Three people including a woman died in landslide incidents in Haflong area in Dima Hasao district on Saturday. Following incessant rains in Assam and neighboring states– Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh– in the past couple of days, the water level of several rivers are gradually increasing and the water in Kopili river is flowing above the danger level mark. According to the flood reports of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), till May 14, a total of 24,681 people in 94 villages in six districts – Cachar, Dhemaji, U d a i p u r (Rajasthan) [India], May 16 (ANI): At the conclusion of the three-day Nav Sankalp Shivir, the Congress Working Committee on Sunday adopted the Udaipur Declaration. Party’s General secretary Ajay Maken read out the declaration here. Reading out the declaration, Maken said that Congress will reach out to all like-minded parties and is open to alliances. In the declaration, the Congress party has decided to set up three new departments — public insight, election management and national training. “(i) ‘Public Insight Department’, so that the Congress leadership can get “rational feedback” for knowing the views of the public on different subjects and for policymaking. (ii) Establishment of a ‘National Training Institute’, so that the party’s leaders and workers can get comprehensive training on the policies, ideology, vision, policies of the government and current burning issues. This national training institute can be started from ‘Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Development Studies’ in Kerala. (iii) “Election Management Department” should be constituted at the level of All India Congress Committee, so that every election preparation is done effectively and expected results are obtained,” read the declaration copy. Under the General Secretary (Organization) Hojai, Karbi Anglong West, Nagaon and Kamrup (Metro) have been affected in the first spell of flood. The flood waters have also submerged 1732.72 hectares of cropland in the flood hit districts. Nearly 1.97 lakh people in 20 districts of the state have been affected by the current spell of floods. of the Indian National Congress, the work of the office-bearers of the All India Congress Committee, State Congress Committee, and District Congress Committee will also be evaluated, so that the officebearers doing the best work get a chance to move forward and the inactive office bearers can be retrenched, the declaration mentioned. Kumar has been serving in ECI as Election Commissioner since September 1, 2020. During his tenure as Election Commissioner, elections have been held for State Assemblies of Bihar in 2020, Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal amidst Covid concerns in MarchApril 2021 and also elections to Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh recently in early 2022. After assuming charge as CEC, Rajiv Kumar said that he is honored to have been given the responsibility to lead one of the finest institutions gifted by the Indian Constitution – the institution that reinforces our democracy. He stated that a lot has been done during the last seventy years by ECI to give our citizens free and fair elections, to ensure purity of the electoral rolls, prevent malpractices and enhance the quality of our elections. “The Commission will follow the time-tested and democratic methods of consultations and consensus building in bringing about any major reforms for dynamically evolving to changing contexts. (ANI) New Delhi [India], May 18 (ANI): With 1,829 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, India’s tally remained below the 2000-mark for the second consecutive day, informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday. On Tuesday, India reported 1,569 cases in 24 hours, and for the first time, daily cases fell below the 2,000-mark in a month. With the addition of fresh cases, India’s active cases stand at 15,647, which account for 0.04 per cent of the total cases. The top five states which registered maximum cases are Delhi with 393 cases, followed by Kerala with 324 cases, Haryana with 275 cases, Maharashtra with 266 cases and Uttar Pradesh with 129 cases. The daily positivity rate of the country is 0.42 per cent while the weekly positivity rate is 0.57 per cent. A total of 2,549 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, which took total recoveries to 4,25,87,259 across the country. India’s recovery rate now stands at 98.75 per cent. The country also reported 33 COVIDrelated fatalities, increasing the total reported death count to 5,24,293. As per the health ministry, India conducted over 84.49 core COVID tests so far of which 4,34,962 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. The water level of the Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger level mark at Neamatighat in Jorhat district and Kopili river in the Kampur area in Nagaon district. Normal life has been affected as the flood situation prevails in Nagaon district’s Kampur area. Landslides have been reported from New Kunjung,Fiangpui,Moulhoi, Namzeurang, South Bagetar, Mahadev Tilla, Kalibari, North Bagetar, Zion and Lodi Pangmoul villages. The bulletin informed that the