After New Zealand opted to field first following the toss, Samson scored 89 off 46 balls with five fours and eight sixes, while Abhishek Sharma struck 52 off 21 balls with six fours and three sixes. Ishan Kishan added 54 off 25 balls with four boundaries and four sixes, and Shivam Dube provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 26 off eight balls to power India to 255/5. In response, despite a half-century from Tim Seifert, who scored 52 off 26 balls with two fours and five sixes, New Zealand struggled against the disciplined bowling of Axar Patel, who took 3/27, and Jasprit Bumrah, who delivered a devastating spell of 4/15. India eventually bowled out New Zealand for 159 in 19 overs. With the win, India secured their third T20 World Cup title, becoming the first team to successfully defend the trophy and the first host nation to win the tournament. The victory also helped India erase memories of the 2023 ODI World Cup final at the same venue, where Australia ended India’s 10-match winning streak with a defeat in the final. Chasing 256, New Zealand began aggressively as Seifert attacked Hardik Pandya in the second over with two fours and two sixes. FRIDAY, MARCH 13, 2026 ‘To take a little pressure off’: Trump says on US granting “permission” to India to accept Russian oil Washington DC [US], March 8 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Saturday (US local time) spoke to the media about several developments in the wake of the unfolding security situation in West Asia and the Gulf and responded to the announcement by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on temporarily allowing India to purchase Russian oil. He made the remarks aboard US Air Force One. When asked about Bessent’s announcement of temporarily allowing certain Russian oil sales to India and whether the US is considering any other moves, including the SPR, Trump said, “If there were some, I would do it just to take a little of the pressure off.” He added, “I think that the oil pressure– there’s a lot of oil. We’ve got a lot of oil. Our country has a tremendous amount and we have, there’s a lot of oil out there. That’ll get healed very quickly.” His remarks come after Scott Bessent, the US Treasury Secretary, yet again said that the United States has given India the “permission” to accept Russian oil in the wake of the developing security situation in West Asia. In an interview with Fox Business, Bessent said, “The Indians have been very good actors. We had asked them to stop buying sanctioned Russian oil this fall. They did. They were going to substitute it with US oil. But to ease the temporary gap of oil around the world, we have given them permission to accept Russian oil. We may un-sanction other Russian oil.” With the crisis in the Gulf severely hampering shipping routes that pass through the Strait of Hormuz, the United States on Thursday (local time) allowed a 30-day waiver for India to purchase Russian Oil to meet its energy requirements. India sources nearly 40 per cent of its oil imports from the Middle East, with a significant portion transported through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Notably, according to sources, India is reviewing its energy situation twice a day and is in a very comfortable position regarding its energy security. India’s current stock position is also seen to be comfortable, with stock being replenished every day. As per the sources, there is no shortage of LPG or LNG, as well as crude oil, in the world. Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri on Friday said there is no shortage of energy in India and there is no cause of worry for its energy consumers. The minister discussed various aspects of India’s uninterrupted energy imports despite geopolitical challenges with the media. “Our priority is to ensure availability of affordable and sustainable fuel for our citizens, and we are doing it comfortably. There is no shortage of energy in India and there is no cause of worry for our energy consumers,” the minister posted on X. According to the sources, the country currently has access to more energy supplies from diversified sources than the volume that could potentially be impacted through the Strait of Hormuz. India’s existing stock of crude oil and petroleum products is also adequate to meet domestic demand. Sources said the government is closely monitoring the situation and plans to ramp up supplies from alternative geographies to offset any potential supply constraints linked to the Strait of Hormuz. They highlighted that India has significantly diversified its crude import basket over the past few years. Since 2022, India has been importing crude oil from Russia. While Russia accounted for only 0.2 per cent of India’s total crude imports in 2022, the share has risen substantially in the following years. “In February, India imported about 20 per cent of its total crude oil imports from Russia, amounting to around 1.04 million barrels per day,” government sources said. Also on Friday, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that Washington’s decision on issuing a 30-day waiver to India to purchase certain Russian oil supplies is part of “short-term measures” aimed at keeping global oil prices under control amid supply pressures linked to tensions in the Middle East. This comes amid escalating tensions in West Asia after a joint US-Israel military strike on February 28 on Iranian territory resulted in the death of its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior figures, prompting a fierce response from Tehran. In retaliation, Iran launched waves of drone and missile attacks across multiple Arab countries. (ANI)

