Speaking at an investment forum in Moscow on Tuesday, Putin said that the objective of the numerous joint projects in energy, industry, space, agriculture, and other sectors is to elevate the ties with Beijing and New Delhi. “We aim to elevate cooperation with the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of India to a qualitatively new level by strengthening its technological component. This is the objective of numerous joint projects in energy, industry, space, agriculture, and other sectors,” he said. Putin further said that he has established substantive dialogue on economic issues with Chinese President Xi Jinping and looks to continue the same with PM Modi during his visit. “We have established a substantive dialogue on economic issues with the President of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Xi Jinping. We will also discuss these topics in detail during the upcoming visit to India with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including increasing imports of Indian goods to our market,” he said. During his India visit, Putin will attend the 23rd IndiaRussia Annual Summit and hold talks with PM Modi. Earlier, Kremlin Spokesperson Dimitry Peskov said that the sale of additional S-400 longrange anti-aircraft missiles could be on the agenda during the visit. “Highly on the agenda and this could be discussed. Our military industry is working pretty well. Russian arms 36% in Indian armed forces and hopefully will continue,” Peskov said. Russia also hopes to discuss the possibility of India acquiring the Su57 fifth-generation stealth fighter. “SU-57 is the best plane in the world. SU57 will be on the agenda,” said Peskov. “As far as our cooperation in the defence industry goes, let’s remember famous Brahmos missiles. It’s not only just production or it’s not only acts of buying or selling, it’s exchange of high technologies, and it really paves the way for a bright future in this field of cooperation. We’re developing quite a variety of very complicated systems. And in this sense, of course, we have capabilities. We are ready to share this with our Indian friends, our experience,” he added. K r e m l i n Spokesperson Peskov also said that there was the possibility of an agreement on nuclear energy between India and Russia during the President’s visit. “There will be an offer for small reactor. Russia possesses important tech—small and flexible reactor. Russia has real experience in producing small reactors. We’re exchanging mutual investments, joint investments and it makes this kind of cooperation even more valuable for our countries, in terms for securing future of this country. “We were deeply involved in creating a sector of peaceful nuclear energy in India, in Kudankulam, and so we were hoping for the continuation of this project,” Peskov said. (ANI) Centre Announces Plans to Conduct Census 2027 in Two Phases New Delhi [India], December 2 (ANI): The Government of India has announced plans to conduct the Census in 2027, with the intent notified in the Gazette on June 16, 2025. The Census will be carried out in two phases: Phase I — House Listing and Housing Census, scheduled from April to September 2026, and Phase II — Population Enumeration, set for February 2027. The Population Enumeration will reference March 1, 2027, except in regions such as Ladakh and snow-bound areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, where it will be conducted in September 2026. Notably, caste enumeration will be included, following a decision by the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs on April 30, 2025. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said, “The Government has decided to conduct the Census in 2027. The intent of the Government for conducting the Census has been notified in the Gazette dated 16th June 2025. The Census 2027 will be conducted in two phases, namely Phase I — House Listing and Housing Census from April to September 2026 in a period of 30 days, as per the convenience of the State/UT Governments, followed by Phase II — Population Enumeration.” He added that Population Enumeration will be conducted in February 2027 with reference to March 1, 2027, except in Ladakh and snowbound non-synchronous areas, where it will be carried out in September 2026 with reference to October 1, 2026. A key feature of Census 2027 will be the inclusion of caste enumeration for the first time in over 70 years. It will also be India’s first digital census, with data collected through mobile applications, though paper schedules will remain available in areas with limited connectivity.

December 5, 2025 Friday India This Week Sharanjit Thind (R) Announces Run for Congress in New York’s 18th District Democrat-held CD18 in the Hudson Valley is flippable, insists the Indian American, who is using his extensive business and government experience to build a campaign to win the 2026 election. By Parveen Chopra Sharanjit Singh Thind filed his candidacy in September 2025 for the US House of Representatives from New York’s District 18 in the Hudson Valley. A lifelong Republican and Sikh born in Punjab, India, he believes this Democratheld seat is ready to flip. His campaign focuses on promoting business, making jobs AI-proof, defending family values, and prioritizing community safety. With extensive experience in both the private and public sectors, he is the best candidate to represent this district north of Manhattan. Thind says he has the blessing of the party’s establishment. Before filing his nomination papers in September, he met with New York Republican State Committee Chairman Ed Cox—son-in-law of President Nixon—to discuss the party’s support. At the time, Thind was told that there were no other Republican candidates in the fray and that the 18th Congressional District (CD-18) would be a strong place for him to run. “But, even with the best intentions and backing of the party leadership, primaries are unavoidable and even healthy,” he says. Thind describes himself as fully familiar with