Railway line at Jatinga-Harangajao and Mahur-Phaiding was blocked due to landslides. The road connecting the Maibang tunnel at Geremlambra village is also likely blocked. The government has deployed the Indian Army, paramilitary forces, Fire and Emergency Services, SDRF, civil administration and trained volunteers for evacuation and relief measures. A joint venture between the Kachar district administration and the Assam Rifles rescued the flood victims in the Barakhla area and sent them to relief camps. A p a r t from human beings, the flood has also affected 1,434 animals and a total of 202 houses have been damaged so far. The Army, paramilitary forces, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services carried out rescue and relief operations in flood-hit areas of the state. Several roads, bridges, and irrigation canals were damaged in Hojai, Lakhimpur and Nagaon districts. In view of incessant rain, landslides and waterlogging at several locations in the LumdingBadarpur hill section of the Lumding division, Northeast Frontier Railway made changes in train services over the section due to this serious condition. However, two trains got stranded, each with about 1400 passengers, NF Railway said in an official statement. Railway initiated massive evacuation operations with the help of the Air Force, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Assam Rifles, and local people. Around 1,245 railway passengers stranded at Ditokcherra station have been brought up to Badarpur and Silchar and 119 passengers have been airlifted by the Indian Air Force to Silchar, the Railway said in a statement. The Railway while putting efforts into rescuing the stranded passengers is taking care of sanitation and ensuring medical facilities for every passenger. Food and drinking water have also been supplied to them. May 20, 2022 Friday INDIA THIS WEEK Railway sets up Gati Shakti directorate to focus on its projects under PM Gati Shakti scheme New Delhi [India], May 18 (ANI): To prioritise its projects under the PM Gati Shakti Scheme, the Ministry of Railways has set up a new directorate under the Railway Board. According to official sources, the newly formed Gati Shakti directorate will be headed by an additional member rank official and will also comprise executive directors of finance, electrical, civil, traffic, signaling, and telecom. A director rank official from Railway Protection Force (RPF) would be the head security department. Sources informed that setting up a dedicated directorate of Gati Shakti is an initiative of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw with an aim to give shape to the PM Gati Shakti Scheme in a time-bound manner. With the new setup, projects up to Rs 100 crore under Gati Shakti Scheme will get approval from Member, Finance and will be finally approved by the Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board. Projects more than Rs 100 crore and up to Rs 500 crore will also get approval from Member, Finance and will be finally approved by the Ministry of Railways after the recommendation of the Railway Board. The Gati Shakti Directorate will get approval for projects more than Rs 500 crore and up to Rs 1000 crore from Member, Finance and will be approved by the Ministry of Railways. Projects, more than Rs 1,000 crore will get approval from Member, Finance and will be approved by Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. Balasore (Odisha) [India], May 18 (ANI): Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted the maiden flight test of the indigenously developed Naval Antiship missile launched from Seaking 42B Naval Helicopter from ITR Balasore in Odisha on Wednesday at 8:50 am. This firing is a significant step towards achieving self-reliance in niche missile technology and reaffirms the Indian Navy’s commitment to indigenization. The mission has met all its objectives. It is the first indigenous airlaunched Anti-ship missile system for the Indian Navy. The missile followed the desired seaskimming trajectory and reached the designated target with a high degree of accuracy, validating the control, guidance, and mission algorithms. All the sub-systems performed satisfactorily. The sensors deployed across the test range and near the impact point tracked the missile trajectory and captured all the events. The missile employed many new technologies including an indigenously developed launcher for the helicopter. The missile guidance system includes a state-ofthe-art navigation system and integrated avionics. The flight test was witnessed by senior officers of DRDO and the Indian Navy. