March 14, 2025 Friday INDIA THIS WEEK “Govt committed to Tamil language...at times you have to be multilingual”: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan New Delhi [India], March 11 (ANI): Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has taken the fight to the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu on the three-language policy and the NEP. In a post on X the Minister alleged that raking the language issue was a diversionary tactic from MK Stalin. “I stand by my statement made in the Parliament and am sharing the consent letter from Tamil Nadu School Education Department dated 15th March 2024. DMK MPs and Hon’ble CM can stack lies as high as they want, but the truth does not bother knocking when it comes crashing down. The DMK dispensation led by Hon’ble CM Stalin have a lot to answer to the people of Tamil Nadu. Raking the language issue as a diversionary tactic and denying facts as per their convenience will not shield their governance and welfare deficit,” he posted on X. Earlier while speaking in the Rajya Sabha the Union Education Minister lashed out at the opposition for claiming that the government wants to divide society while using languages and said that the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will never use language to do such “sin.” “There are certain things going on, let me first clarify in my Odia society Lord Jagganath is everybody. The king of Puri is not a king but a philosopher kind of person. He is the living deity to everyone. My king married to the Queen of Kanchi. My mother is from Tamil Nadu. I am the son of a Tamil Nadu lady. Another House yesterday, In my society mother and sisters are above everything. If I hurt anybody if any of my words, I beg an apology. PM Modi has always mentioned the Tamil language is an ancient language. The Tamil language is nobody’s monopoly. We are committed to the Tamil language. Truth is always painful,” Pradhan said in the Rajya Sabha. P r a d h a n mentioned his conversation with Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murthy and said that nobody is imposing anything on anyone. “I asked Sudha Murthy ji how many languages you know? In reply, she said by birth she is a Kannadiga, by profession she learned English, by practice, she learned Sanskrit, Hindi, Odia, Telegu and Marathi. What is wrong in that? Who is imposing on Sudha Murthyji to learn this language? Nobody is imposing anything on anyone. This is a democratic society and at times you must be multilingual,” he added. Pradhan also said that for the first time, NEP provisions seamless transfer of toddlers from Angandvadi play schools to a common curriculum framework with collaboration from the Health, Women and Child Development and Education Department. He further said that the Central Government would take the country forward along with Tamil Nadu. “You can call me a fool, but you cannot make fool of all the Tamil Nadu people all the time. You can abuse me, you can scold me, I am ready to accept but for God’s sake don’t be so dramatic. Please come out of the old ideas. We all must come together and build a new country,” he asserted. Earlier today, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin firmly rejected the National Education Policy (NEP) and expressed his concerns about the central government’s pressure tactics and their potential negative impact on Tamil Nadu‘s education system. “In the name of National Education Policy, they impose policies with the intention to destroy “Will provide Rs 1 lakh financial assistance to all brides under Mukhyamantri Samoohik Vivah Yojana”: CM Yogi Jaunpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], March 12 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday announced that Rs 1 lakh each will be provided as financial assistance to all brides under the ‘Mukhyamantri Samoohik Vivah Yojana‘ and said that the mass marriage programme provides new heights to ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’. By participating in the ‘Mukhyamantri Samoohik Vivah Yojana‘ in Jaunpur, CM Yogi said, “I congratulate the couples and the families. I have got an opportunity to join this. In the state, 1 crore 86 lakh people having connections under Ujjwala Yojana have been given free cylinders. There is a limit to development. This is required. The doubleengine government is working towards it,” CM Yogi said. The UP CM said that the state government’s goal is to raise the standard of living of those living below the poverty line. “The next Financial Year starting April, we will give Rs 1 lakh each as financial assistance to all brides under the ‘Mukhyamantri Samoohik Vivah Yojana‘. Academically gifted girl students will be given scooties. To achieve our goal of zero poverty, and to raise the standard of living of those living below the poverty line, the government has decided that all poor and marginalised in all the villages of the state will be provided benefits under the government schemes which have not been able to reach them so far,” he added. Chief Minister Yogi said that the state government is going to make Jaunpur a smart city. “We are going to Jaunpur, a smart city. All the problems would be solved. There