CD-18 and notes that he is in close contact with local party leadership, thanks to Chairman Cox. “I am getting a very enthusiastic response when I interact with constituents of all stripes and backgrounds,” he added. While agreeing that the incumbent, Patrick Ryan, defeated Alison Esposito (R) by 14 points in 2024, Thind points to a changed environment that would help him emerge victorious on November 3, the election day in 2026. “People were fed up seeing hotels and motels teeming with illegal migrants housed in the Hudson Valley under President Biden and Mayor Adams. Under Presdient Trump, that threat to law and order has been cleared.” The recent election of self-declared socialist and freebiespromising Zohran Mamdani as Mayor of New York City is worrying all, Thind claims. In sharp contrast are Trump’s America First, pro-business policies, which he supports as do most upstate New York voters. In the context, Thind talks passionately about what has made America the world’s largest economy and a magnet for the world’s best. The answer is: by putting business first. To do that, you have to know about business, which he does, having run media and real estate businesses. Appealing Policy Platform The policy platform Thind is building is solely to serve his constituents. “The biggest challenge in the coming months and years,” Thind projects, “is that many, many jobs will evaporate under the AI heat. I am not against AI or automation, but I will make the AI behemoth companies accountable, to make them funnel back some of their profits to retrain the retrenched workers.” Similarly, banks should be held accountable for the financial scams happening under their nose that upend so many seniors’ lives. Promoting tourism in the picturesque Hudson Valley is a nobrainer. “I will give tourism full attention to attract highpaying visitors and create jobs,” says Thind while pointing to a recent Netflix series, ‘Four Seasons’, which was shot there and stars Steve Carell and Tina Fey. With his business acumen and the region’s appeal, he is confident that more entertainment projects will follow. Thind can boast a rich resume that highlights his multifarious career. Armed with an MBA and a journalism degree, Thind arrived in America at the cusp of this century. Over the years, he worked for many reputed companies, founded his own ad agency in Manhattan, and has been Editor-Publisher of ‘The South Asian Insider’ for almost two decades. Recently, he became an author with “The Beginning – Mad Men of Nu Way Advertising,” highlighting his experience at the helm of the once-thriving ad agency on Madison Avenue. Experience in Government and Politics From 2012, he has worked with the government in one capacity or another. He served as a Commissioner on the Nassau County Human Rights Commission until 2018. He also worked with the Receiver of Taxes office in the Town of Hempstead, the largest township in America. In electoral politics, Thind has gained valuable experience helping others run for office. “From local councilman, mayoral to state senate and assembly to DA to Congress races, I have been very closely involved, spending long hours strategizing policy. I have helped raise and also personally contributed to the campaigns of quite a few races,” he says. Twice, he has received the Congressional Excellence award. Running for Congress, Thind insists, he also draws on the perspective he gained as an editor on how government is run and what needs to be done to fix what is broken. To kick-start his campaign, Thind will put his own money into it and seek support from small donors (the maximum individual contribution is $3,535). He clarifies that no government matching funds are available for Congressional races. Because CD18 is flippable and can help the GOP retain control of the House after 2026, Thind expects America-loving, likeminded individuals to help lift his campaign to victory. Thind owns a property in the Catskills and is in the process of signing a lease for a house in Saugerties, in Ulster County. He lives with his wife and two sons on Long Island. Thind’s appeal is straightforward: Elect a representative who will bring more jobs and protect those jobs from AI; bring more tourism to the Hudson Valley; expand healthcare benefits; protect family values; and pass laws to save senior citizens from scams. December 5, 2025 Friday India This Week Delhi Police files a new FIR against Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi in National Herald case New Delhi/ Bengaluru [India], November 30–December 2 (ANI): The National Herald money laundering case intensified over the weekend as the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) filed a fresh FIR naming several senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, prompting sharp political reactions from party leaders across the country. The new FIR, lodged after a complaint from the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) headquarters, includes six additional individuals besides the Gandhis. It comes as the Rouse Avenue Court once again deferred its decision on whether to take cognisance of the ED’s chargesheet under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The chargesheet lists Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda, Suman Dubey and others, with allegations of financial irregularities involving Associated Journals Ltd (AJL), the original publisher of the National Herald. The court, which is scheduled to deliver its order on December 16, reiterated that accused individuals have a “right to be heard” before cognisance is taken—an assurance grounded in Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Special Judge Vishal Gogne stated that the provision enhances transparency and fairness in proceedings and does not conflict with PMLA mandates. The court also noted that the predicate offence—under IPC Sections 403, 406, 420 and 120B—is already being tried at Rouse Avenue Court, and PMLA rules require both matters to be heard together. The National Herald