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, Indian Navy, and associated teams for the maiden developmental flight test and said that India attained a high level of capability in the indigenous design and development of missile systems. Secretary DD R&D and Chairman DRDO, Dr. G Satheesh Reddy appreciated the efforts of the project team and congratulated the DRDO community for successfully proving mission objectives. He also complimented the Indian Navy and Naval Flight Test Squadron for their support of the project and said that the system will strengthen the offensive capability of the Indian Navy. The 21-year-old’s family members alleged that Chethana passed away due to doctors’ negligence. Reportedly, Chethana was admitted to the hospital for the surgery on May 16. However, she developed complications as fluid began to accumulate in her lungs. Chethana breathed her last on Tuesday and her family members are in deep shock ever since they learned about her demise. Chethana’s parents have even lodged a complaint against the hospital. The decision came amid requests by states and UTs to continue the procurement process The move is expected to benefit farmers, according to a government statement. “In the interest of farmers, and as per the request of the state governments, it has been decided that all respective States/UTs and FCI may continue with wheat procurement and farmers can sell their wheat to the state/FCI at MSP as per the specifications, under the central pool. Procurement of wheat in the States to continue upto 31.5.22 or till an earlier approved date, whichever is later”, stated the letter addressed to the governments of Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The Centre, recently, has amended the Export policy of wheat by putting its export under the “prohibited” category. The order that was rolled out by the Ministry of Commerce late Friday night stated that the government has banned the wheat exports with “immediate effect”. The government said that the move is being made to manage the overall food security of the country and to the needs of the neighbouring and other vulnerable countries. “There is a sudden spike in the global prices of wheat arising out of many factors, as a result of which the food security of India, neighbouring and other vulnerable countries is at risk,” said the Ministry in its notification. FRIDAY MAY 20, 2022 9 Telangana Govt sets up 256 Basti Dawakhanas, giving free treatment to poor people Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], May 15 (ANI): In order to provide healthcare services to urban poor, the Government of Telangana has established 256 Basti Dawakhanas in urban slums with each Dawa khana providing services to 5,000 to 10,000 persons. These centres provide 53 different kinds of free health services including outpatient consultation, medicines, basic lab diagnosis, antenatal and postnatal care, and screening for noncommunicable diseases. Specialist consultation is also provided at Basti Dawakhanas through Telemedicine, a Dawa khana doctor said. Locals said that Basti Dawakhana is really helpful to them, especially for poor people who cannot afford private hospitals. The doctors here are providing good treatment with required medicines and have covered max health issues. Speaking to ANI, a patient, Mohd Abdul Razak, said, “I am coming here for treatment for the last two years. Here everyone, from children to elders is getting free of cost treatment. Telangana Government is provident good service. We are thankful to the KCR government for giving medical assistance to nearby our houses.”Another patient, Ali Bin Sayeed said, “We are getting treatments for Cough, fever, and cold. The Doctors here are good and humble. They give a response immediately. The state government is really doing good work.” BastiDawakhanas reduces travel and waiting for the time for patients, as well as the out-of-pocket expenditure for patients by serving as an efficient platform for convergence with other NHM programmes, and reducing the burden on secondary and tertiary health care facilities. Doctor of Rainbazar Basti Dawakana, Dr. Farah Naaz said, “This Dawa khana was started in February 2020. I have been appointed here from day one. The main purpose of this Basti Dawakana is to provide the nearest services for minor issues like fever, cold, cough, and noncommunicable diseases like BP, sugar, and thyroid. Patients need to go to Osmania or Gandhi hospital for these minor issues. To avoid that, government is providing the services in the local areas.” She said that free medicines and lab tests are provided to all the patients who come to the Dawa khana. Patients with Gynecological issues are also treated there and for issues like BP, Sugar, 350 patients are given medication on monthly basis.” “I am available here from 9 am to 4 pm every day. We have basic things like outpatient (OP) lab services where 30 to 35 tests are done. Telangana government has started teleconsultation, which is a boon for the people over here. We make them talk to the consultant, dermatologist, General physician, General surgeon,” the doctor added. She said that people coming to the Dawa khana are generally very poor, they cannot afford private hospitals. The state government has started new services, to provide medicines and treatments on Sundays as well. So, the patients who cannot come on weekdays can get their checkups done between 9 am and 2 pm on Sundays. “Every day we treat 80 to 150 patients and provide lab services for 25 to 30 samples daily in this Dawakana. If any medicine or treatment is not available here, we make the patients talk to the consultants online. We have the app of teleconsultation by which we make them talk to a consultant. But, usually, the patients are treated at the sub-central level only.” she said. (ANI)
