Bulletin Volume 13 October 2025 Anglesey Place Shaping is recognised by UK Government! Medrwn Môn and Anglesey Council's Place Shaping Programme has been included as a case study an example of good practice in the UK Government’s Civil Society Covenant, which was launched on the 17th July. The Covenant provides the opportunity to reset relationships between government and civil society, following calls from the Prime Minister for a ‘fundamental reset’ in how civil society and government work together. The CEO of WCVA Lindsay Cordery-Bruce welcomed the opportunity to build a more open, collaborative and respectful partnership across all nations of the UK. For us in Wales, the Covenant represents a step forward in how we engage with UK Government on matters that are not devolved to Welsh Government. From social security to justice, immigration to foreign policy, human rights to employment rights, and the impact of UK Government decisions is felt by communities in every part of the country. That is why a clearer framework for engaging with the UK Government is long overdue. This is why the new Covenant matters. It is a great honour for the work of Medrwn Môn to be recognised at not only local and regional levels but also at a UK Government level and we are proud of the work being done in our communities to involve communities. The Alliances are crucial to this way of working and are leading the way in developing resourceful communities who are making real and sustainable differences locally! is a huge success! Medrwn Môn and BCU Health Board came together to create a Health and wellbeing Village! Well that was a success! We knew that working together with BCUHB was important but having us all together in one tent was fantastic, and something we will be doing more of in the future. Many of the health services provided by BCUHB are located within the community and the support of the voluntary sector is a big part of their services when you are looking at the wellbeing of a person. Whether you are looking at lifestyle programs such as preparing for an operation or support for mental heath, the voluntary sector can support medical professionals with community interventions. Interventions such as walk and talk groups, woodland activities, exercise groups, self help tools and one to one support from Social Prescribers, can really help a person while receiving a medical service. Thank you to the organisers, the amazing organisations who joined us in the Wellbeing Tent to share their projects, and of course to everyone who stopped by to say hello. We’d also like to give special thanks to Beaumaris Town Council for loaning us the tent, ASDA Llangefni for donating water to keep us all hydrated, Bwyd Da Môn for supplying us with fruit, and Môn Actif for allowing us to use part of their plot.
As well as the Wellbeing Village Tent, Medrwn Môn was also at the show with the information bus. Staff spoke to hundreds of people across the 2 days about all the services we offer and how people can get involved in volunteering, find out about funding available to local groups and how to become involved in their local Alliances. We were joined by some of our Board members across the two days and even had a visit from Welsh former rugby union and rugby league player Scott Quinnell! The Anglesey Show is the only time in the year where all our staff team are together out of the office! It gives us the chance to speak to other community and volunteer led organisations, invite people to come and chat to staff and board members they would normally get the chance to meet! Over the two days children and young people were also able to take part in activities linked to the 5 Ways to Wellbeing including making badges and colouring competitions. Once again we would like to thank all the staff and volunteers involved in organising the show! we look forward to seeing you all there again next year! Planning for the Future! Medrwn Môn launches its Strategic Plan 2025-28! The Board have been extremely busy developing its strategic plan for the next 3 years! “We have transitioned into an important and exciting time as an Organisation, having restructured both our staff and Board, and a recent move to our new offices in the Anglesey Business Centre. We now have the opportunity to plan for both core and project services for 3 years. The Strategic Plan is our principal strategy document. It will influence and inform our strategies and plan for provision those services over the next three years and will provide us with the stability and time to ensure that we are able to build on our offer of support for communities, community groups and organisations across the Island. We will also build on our successes in continuing to develop our award-winning social prescribing service, our much acknowledged Place Shaping programme in partnership with Anglesey County Council and our efforts in building an Organisation where staff continue to thrive”. Chair, Andrew Mark Hughes (Amlwch All Abilities)
Rural Anglesey In July Sheree from Medrwn Môn was pleased to work on the a joint networking event with Lisa Hother, the Engagement officer for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. This was a dedicated event that focused on Men’s Health and Wellbeing in Rural Anglesey. Anglesey is renown for its construction/agricultural, male dominated work that is physically and mentally demanding. Men in rural areas often face unique challenges related to health and wellbeing. One visitor stated that he had not seen a medical professional for 47 years. The event provided individuals with valuable insights, practical strategies, and resources designed to support men’s physical and mental health. There was a range of experts on hand that support health issues affecting men in rural communities, from free health checks to advice on health conditions. And also a varied range of wellbeing activities provided by the voluntary sector in the community, from exercise groups to groups that provide support fathers. It was great to hear the personal stories from our guest speakers: Jim Lee from Nifty 60s, who shared how the group has grown from only having one group in Holyhead to now having the classes across the island. Aled from Syt Mae Dad? - gave a moving presentation about how Syt Mae Dad was established, and the valuable support they continue to deliver. Callum and Christy fom Menstribe- shared their personal stories — the real reasons behind why Mentribe started and their own battles with mental health, what they do now and how they want to grow their mission across Wales. Tristian from YEM - It was a real pleasure to share updates on YEM’s newly formed organisations and how they aim to support the community in tackling mental health challenges by confidence building, resilience, life direction, mindset, motivation, and more. We would like to thank all 28 participants and the 14 voluntary and health groups that attended, we look forward to working with you all again in the future. You can click Here to see the video 🙂