case stems from a complaint filed by former MP Subramanian Swamy, who alleged misuse of funds by Congress leaders and entities linked to AJL. The filing of the new FIR triggered strong reactions from the Congress leadership. In a post on X, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of orchestrating a campaign of “harassment, intimidation, and vendetta” against the party’s top leadership. Calling the case “completely bogus,” Ramesh said, “Those who threaten are themselves insecure and afraid… Justice will ultimately triumph. Satyameva Jayate.” Echoing a similar sentiment, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar accused the Centre of pursuing “political vendetta” and misusing investigative agencies to target Rahul Gandhi. Addressing the media at Vidhana Soudha on Monday, he asserted that the National Herald was a party asset, not the private property of any Congress leader. “ N a t i o n a l Herald isn’t the personal property of Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi. He was a shareholder only by virtue of being president,” Shivakumar said, adding that party presidents historically held such positions and relinquished shares when they left office. He also cited decisions by former leaders, including former Prime Minister Morarji Desai, taken in the institution’s interest. “Rahul Gandhi will not be bothered even if he is put in jail, but vendetta politics is not good. Let’s fight elections directly—don’t misuse agencies to torture political opponents,” he added. Shivakumar also clarified internal political speculation, stating that he and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah were “working together as brothers” and coordinating on an As political temperatures rise, all eyes are now on December 16, when the court is set to decide on taking cognisance of the ED’s chargesheet in the long-running National Herald case. SIR stir to continue in Parliament, INDIA bloc to protest outside Makar Dwar New Delhi [India], December 2 (ANI): Opposition parties are set to intensify their protests in Parliament and outside its gates on Tuesday as the controversy over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the Centre’s new mandate on the Sanchar Saathi mobile application continues to escalate. On the second day of the Winter Session, MPs of the INDIA bloc will stage a demonstration outside the Makar Dwar at 10:30 am, demanding an immediate debate on the SIR process that is currently underway across 12 States and Union Territories. The Lok Sabha had already witnessed repeated adjournments on Monday amid loud protests and sloganeering by the Opposition, who accuse the government of conducting the revision exercise in a rushed and arbitrary manner. Congress MP Manickam Tagore said the bloc has unanimously decided to demand a detailed discussion on the SIR. “This is about the fundamental right to vote. In Bihar alone, 62 lakh voters have been removed. BLOs are under extreme pressure—some are taking their own lives. We need a full debate in Parliament. Democracy must be protected,” he said. C o n g r e s s MP Digvijaya Singh also criticised the SIR, comparing its documentation requirements to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). “This is not the traditional SIR that verified voters through door-todoor checks. This is CAA in disguise. People are being asked to prove citizenship. We object strongly,” he said. The Opposition To Place Advertisements Call: 301-917-4800/301-445-00200 Email: indiathisweekads@gmail.com www.indiathisweek.us is simultaneously raising concerns over the Department of Te l e c o m m u n i c a t i o n s ’ recent directive mandating the pre-installation of the Sanchar Saathi app on all mobile handsets. Congress MP KC Venugopal called the move “unconstitutional” and a “dystopian tool of surveillance,” invoking George Orwell’s 1984. “A pre-loaded government app that cannot be uninstalled is an attempt to monitor every movement and interaction of citizens. Big Brother cannot watch us,” Venugopal wrote on X, demanding an immediate rollback. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi echoed the criticism, calling it another “Big Boss surveillance moment” and vowed public protests against the directive. The DoT, however, maintains that the app is intended to protect citizens by verifying handset authenticity, preventing fraud, and enabling reporting of lost or misused devices. Manufacturers have 90 days to comply and 120 days to file a compliance report. Inside Parliament, the Opposition’s pushback continued with multiple adjournment motions submitted in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Manickam Tagore, KC Venugopal, and Kanyakumari MP Vijay Vasanth each filed notices urging the immediate suspension of the SIR exercise, citing voter-roll errors, extreme workload on BLOs, public confusion, and reported deaths of field staff. Tagore described the revision as “an unprecedented crisis,” Venugopal called it “arbitrary and poorly planned,” and Vasanth warned that the chaos could erode trust in India’s electoral system. Meanwhile, BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi criticised the Opposition for “creating ruckus over baseless issues,” asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had rightly urged MPs to work constructively. She said the Opposition should learn lessons from the Bihar election results. As protests continue, the Lok Sabha is scheduled to take up the Central Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2025, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman set to introduce changes aimed at raising excise duties and cess on tobacco products. With tensions rising both inside and outside Parliament, the second day of the Winter Session is expected to witness continued disruptions, heated exchanges, and ongoing Opposition demonstrations over electoral reform and privacy concerns. Political parties agreed that the Lok Sabha will function smoothly from Wednesday onwards, following consensus on the schedule for key discussions. The meeting decided that the Lok Sabha will hold a discussion on the 150th anniversary of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ from 12 noon on Monday, December 8, and a discussion on election reforms from 12 noon on Tuesday, December 9. The agreement resolved the opposition’s persistent demand for a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which had led to multiple adjournments over the past two days. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed the decisions in a post on X, noting that the consensus would enable the House to function without disruption. He also reiterated the government’s readiness to discuss election reforms, emphasizing that SIR is an administrative matter under the purview of the Election Commission. Rijiju later said he expected “constructive and engaging” discussions during the session. He added that broader reforms concerning the Election Commission and electoral processes must be debated comprehensively rather than focusing narrowly on administrative issues. Sources said the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) has allocated 10 hours for the discussion on the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to initiate the debate. Another 10 hours have been set aside for the discussion on election reforms, with Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal expected to reply to the debate on Wednesday. The winter session, which began on Monday, saw three adjournments on the first day and further disruptions on Tuesday as the Opposition pressed its demand for an immediate discussion on SIR. However, floor leaders agreed on Tuesday evening that the House would run smoothly from Wednesday. In the Rajya Sabha, Opposition parties staged a walkout demanding an urgent discussion on SIR. The issue had previously dominated the monsoon session, which was largely washed out due to similar demands. Rijiju also took a swipe at the Opposition following its recent defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, saying that “taking out anger over this defeat in Parliament is not right.” He urged members to maintain discipline and not compromise House proceedings for the sake of a single issue. We Aim to Achieve Rs 3 Lakh Crore Defence Production and Rs 50,000 Crore Defence Exports by 2029: Rajnath Singh V a d o d a r a (Gujarat) [India], December 2 (ANI): India is setting its sights on becoming a global defense manufacturing hub with a target of achieving defense production worth Rs 3 lakh crore and defense exports worth Rs 50,000 crore by 2029, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said. Speaking at the Sardar Sabha in Vadodara, Gujarat, on Tuesday, he outlined the government’s roadmap for building a self-reliant and robust defense ecosystem. “Today, due to the ‘Make in India’ initiative, we are becoming Aatmanirbhar in defense production while exporting military equipment to friendly countries. Our defense exports have increased nearly 34-fold in the last 11 years. We aim to achieve defense production worth Rs 3 lakh crore and defense exports worth Rs 50,000 crore by 2029,” he said. The event was held as part of the Unity March organized by Mera Yuva (MY) Bharat under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. According to a Ministry of Defence press release, Rajnath Singh said that the government is carrying forward the national security vision of Sardar Patel, who long emphasized the importance of modernizing the armed forces and promoting indigenous weapon production. Commending the Indian Armed Forces, Rajnath Singh said the success of Operation Sindoor demonstrated the courage and professionalism of Indian soldiers. He noted that the world now recognizes the bravery and strength of India’s military. “We are a peace-loving nation which never provokes any country, but if provoked, we do not spare those who try to cast an evil eye,” he asserted. Governor of Punjab Gulab Chand Kataria, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami, Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Labour & Employment Shobha Karandlaje, and state government officials were present on the occasion. UIDAI Records 8.47% YoY Growth With 231 Crore Aadhaar Authentication Transactions in November New Delhi [India], December 2 (ANI): India’s digital systems reached a new high in November 2025 as Aadhaar number holders executed 231 crore authentication transactions, marking an 8.47 percent increase over the same month last year, according to a Ministry of Electronics & IT press release. This became the highest monthly tally of the current financial year and highlighted the widespread use of Aadhaar across services and welfare programs. The month’s sharp rise surpassed the 219.51 crore transactions recorded in October. The ministry noted that the steady growth demonstrated how Aadhaar functions as a key tool for people to receive benefits and voluntarily access services offered by different providers. The increase pointed to a stronger reliance on digital identity systems for everyday needs across the country. A major driver of the surge came from face authentication, a feature that continued to gain users. Nearly 60 percent of all Digital Life Certificates issued to pensioners in November used Aadhaar’s face authentication tool. The system, which works on both Android and iOS devices, allows users to confirm their identity with a simple face scan while maintaining strong security protocols. Face authentication transactions rose to 28.29 crore in November 2025, up from 12.04 crore a year earlier. Growth also continued in e-KYC, another Aadhaar-linked service widely used by banks and financial institutions. November recorded 47.19 crore e-KYC transactions, an increase of more than 24 percent compared with November 2024. “Aadhaar e-KYC service continues to be a catalyst in improving customer experience and adding ease of doing business in sectors including banking and nonbanking financial services,” the ministry said.
