It has not been decided when they will be taken there, but in a day or two it will be done,” the sources said. The move has come in the backdrop of the disgruntled leaders after the party fielded outsiders in the Rajya Sabha polls. AICC General Secretary Ajay Maken has been fielded from Haryana. A senior leader of the state, Kuldeep Bishnoi is already upset with the party’s recent decisions. Besides this, another problem for the party has come in the form of the candidature of Kartikey Sharma whose father and father-in-law are former Congress leaders and are known to have influence in the state politics. In a bid to avoid horse-trading, the party has once again gone back to resort politics that it resorted to during the Goa elections in 2017 and Madhya Pradesh elections in 2018. June 3, 2022 Friday INDIA THIS WEEK ED summons Sonia Gandhi, Rahul in National Herald case Ram Mandir in Ayodhya will be the national temple of India: Yogi Adityanath New Delhi [India], June 1 (ANI): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday summoned Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over the National Herald case, which was closed by the investigating agency in 2015. The federal agency’s move followed the questioning of senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress Treasurer Pawan Bansal in April this year in New Delhi in connection with its money laundering probe into the National Herald case. The agency then recorded the statements of both the Congress leaders then under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The National Herald is published by Associated Journals Limited (AJL) and owned by Young Indian Pvt Limited (YIL). While Kharge is the CEO of YIL, Bansal is the Managing Director of AJL. The ED is currently investigating the shareholding pattern and financial transactions as well as role of party functionaries in the functioning of AJL and YIL. The YIL promoters include Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. BJP MP Subramanian Swamy had alleged that the Gandhis cheated and misappropriated funds, with YIL paying only Rs 50 lakh to obtain the right to recover Rs 90.25 crore that AJL owed to the Congress. He had filed a complaint with a Delhi court earlier. Following the court taking cognizance of an Income Tax Department probe against YIL on Swamy’s petition, the ED also registered a fresh case under PMLA. Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi will join the Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe into the National Herald case on June 8. ED on Wednesday summoned Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over the National Herald case, which was closed by the investigating agency in 2015. B r e i f i n g mediapersons, Congress General Secretary Randeep Surjewala said, “Started the National Herald newspaper in 1942, at that time the British tried to suppress it, today Modi govt is also doing the same and ED is being used for this. ED has given notice to our president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.” Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi said, “Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi will go to ED office on June 8.” (ANI) Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 1 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said Ram Mandir in Ayodhya will be the national temple of India. He laid the foundation stone for the construction of Ram Temple’s ‘Garbha Griha’ or the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, and placed the first carved stone. “Ram Mandir will be the national temple of India. People have been waiting for this day for a long time. Ram Mandir will be a symbol of India’s unity,” he told ANI. “The construction work of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi almost two years ago. The work is successfully proceeding and we are fortunate that the ritual of keeping the stones in the Garbhagriha has been initiated today,” added Adityanath. The Chief Minister New Delhi [India], June 1 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Wednesday slammed Bharatiya Janata Party for the arrest of Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain by ED in a money laundering case and said it was a “false, baseless case.” “The party whose national president was caught on camera taking bribe, which did a scam with the coffins of martyrs, did a scam in Rafale, they are preaching us. It’s like Gabbar Singh is giving a sermon of peace,” Singh alleged at a press conference here. The AAP MP expressed confidence that Satyendra Jain will come out of the case. He claimed that “nothing was found” in the CBI probe against Jain but ED has made the arrest as Himachal Pradesh will go to the polls this year. Jain is the AAP incharge of Himachal Pradesh. “Is the ED office running from the BJP office?” Singh asked. On May 30, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Delhi Health and Home Minister Satyendar Jain in connection with alleged hawala transactions related to a Kolkata-based