After about four decades, a No-Confidence Motion against Lok Sabha Speaker has been brought. It is unfortunate for Parliamentary politics and this House,” Amit Shah said.” According to the established history of this House, its proceedings are conducted on the basis of mutual trust. The Speaker serves as a neutral custodian, representing both the ruling party and the Oppo- sition. Specific rules have been created by this very Lok Sabha to guide how the Speaker should conduct the sessions. This House is not a marketplace; members are expected to speak and participate according to its rules and procedures,” he added. Amit Shah slammed the opposition and said its action has raised questions on the deep reputation of India’s democracy. The Constitution has given the role of a mediator to the Speaker. FRIDAY, MARCH 13, 2026 Online anti-Indian hate surge: NCRI report highlights rising rhetoric, influencer role Washington DC [US], March 11 (ANI): A recent analysis by the Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI) has revealed a significant rise in anti-Indian commentary and hostility on social media platforms, with targeted posts and coordinated campaigns driving much of the online rhetoric, as stated in a column by Tanner Nau, Editorial Fellow at The Free Press. According to The Free Press column by Tanner Nau, the NCRI report stated that anti-Indian discourse on social media platform X saw a dramatic increase in 2025, nearly tripling compared to 2024 and generating over 300 million views. The institute identified approximately 24,000 posts containing anti-Indian content, reflecting growing online animosity linked to debates over immigration, national identity and visa policies.Tanner Nau, in his column, stated that the anal- ysis found that this surge was driven not by broad public engagement but by a small number of highly active accounts, with the three “most prolific posters” alone responsible for 525 posts. These accounts accounted for more than 10 per cent of all likes and 20 per cent of reposts among anti-Indian content reviewed by the institute. The report highlighted that many posts emerged in response to changes in US immigration policy, particularly around H-1B work visas. In September, the Trump administration introduced a USD 100,000 fee for employers sponsoring H-1B workers, described by the White House as a measure to curb fraud. NCRI noted that much of the highly engaged anti-Indian commentary during that period praised the policy as a way to restrict Indian immigration while also engaging in racially charged language.So- cial media posts frequently included ethnic slurs and stereotypes alongside discussions about visas, legal and illegal immigration, and cultural assimilation. The volume of anti-Indian posts peaked in mid-December 2025, with some weeks seeing over 800 posts containing derogatory terms such as “pajeet” and “dothead”, Tanner Nau stated in his column for The Free Press. One recent instance that reignited online controversy involved a video of an Indian couple participating in an online dance challenge at the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC, which prompted some users to condemn the couple’s behaviour and call for limits on H-1B visas, the column stated. NCRI identified the three most frequent creators of anti-Indian posts on X as NeonWhiteCat, MattForney, and TheBrancaShow. As of this week, MattForney and The- BrancaShow together had approximately 219,000 followers, while NeonWhiteCat’s account appeared to be inactive. The report also noted the political implications of the trend. Historically, Indian Americans have tended to support the Democratic Party, but recent Carnegie Endowment for International Peace re- New Delhi [India], March 11 (ANI): In a landmark first, the Supreme Court of India on Wednesday permitted passive euthanasia for a 31-year-old man from Ghaziabad who has been in a persistent vegetative state for over a decade, observing that continuing life-sustaining treatment would no longer be in the patient’s best interest.A bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and KV Vishwanathan allowed the withdrawal of clinically assisted nutrition and hydration (CANH) for Harish Rana, who has remained in a vegetative state since suffering an accidental fall from a building in 2013. Passive euthanasia refers to the withdrawal or withholding of life-sustaining treatment to allow a patient with no reasonable prospect of recovery to die naturally. Expressing