Interim Head of School - ELT & Foundation Learning I’m the interim Head of School for ESOL here at HRUC. Although I’ve only been part of this department for a short time, I have already seen what a special group of learners you are. This yearbook is a celebration of your journey, and I’m honoured to write a few words to mark this important moment. Over the past few years, you’ve worked hard to improve your English, build your confidence, and prepare for the next steps in your education. Whether it was speaking, listening or reading in class, improving your writing, or helping a classmate, every e ort you made has helped you grow. You should be proud of how far you’ve come. Now, as you move on to new courses and new challenges, remember that learning a language is a powerful achievement. It opens doors, builds bridges, and gives you a voice. Keep using your English, keep asking questions, and never stop believing in what you can do. You are ready for what comes next. In my short time in the ESOL department, I have come across so many young people who are polite, respectful, and full of potential. One thing that always stands out is how students greet sta with a warm “Hello, sir / miss” or “Hello, teacher.” It may seem like a small thing, but it creates a welcoming and positive atmosphere that makes a big di erence. It shows the kind of community we’re building together. As you turn the page to a new chapter, take with you the friendships, the lessons, and the pride in what you’ve achieved. We’ll be cheering you on as you continue your journey. “The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.” – B.B. King

ESOL Lecturer It has been an absolute pleasure having you as my first young learners’ class this year. Each and every one of you has made incredible progress, and I couldn’t be prouder. You’ve achieved so much—successfully passing your reading, writing, speaking, and listening exams, earning your science and maths qualifications, and completing your work experience. You’ve worked brilliantly together in class, maintained the highest attendance, stayed focused, and put in so much hard work. It has truly been a privilege to teach you. I’ve learned a great deal from watching you grow—from shy individuals into confident speakers, and from working independently to supporting and uplifting one another. We’ve created so many wonderful memories together—from weekly birthday celebrations to Eid festivities, and finally, our end-of-year party. These moments will stay with me for a long time. I pray that Allah continues to guide, support, and bless you in all your future endeavours. I will miss you all dearly!

Student When I first walked into college in September, I felt a bit lost. Everything was new, the faces were unfamiliar, and I didn’t know what to expect. I was nervous and confused, but deep inside I knew I had potential—I just needed time to grow. As the weeks went by, things began to change. I started to feel more confident, I made friends and slowly found my place. The lessons became easier to understand, and the support from my teachers helped me believe in myself more and more. One of the best parts of this journey was the memories we made outside the classroom. We celebrated birthdays, shared our di erent cultures, and honoured our traditions together. Those moments brought us closer as a group and made college feel like a second home. This year, I also had the chance to do work experience, which was a big step for me. It gave me a real insight into the working world and helped me improve my confidence, communication, and professionalism. I’m proud of how far I’ve come. Becoming a class rep was another moment. It showed that others believed in me, and it gave me a chance to help and guide my classmates, which I truly enjoyed. I learned how to lead, support others, and stay responsible. When exam time came, I stayed focused, studied hard, and gave it my all. And all

Now as we near the end of the year, I feel emotional but proud. This journey was more than just education—it was about finding my voice, discovering my strengths, and growing as a person. I’m looking forward to doing a high level in IT next year, and I know this is only the beginning of something even greater. This has been a wonderful journey full of challenges, laughter, learning, and unforgettable memories.

Student This year at Uxbridge College, I improved my English, math, and science skills. At first, I was shy to speak English, but with practice in class and during group activities, I became more confident and comfortable. In English, I learned how to write emails and understand texts better. In math, I developed problem-solving skills. In science, I understood more about experiments and how to ask questions. Talking with teachers and classmates helped me speak more fluently. I now feel more confident using English. Next year, I will study IT Level 2.

Student My Journey from Beginner to Future Pilot** When I started at Uxbridge College last year, my English was weak—I could only say basic words. Now, after ESOL Level 1, I feel much more confident! At first, understanding fast English was hard, I was shy to speak, made grammar mistakes, and found airport announcements confusing. To improve, I watched cartoons with subtitles, listened to simple podcasts, practiced speaking with classmates, read children’s books and newspapers, and wrote short daily diaries. My dream is to become a pilot! To achieve this, I need to improve my English (especially aviation terms and accents), study math, physics, and geography, stay healthy with exercise and good food, and learn about flying by visiting airports and talking to pilots. I’ve learned that small daily progress matters, mistakes help you learn, and good teachers make a di erence. I’m excited for the future! First, I’ll finish my English studies, then work toward flight school. One day, I’ll fly worldwide! To other students: Don’t give up! If I can go from zero English to chasing my pilot dream, so can you. Keep going! *The sky is not the limit—it’s where my future begins!*

Student Started college in September and it’s been a smooth, easy-going year. I settled in quickly and everything just flowed from there. The work’s been light and manageable, and the days have gone by without much stress. It’s been simple in the best way. Nothing overwhelming, just steady and clear. I’ve mostly kept to myself, and that’s been fine. The year went by fast, and even though I wasn’t close with many people, it was still nice being around everyone.