company. Jain was arrested after a special ED team raided his place in Delhi. On August 25, 2017, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed an FIR against Jain in a money laundering case. The ED had registered a criminal case against the AAP leader based on this FIR in which it had been alleged that Jain could not explain the source of funds received by four companies in which he was a shareholder. Jain had reportedly floated or bought several shell companies in Delhi. He also allegedly laundered black money worth Rs 16.39 crore through 54 shell companies of three hawala operators of Kolkata. Jain allegedly owned a large number of shares in companies named Prayas, Indo, and Akinchan. However, after becoming Minister in Kejriwal’s government, all his shares were transferred to his wife in 2015, as per reports. These companies used to transfer cash payments to their Kolkata counterparts and these companies would later, under the ruse of buying shares, “route back the money” to Jain by employing legal means. The companies have reportedly laundered money to the tune of Rs 16.39 crores from 2010 to 2014 to Satyendra Jain. As per government sources, when prosecuted by the I-T Department, Jain surrendered black money in form of cash of Rs 16.39 crore under Income Disclosure Scheme (IDS) 2016 on benami names of Vaibhav Jain and Ankush Jain. In November 2019, the Home Ministry approved the prosecution of Jain in cases related to disproportionate assets and money laundering. Himachal PradeshAssembly elections are scheduled to be held later this year. (ANI) Sanjay Singh slams BJP over ED arresting Satyendra Jain, says case is fake arrived in the town early this morning to participate in the ceremony. Seers and saints from across the country were invited for the occasion. Later today, CM Yogi also inaugurated Shri Ramlala Sadan, a Dravidianstyle temple, at the site. Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath offered prayers at Hanuman Garhi temple in Ayodhya. According to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which is in charge of the construction of the temple, the sanctum sanctorum is expected to be completed by December 2023. The construction of the temple of Lord Ram in Ayodhya is going on at a fast pace. On August 5, 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Ram temple and since then the construction work of the temple is going on. The five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi (now retired) had on November 9, 2019, unanimously delivered its verdict that the land in Ayodhya where Babri Masjid once stood, belongs to Ram Lalla. The new bridge will have 100 spans of 18.3 m and one navigational span of 63 m. It will be 3.0 metres higher than the existing bridge with navigational air clearance of 22.0 metres above sea level. Talking to ANI, the General Manager of Southern Railway said, “The old Pamban bridge was commissioned on February 24, 1914. So, almost 108 years passed, and now the time has come to move forward with new technologies. The estimated cost of the new bridge is Rs 250 crore and the target is to complete it this year only.” Givinginformation about this bridge, the Divisional Engineer and Incharge of Pamban Bridge, Hridayesh Kumar said, “The existing bridge structure has a total length of 2,058 metres comprising 146 spans of steel girders. There are 145 spans of 12.20 m and one navigational span of 61.0 m. The navigational span is also known as Scherzer rolling lift span after the name of railroad engineer William Scherzer who invented it.” “The vertical clearance of only 1.5 m is available between the high tide level and the bottom of the girder resulting in the splashing of seawater on the girders. In comparison, the new bridge will have 100 spans of 18.3 m and one navigational span of 63 m. It will be 3.0 m higher than the existing bridge with navigational air clearance of 22.0m above sea level,” he further added. Mentioning the technology for the operation of the new bridge for ships movement, Kumar said, “Because of vertical lift, the full horizontal width of 63 m will be available for navigation. Also, the entire bridge including the navigational span will be designed keeping in mind the Railways plan of electrification and maintaining the speed of the trains at 80 km per hour.” “In comparison to existing manual operation and control, the new bridge will have electro-mechanical controlled systems which will be interlocked with train control systems. Due to the heavy flow of water, it is also proposed to deploy cuttingedge technologies like stainless steel reinforcement, composite sleepers, and a long-life painting system in the construction of the new bridge,” Kumar added. It is notable that the Great Pamban Bridge attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world. Offering a visual feast to the onlookers, the Scherzer rolling spans beautifully expand and allow cruisers and ships to pass through. The bridge transports scores of pilgrims visiting the famed Ramanathaswamy Temple. (ANI)