profound sadness while delivering the judgment, the court noted that all stakeholders, including the patient’s family and the medical boards constituted to assess his condition, were in agreement that continuing aggressive medical support would serve no meaningful purpose. ”In light of the unanimous consensus arrived at by the parents/next of kin and the constituted medical boards respectively, we are of the opinion that the medical treatment ought not to be prolonged any further,” the court observed.Reflecting on the gravity of the case, the bench said the proceedings had highlighted the fragility of life and the profound suffering endured by the patient over the past thirteen years. ”Throughout the adjudication of this matter, we have been gripped by profound sadness. The issues in this matter have once again brought to the fore the fragility and transient nature of the life we live, and how swiftly the tide can turn for the worse. For the past thirteen years, the applicant has lived a life defined by pain and suffering. A suffering made all the more cruel by the fact that, unlike most of us, he was stripped of the ability to even give voice to his anguish,” the court noted in its judgment. The bench also placed on record its appreciation for the patient’s family, observing that they had remained steadfast in caring for him throughout the years.”We note with immense respect that the applicant’s parents and siblings have stood as unyielding pillars of support. They have exhausted every effort to care for him and continue to do so with unwavering dedication. We can only place on record our deepest appreciation for their boundless love, endurance, and kindness in the face of such adversity,” the judgment said.Addressing the family directly, the court acknowledged the emotional burden of the decision and expressed that by seeking passing euthenasia for their son, they were allowing him to leave with dignity. “To Harish’s family, we want to acknowledge the deep emotional weight this decision carries. This decision can feel like an act of surrender, but we believe it is, in truth, an act of profound compassion and courage. You are not giving up on your son. You are allowing him to leave with dignity. It reflects the depth of your selfless love and devotion towards him,” the bench said. The court also directed the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to facilitate the patient’s transfer to its palliative care department, where the withdrawal of medical support will be carried out in a structured and dignified manner. The bench also noted the absence of a comprehensive law on endof-life care and urged the Union government to consider bringing legislation in line with the principles laid down in Common Cause v. Union of India (2018) in which the top-court had recognised the right to die with dignity as part of the right to life under Article 21 and had laid down guidelines permitting passive euthanasia .”The prolonged absence of comprehensive legislation on end-of-life care has compelled this Court, time and again, to step in to fill the vacuum,” the court said. It further added a dedicated law, which, in this regard, would bring greater clarity and certainty to such emotionally complex issues. (ANI) Right to ‘leave with dignity’: SC’s maiden ruling allows passive euthanasia search shows a shift, with 46 per cent of Indian Americans identifying as Democrats in 2026 - down from 52 per cent in 2020. Prominent Indian Americans have held influential roles in US politics, including FBI Director Kash Patel and Harmeet Dhillon, head of the US Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division. Dhillon -born in India -- faced online backlash from fringe activists during the Republican National Convention in 2024 over her delivery of a Sikh prayer, comments she described as “blatant racism and nativism”, according to The Free Press column by Tanner Nau. Some conservative-leaning Indian Americans have expressed concern about the impact of toxic online narratives on community engagement and political alignment. Utsav Sanduja, former executive director of Hindus for America First, said that the rise in anti-Indian rhetoric was a troubling development for communities that had worked to build bipartisan political support, as reported in the column. Unlike some immigration criticisms that frame newcomers as a burden on public resources, much of the online anti-Indian commentary instead portrayed Indian immigrants as “too successful” or accused them of “stealing American jobs”, citing data showing that Indian-led households had significantly higher median incomes and educational attainment than national averages, the column stated. The report also highlighted online hostility directed at US Second Lady Usha Vance, whose parents immigrated to the US from India and who has been both celebrated for her role and targeted by far-right commentators.NCRI found more than 2,000 posts related to anti-Indian commentary around Usha Vance. When asked about far-right comments last year, Vice President JD Vance responded bluntly, saying that one controversial critic could “eat shit”.The column, citing the NCRI study, underscores the evolving landscape of social media discourse around immigration and identity in the United States, with online platforms playing an increasingly influential role in shaping narratives and amplifying divisive content. Remember: “Pride goeth before destruction, And an haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, Than to divide the spoil with the proud. He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: And whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.” Proverbs

