INTRODUCTION ABOUT UNIVERSITY Punjab Technical University (PTU) was established in 1997 under The Punjab Technical University Act, 1996 (Punjab Act No. 1 of 1997). Its mandate was to advance technical education and development in the state of Punjab. Initially, PTU embarked on its journey with 9 engineering colleges and a handful of management institutions under its affiliation. Recognizing the importance of knowledge and skills in enhancing employability, PTU actively contributes to the technological growth and development of Punjab. We regularly update our courses to meet international standards, consulting with industry experts, researchers, and academia. HISTORY In profound reverence, we commemorate the life of Budh Singh Dhahan, an eminent luminary within the annals of our organization's heritage. His departure on April 20, 2018, reverberated through our collective consciousness, leaving an indelible mark upon our hearts. Published within the venerable pages of The Globe and Mail and The Vancouver Sun, his obituary stands as a testament to his enduring legacy, capturing the essence of his remarkable journey and the profound impact he wrought upon all fortunate enough to have crossed his path. Late. Sardar Budh Singh Dhahan Budh Singh Dhahan provided outstanding community leadership that has contributed to education, social and economic development, and health care in both Canada and India during a lifetime of dedicated service. He was known for his vision, persistence, sense of social responsibility, and for his exemplary skills as an entrepreneur, peacemaker and bridge builder among many diverse groups. Born and raised in rural India in a Punjabi Sikh family, Dhahan’s early years were characterized by a strong sense of community ideals that led to a growing desire to improve the lives of people around him. Although his formal education did not extend beyond Grade 8, his entire adult life was committed to education in the broadest sense. As a young man in the aftermath of the 1947 partition between India and Pakistan, he helped to provide safe passage to people forced to leave for Pakistan while assisting the dislocated refugees from Pakistan to settle and receive proper land allotments in the Indian Punjab. He mobilized people and resources to build shelters, schools, Sikh temples and worked actively on social and political causes to ensure a better community life. He fought for greater autonomy for Punjab within India and for equal language rights for Punjabi. During the 1950s he served as Akali Dal’s (political party) ’Jathedar’ (head organizer) for the Jalandhar District, vice-president of the Punjab Peace Council and executive member of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. In these years he was jailed six times for brief periods as a political prisoner. 6
