COVID Special Issue APRIL TO JUNE 2021 Adviser Full Prof. Dr. Leonardo Munalim, LPT I am delighted to inform the PWU Community that starting this COVID-19 Special Issue of The Paseo, including the upcoming regular Philwomenian issues, these student publications will have their assigned International Standard Serial Numbers (ISSNs) both for print and online versions. As we join the community of writers for global readership, the Editorial Board believes that there is a dire need for ISSN to distinguish our student publications from possible similar titles around the world. For this Issue, I congratulate all of the Board members and the poets for yet another success in this continuing collective endeavor of regular publications. I would like to personally express my gratitude to the two special alumnae Debbie Mijares-Gatan and Regina CorneliaAcuna for their literary contributions. Mrs. Acuna had been Editor In Chief of The Philwomenian from 1979-1980. As we wade through this COVID-19 pandemic, it is my fervent hope that we continue to use language -- prose and creative -- that is capable of healing the sick, pacifying the devastated, and expressing compassion with one another. May we continue to reflect on our actions during this pandemic in service to... God, our country, our brethren, and home.
COVID Special Issue APRIL TO JUNE 2021 Chief Editor Majella Vinda Therese Ricafranca This COVID-19 Special Issue of The Paseo brings together a total of 22 poems. It is a juxtaposition of pain, hopes, faith, Bayanihan, and celebration of life during the pandemic. This Issue features 12 poems of undergraduate students; 6 poems of our PWU faculty members; and 4 poems of our dearest alumnae. We would like to thank the faculty members for inviting their students to contribute to this Issue: Assistant Professor Elizabeth Ann Gutierrez and Assistant Professor Jom Caballero. Needless to say, our poems during the pandemic have been indited, and will become part of the soon-to-be 200-year-old PWU. We look forward to publishing your literary pieces for our next issues. Ortiz AB-Psychology-III Sa dami ng trahedyang dumating Mga buhay niyang kinitil Ngunit sa bawat hamon at pagkadapa Babangon ng taas noo para sa Bansa. “Mga Pilipino tayo!” Tatlong salitang isinisigaw ng ating puso Sa bawat pagsikat ng araw at paglubog ng buwan Dala nito’y bagong pag-asa para sa Bayan. Sa lahat ng sakuna’y ating naranasan Kasiyahan parin ang sagot kadalasan Maging bagyo, baha o lindol man yan Pilipino kami, sakuna ka lamang! Kahit pandemya, Pilipino’y kumakapit parin Gumagawa ng paraan para may makakain Lakad matatag kahit trabaho’y mahirap Lahat gagawin matupad lang ang pangarap. Tibay ng puso ay 'di mahihigitan Kahit anong hamon di aatrasan Pilipino kami, problema lang ‘yan Laging matatag sa hamon ng kapalaran. Sa gitna ng sakuna,hahanapin saan man, Pag-asang inanod,puso ay napagod Isang linggo at marami pang mga araw Darating pa ba, simulang tinatanaw? Kahit na sa gabi’y giniginaw Sa umaga’y sisikat din ang araw. Kumapit ka kaibigan Dilim ay may hangganan Sa iyong pag-asam na kinabukasan Lumbay sayo ay lilisan. COVID Special Issue APRIL TO JUNE 2021 LUHA NG MATATAG Mary Joyce Mangaring AB-Psychology-III Dahil sa nangyayari ngayon sa ating mundo Iba’t ibang uri ng luha ay aking napagtanto: May luhang makikita mo sa pisngi’y pumapatak, May luhang sa isip at puso lumalaganap. May luhang kapag ikaw ay masaya, May luhang kapag ikaw ay naiiyak na talaga. May luhang naipapakita, May luhang ayaw ipahalata ng iba. May luhang parang isang misteryo, May luhang pinapaalam ang buong kwento. May luhang dahil nadala ka lang, May luhang dahil sa tunay mong nararamdaman. Ano mang uri ng luhang, mayroon ka ngayon, Maraming salamat sa patuloy na pagbangon. KATATAGAN SA GITNA NG PANDEMYA Drew Andrei Marie Nogrado Cruz AB-Psychology-III Ang saya, Ang sayang balikan ang mga araw Na wala pa ang pandemya Na nagdulot ng pagka-alarma. Bawat Pilipino’y tila’y nangangapa Ano mang antas sa lipunan ay hindi mapayapa Mahirap man o mayaman, bata man o matanda Ang bawat isa sa atin ay hindi handa. Katatagan, katangian ng Pilipinong mamamayan Katangian na proteksyon sa kapahamakan Tibay ng kalooban ang nagsisilbing sandalan Sa buhay, ang problema’y hindi maiiwasan. Ano ba ang resolba ng pandemyang ating dinaranas? Ang paulit-ulit na tanong ng karamihan Sa araw-araw na pagsubaybay sa lunas Tila’y kinakailangan ang pagsiklab ng Bayanihan na kung saan ay walang maiiwanan Saan mang dako sa ating bansa Kinakailangang tayo’y magtulungan Pademya’y mapagtagumpayan.