T20 World Cup: Team India Beats NZ by 96 Runs to Secure Third T20 World Cup Title at AhmedabadWipes Out Ghosts of 2023 T20 World Cup from page 1 However, Finn Allen, who starred in the semifinal, was dismissed for nine off seven balls after hitting an Axar Patel delivery to long-on, where Tilak Varma completed the catch. New Zealand were 31/1 in 2.4 overs. Jasprit Bumrah then removed Rachin Ravindra for just one with a delivery that resulted in a sharp catch by Ishan Kishan. New Zealand slipped to 32/2 in 3.1 overs. Seifert continued attacking, hitting Axar Patel for a four and a six, but the spinner struck back by dismissing Glenn Phillips for five. New Zealand were reduced to 47/3 in 4.5 overs and ended the powerplay at 52/3 with Seifert and Mark Chapman at the crease. Seifert kept up the pressure by hitting Varun Chakravarthy for a couple of sixes, but Hardik Pandya dismissed Mark Chapman for three, and Varun Chakravarthy soon removed Seifert for 52. New Zealand were five down for 72 in 8.1 overs. Daryl Mitchell and captain Mitchell Santner attempted to stabilize the innings, taking New Zealand to 88/5 after 10 overs and crossing the 100-run mark shortly after. However, their 52-run partnership ended when Axar Patel dismissed Mitchell for 17 off 11 balls. Bumrah struck twice in quick succession in the 16th over, removing James Neesham for eight and Matt Henry for a duck. He later took his fourth wicket by dismissing Santner for 43 off 35 balls, leaving New Zealand at 152/9 in 17.3 overs. Abhishek Sharma took the final wicket by dismissing Jacob Duffy for three, ending New Zealand’s innings at 159 in 19 overs. Earlier, India produced a batting masterclass after being put in to bat. Openers Sanju Sam- son and Abhishek Sharma dominated the powerplay, putting New Zealand’s bowlers under pressure. After a cautious start, India accelerated in the fourth over, scoring 24 runs off Lockie Ferguson with two fours and two sixes. The pair became the first opening duo to register a 50-plus partnership in a T20 World Cup final, with India reaching 50 runs in just four overs. New Zealand’s pacers, including Matt Henry, struggled with their line and length, with Henry bowling four wides in the fifth over. The team delivered eight extra balls in the powerplay, the most they have bowled in a T20I powerplay, allowing India to capitalize and race to 92 runs in the first six overs, the highest powerplay score in a T20 World Cup match. Abhishek Sharma brought up his half-century in just 18 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes to record the fastest fifty of the tournament. Rachin Ravindra eventually provided the breakthrough when Sharma edged a delivery to the wicketkeeper after scoring 52 off 21 balls. However, the 98-run opening stand had already laid the foundation for a massive total, with India at 98/1 in 7.1 overs. Samson and Ishan Kishan maintained the momentum, taking India to 127/1 after 10 overs. Samson reached his half-century in 33 balls, registering his third consecutive fifty of the tournament and joining Virat Kohli and Shahid Afridi as the only players to score fifties in both a T20 World Cup semifinal and final. India continued the assault, scoring another 24-run over off Lockie Ferguson as the team crossed the 150-run mark in 11.3 overs. Samson then struck Rachin Ravindra for three consecutive sixes in the 14th over. Ishan Kishan reached his half-century in 23 balls with three fours and four sixes, helping India cross the 200-run mark in the 15th over. The 105-run partnership between Samson and Kishan ended when Samson was caught at long-on off James Neesham after scoring 89. In the same over, Neesham dismissed Kishan for 54 and captain Suryakumar Yadav for a duck, briefly slowing India’s momentum. Hardik Pandya scored 18 off 13 balls before being dismissed by Matt Henry, leaving India at 226/5 in 18.2 overs. Shivam Dube then delivered a powerful finish, smashing three fours and two sixes off James Neesham in the final over to help India reach 255/5 in 20 overs, the highest total ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final. Mitchell Santner bowled an economical spell for New Zealand, conceding 33 runs in his four overs without taking a wicket, while James Neesham was the most successful bowler with figures of 3/46. Brief scores: India 255/5 in 20 overs (Sanju Samson 89, Ishan Kishan 54; James Neesham 3/46) beat New Zealand 159 in 19 overs (Tim Seifert 52, Mitchell Santner 43; Jasprit Bumrah 4/15).
