Since 1930, AAWV has encouraged artists to show their work, fostered the development of new works, and furthered artistic interests in the community. PARKERSBURG ART CENTER is a fully accessible facility for all patrons.
THE 74TH JURIED EXHIBITION OF ALLIED ARTISTS OF WEST VIRGINIA IS HONORED TO BE PRESENTED IN THE PARKERSBURG ART CENTER WOW! What a fantastic show we have assembled. We have a total of 80 pieces of art including paintings, fiber art, photography, 3 D art in various media; the sheer variety of work is so impressive. Our juror, Jolene Powell had a very difficult time choosing the best of the submitted works. So much great art! But luckily we had a juror that was up to the challenge. I hope you enjoy the wonderful talent we have brought together in this exhibit. My thanks to our juror, Jolene Powell, for her expertise. Many thanks to the experienced and helpful personnel at the Parkersburg Art Center including Jesse Siefert and her staff. And my personal thanks to Abby Hayhurst: Abby, I couldn’t do this without you! Jolene Powell is a McCoy Professor of Art and Director of Gallery 310 at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. An established artist, she is represented by Brandt Gallery in Columbus and Chase Young Gallery in Boston. Powell holds an MFA from Boston University and has received Marietta College’s Innovative Teaching Award, the Edward G. Harness Outstanding Educator Award, and the McCoy Teaching Excellence Professorship. She has served as a juror for the Ohio Arts JUROR STATEMENT As a West Virginia native, I’ve always been aware of the long and well-established history of Allied Artists of West Virginia, so serving as your juror fulfills a lifelong goal. As a young artist early in my career, I admired many of your members. Serving as a juror and connecting with new artists is my favorite professional activity, as an artist, educator, and curator. I know firsthand the importance of having someone else engage with your work: that’s what closes the loop. We create, we put our work out into the world for others to appreciate, and I connected with every single submission. I was tasked with shaping the submissions into the best exhibition possible, with a maximum of 80 pieces. It was a difficult task, but one I deeply enjoyed. Not everything I admired could be included, but that doesn’t mean it was without merit or recognition: it simply means not everything submitted could be part of this exhibition. I want to congratulate all of the artists for taking the time to submit their work for consideration, and to celebrate all of the wonderful pieces chosen for the exhibition. I look forward to seeing the work in person and meeting the artists, and I want to sincerely thank Allied Artists of West Virginia for giving me this wonderful opportunity.
