A printable attendance tracker will be attached seperately. T-LEVEL YEAR 2: Monday and Tuesday. Block weeks will be sent via email. T-LEVEL YEAR 1: Thursday and Friday. Block weeks to be sent via email. TOQ: Block weeks to be sent via email. Every Tuesday. STL YEAR 2: Block week commencing 14/9/26. Other days to be confirmed. STL YEAR 1: Block week commencing 7/9/26. Other days to be confirmed. CHILDCARE LEVEL 2: Block weeks: 1/2/27-12/2/27 14/6/27-25/2/27.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM COLLEGE:

Health and Safety Risk Assessment: Assessment: This will be valid for 3 years. This will be booked in, timeously, via email with the criteria (policies, fire risk assessment etc. Proof of The Employer Liability Insurance will be requested yearly. Communication: Contact Roxanne Brockley by email (r.brockley@barnsley.ac.uk) or by phone (01226 216 397) if you have any cause for concern or just want to provide feedback on the students. We welcome open and honest communication. Assessor: Students completing T-level Year 2, STL or TOQ require assessments. The assessor will book this in via email. The email will include what is required. DBS: All our childcare students have an enhanced DBS but are not required to be on the update service. A letter of assurance is available on request. Students are required to bring this in on the first day. This needs to be returned to them. Navigate: Navigate is our online system which supports the development of knowledge, skills and behaviours- it’s provides careers advice and also allows for placement hours to be logged and approved by the employer. You will receive an email weekly to approve the students hours.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM COLLEGE:

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:

Behaviour and attitude: We expect our students to be professional and have a strong work ethic. Unless, the setting has requested otherwise, students need to wear their blue Barnsley College placement polo shirts and suitable trousers and comfortable shoes. Communication: Students are expected to communicate with college as well as placement via phone call, if they are going to be absent due to exams, illness etc. DBS and identity: Students are expected to bring in their DBS on their first day of placement as well as a form of ID. Student cards are acceptable. Navigate: Students have to regularly update their hours on Navigate. Accurately recording their hours is their responsibility.

Hours: Students are expected to be at placement from 8:30-16:30 (8 hours). Placement folder: Each student has a placement folder and tracking sheet that needs to be taken into placement on their placement days. The folder needs to be kept up-to-date. The tracker needs to be signed weekly. Key Responsibilities: Students should be exposed to different aspects of school. This could be making posters, hanging displays, interacting with children, dress up days and using equipment. The skills and experience they can gain from the classroom environment is invaluable. Students have also covered Safeguarding and GDPR in their lessons at college and are aware not to take photos of children and to report issues they may come across.

THE EXPECTATIONS OF THE SETTING:

Age awareness: Our students range from age 16-19. Please be mindful of their age regarding behaviours. Positive guidance and encouragement will enhance their experiences. Communication: Please let Barnsley College know if a student it absent, there is a concern or you have noticed a pattern in behaviour etc. Together we have a duty of care to our students as well as safeguarding responsibilities. Placement folders: Staff/ mentors are asked to regularly check on the folder. Tracking sheets should be signed weekly. Navigate: Barnsley College uses the Navigate system to track the students hours. Support from Staff: Our students would require support whilst on placement. A mentor or class teacher that is involved would be beneficial. Some students i.e. T-level year 2, STLS and TOQs may require support in planning for their assessments. Students may not be counted in ratios. Health and Safety: Every setting requires an up-to-date Health and Safety Risk assessment that college has done. This is valid for 3 years. An ELI certificate will be requested yearly.
