Or you walk into a shop for the first time and in addition to being welcomed like an old friend, find you just want to keep on exploring a fascinating collection of collectables, art and gifts. That is the Vimutti experience, the latest addition to Fore Street. The name means 'freedom of thought' and this intriguing shop is run by long-time friends Sean and Dean. If you are looking for something unique to enhance your home, a retro gift or just want to chill while listening to music, then this is the place for you. There really isn’t another store like it in Torbay.
modern and retro hi-fi equipment (Sean can you give you excellent advice). In tribute to the Record shops of the 1980’s, you can also relax in a chair with headphones on as you listen to your favourite musical memories. It’s not an ‘Art Gallery’, although there are some gorgeous paintings on the walls (Dean is the Artist and they are already selling fast). It’s also not a cafe, although you can get a coffee and sit for a comfortable chat. It does have a lovely collection of natural stone jewellery – did you know that natural stone is cold to the touch but gets warm when you wear it? It does have an excellent collection of antiques, collectibles and one-of-a-kind sculptural lamps. It is a lovely place to visit and spend time. This is a store that’s impossible to describe or label, you simply must go there and see for yourself.
START SUCH AN UNUSUAL STORE? • The guys are totally relaxed as they describe the journey that bought them to Brixham. Both are single fathers, both left careers in London to provide a better life for their families by the coast. Sean has been living here for 25 years, and Dean is a relative newcomer as he arrived 22 years ago. • Dean is a cancer survivor, and Sean overcame a heart attack, both have worked hard to find a more positive way to live life, and as Sean said laughing, both are kleptomaniacs. • This store is an answer to tough times and neither of them are shy about admitting that they needed to radically change their physical environment and mental attitudes as they entered their 60’s. They want to create a place to welcome people that need a break from a hectic day. As Dean says “it's all about community”
• Sean explains that they’ve both gone through career changes. He’s the 5th generation of builders in his family and loves anything electrical. • Dean’s family have been antique dealers for decades and he used to have an antiques stall in Covent Garden. • They both worked as builders until health issues forced them to re-evaluate their lives. They’ve described themselves as ‘worn out builders’ although looking at how beautifully they’ve created their new shop, there’s life in them yet!

IDEA BEHIND YOUR SHOP • Sean explains that they’d been talking about the shop for the past two years but its only in the last 6 months that they started taking action. For Dean this is the fruition of a 30-year dream. Both are delighted with the location in the heart of the town and are looking forward to building their own customer community. • In line with their own laid-back vibe, Vimutti not only offers a place to shop but also to relax. You can buy a chilled-out coffee or sit in their chill-booth with headphones to listen to music or even read a book. • If you have something interesting that you’d like to swap for something in the shop, then please pop in and have a chat – they'll operate a ‘swap-shop’ where you can both agree the value of the item and then make up any difference. • Whether you are looking for an awesome gift, information on hi-fi or one of the items in the shop - or just want to pop in to relax over a cup of coffee, you’ll be made very welcome.