RAF Families Day 2025 The RAF Families Day, held at RAF Valley on August 8th, was a celebration of the unified efforts of the Whole Force at RAF Valley and an opportunity to engage with families that support personnel working at our station. The flying displays were hugely popular and there was much more to see including classic cars, children’s fairground rides, food stalls from Anglesey and North Wales. ô The event organiser, Wing Commander Penny Butterfield, said “We were delighted with the success of this important date in the RAF Valley Social Calendar that offers a unique occasion to host our families who are key to the success of our core business”. Medrwn Môn attended with the bus and shared lots of information about services and volunteering opportunities locally. Thank you to everyone that came over to chat about the work that we do and how we can support local communities. Relational Conversations Training People deal with multiple different issues in their everyday lives. Often, these boil down to a few core problems (e.g. financial instability due to the Cost of Living crisis). However, often the underlying issues may show up in different ways, making it difficult to fully understand what the underlying problem is, and how you can support them. Medrwn Môn partnered up with Basis to deliver a useful training session to help Volunteers and staff from the Third Sector. The training explains how to unpick and uncover what makes a good relational conversation, learn some principles behind it and get some practice having these conversations differently, and maybe a little bit better OR refer them on to someone in your community who you know can really help. Feedback received from all participants was positive, 100% of participants rated the course as excellent or good. “The training was great, the exercise where we stopped the conversation and re-wrote the script was so much fun but very useful in my role as a volunteer in my community.” Join us for the next Relational Conversation Training in November!
across the Island! This summer Medrwn Môn was lucky to be invited to take part in family fun days to promote our work with families, children & young people. Môn Actif - Isgraig Fun Festival - A fantastic day with the Môn Actif team. It was great to see so many families attend, with lots of games and activities. While the children were being entertained, Medrwn Môn took this opportunity to discuss the effects of Child Poverty with the parents of the children who attended to gain their input on what should be included in the Welsh Governments Child Poverty Strategy. Llangefni Rugby Club - National Play Day. We attended Anglesey County Councils National Play Day. It was a good chance to meet other organisations and community members. There were also activities for the children to take part in. Sharing information and making people more aware of how we can support families on the Island was our intentions. Gwelfor Funday - The day gave an opportunity for families to get together to play with jigsaws, colouring, board games and the parachute, where the adults and children were having lots of fun! The day was organised by the Anglesey Council Community Cohesion Team and saw a number of families socialising with each other during the Summer holidays. Refreshment were also provided. 3D Family Funday - This gave families of children who have disabilities a chance to come together, share experiences and become their own support network. There was also lots of accessible activities, such as soft play, fancy dress, sensory stalls and arts and crafts for the children to enjoy in a safe environment, while their parents/carers/siblings could socialise together. Medrwn Môn spoke to many families about the Social Prescribing Project ‘Môn Community Link’ and how we support people of all ages. To find out more about the support Link provides visit our website.
Third Sector News Cybi Youth Hub set for launch in September! We have been working with the Cybi Youth Hub Committee to find funding to purchase the Mandarin Royale building in Holyhead. The Cybi Youth Hub project looks to create a vibrant, inclusive and safe space for the young people of Holyhead. With a unique focus on music and family activities, the hub will look at providing activities that will help to reduce the impacts of anti-social behaviour in the Town. Partners to the project include North Wales Police, Eagle House and Anglesey County Council Youth Services. The project has secured over £500,000 to include the purchase of the building and running costs and staff for 3 years. Local Councillor and Chair of the committee Susan McGinn announced that ‘We are absolutely delighted to share some wonderful news… after 2 long years of hard work securing funding, we will finally be getting the keys to our new hub this Friday! This has only been made possible thanks to the incredible support from the Welsh Government, Dafydd Edwards (Cynllun), The National Lottery, WCVA, Dewi Lloyd (IOACC), Holyhead Town Council, and Medrwn Mon. What’s going on in your area? Bodowyr - In partnership with the Alliance, Medrwn Môn facilitated a meeting with Community Transport Wales to look at how transport within the Ward could be improved, especially in Llanddaniel. A meeting was held at Yr Efail and local residents attended and discussed possible solutions. Following on from this the group is in discussion with the Local Authority to see how they can work together to support the residents experiencing transport issues. They are looking at piloting a community “bus” service for 3 months, having use of the electric vehicle from the Holyhead Good Turn Scheme.
