Clarence E. Benson

Obituary Clarence Edward Benson started this life’s journey as a wide-eyed, gentle soul. He was born to the union of Fletcher and Addie Mae (Briggs) Benson on November 13, 1953. He attended Childress School and then spent time living with his Uncle Jr. and his family in California before returning to Nashville. He graduated from Nashville Public School in 1971. H Clarence was an intellect, a thinker, an avid reader and he lived life on his own terms. He loved playing chess, working crossword puzzles and watching westerns. He was also an excellent cook and loved seafood. During his lifetime he served his country in the United States Navy where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He spent time working in the family business and farm and would later go on to earn a Paralegal Certificate. He worked at Red River Army Depot and held supervisory positions at Collom & Carney Clinic and Sonic Drive-In. Clarence was preceded in death by his loving and dedicated wife, Lurene Pryor Benson, his parents, Fletcher and Addie Mae Benson, his brother Jimmy Lee Trotter and his sister Ramona, who died as an infant. Clarence’s memory will be cherished by many including his daughters, Cadesha (Joe) Whitaker of Texarkana, TX, Addie (Josh) Fisher of Grand Prairie, TX, Yshunta (Chantel) Benson of Redford, MI, Tunisa Nichole (Kelli) Benson of Lewisville, TX, and Olga Marie Benson of Roseville, CA. His sons, Christopher Benson of Fayetteville, AR, Almonzo Benson of Sacramento, CA, and Marco Nunerley of Grapevine, TX. Four sisters, Mattie White of Marshall, TX, Vickie (Alma) Swift of Nashville, AR, Tangie Benson of TX and Dorothy (Fred) Thomas-Berry of Toledo, OH. His 4 brothers Marlon (Deborah) Benson and Michael Benson of Nashville, AR, Charles (Jackie) Sewell of Lancaster, TX and Dewayne Thomas of Toledo, OH. His maternal aunt, Rosa Lord of Peoria, AZ and his paternal uncle, Reverend Willie Benson of Nashville, AR. 2 sisters-in-law, Billie Jean Milanez of Kansas City, MO and Lillian Hutchinson of Nashville, AR. His close cousins, Gynder Benson of Nashville, AR and Sharon Benson of Dallas, TX. Close friends, Minnie Lee Erby, Reecy Anderson Jr., Willie Mae Nunn and Leon Elliott. Clarence had a special connection with his nephews and nieces and they always made sure he was taken care of. Clarence’s journey here came to an end on Friday, January 28, 2022. He is now free from the cares, pain and burdens of this world.