is no dearth of funds nowadays, but we just need to utilise them properly. The roads have become so good in Jaunpur. People of Mungra Badshahpur would say to me that there should be a bypass there, that the work of land acquisition has started. The work of NH is going on. 17 flyovers were approved for the Jaunpur area,” he said. He further indirectly attacked the Opposition for questioning the cleanliness of the Maha Kumbh 2025 and said they continuously relied on spreading negativity, which became our primary tool. “The negative propaganda and misinformation that was spread had no impact on the faith of the people of the country. Your attempts to spread negativity were unsuccessful. I have said this earlier also: ‘Jiski jaisi drishti waisi uski srishti’... They were finding ways to defame Prayagraj,” CM Yogi said. The Maha Kumbh 2025 concluded on the education in Tamil Nadu fully. We will not accept the National Education Policy. I repeat, not only Rs 2000 crores, even if you give 100,000 crores, we will not accept this hazardous NEP scheme,” Stalin said. ON Monday, a war of words broke out between Dharmendra Pradhan and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam after Pradhan termed the Tamil Nadu government as “dishonest” and the people of the state as “uncivilised”. “They (DMK) are dishonest. They are not committed to the students of Tamil Nadu. They are ruining the future of Tamil Nadu students. Their only job is to raise language barriers. They are doing politics. They are making mischief. They are undemocratic and uncivilised,” Pradhan said. Earlier today, DMK MPs staged a protest outside Parliament against the three-language policy The controversy stems from the ongoing debate over the National Education Policy (NEP), particularly the contentious three-language policy, which Tamil Nadu strongly opposes. While addressing a press briefing on Tuesday (local time), she said that US President Donald Trump believes in reciprocity and wants to have fair and balanced trade practices. The Press Secretary also accused Canada of “ripping off” the US and Americans “for decades” with its “egregious” rate of tariffs. Being asked about the timeline for Trump speaking to Canada‘s Prime Minister-designate Mark Carney, Leavitt responded, “The president is again responding to the fact that Canada has been ripping off the United States of America and hardworking Americans for decades. If you look at the rates of tariffs across the board that Canadians have been imposing on the American people and our workers here, it is egregious.” Leavitt further mentioned the tariffs imposed by India and Japan on different US products. She added that today the US has a President who “actually looks out” for the interests of American businesses and workers. “In fact, I have a handy dandy chart here that shows not just Canada but the rate of tariffs across the board. If you look at Canada since you brought it up American cheese and butter nearly 300 per cent tariff. You look at India, 150 per cent tariff on American alcohol. Do you think that’s helping Kentucky bourbon be exported into India? I don’t think so. 100 per cent tariff on agricultural products from India,” Leavitt said. “Look at Japan, tariffing rice, 700 per cent. President Trump believes in reciprocity and it is about...time that we have a president who actually looks out for the interests of American businesses and workers. And all he’s asking for at the end of the day are fair and balanced trade practices and unfortunately, Canada has not been treating us very fairly at all over the past several decades,” she added. On Sunday, US President Donald Trump said that tariffs against neighbouring countries Mexico and Canada could go higher in the future, Fox News reported. He added that the global community has been ripping off the US for ages. “I think [the business community could see clarity on tariffs],” he said, addressing CEOs’ desire to see predictability for Capital Expenditure spending and shareholder purposes. “But the tariffs could go up as time goes by, and they may go up...” he added, as per Fox News.”For years, globalists have been ripping off the United States. They’ve been taking money away from the United States, and all we’re doing is getting some of it back, and we’re going to treat our country fairly,” Fox News quoted Trump as saying. Trump said that the US would get back at the other countries for the same, as per Fox News. “This country has been ripped off from every nation in the world, every company in the world. We’ve been ripped off at levels never seen before, and what we’re going to do is get it back,” he said. Trump has imposed tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China, citing the countries’ alleged border control issues leading to fentanyl pouring into the US and killing American citizens, Fox News reported. Earlier on March 7, Trump delayed tariffs on Mexico and Canada for a short-term period for certain products before the “big one” from April 2. He said he agreed after having “fruitful conversations” with Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum while he slammed Canada for being a “high tariff nation”. Last week, Trump attacked India‘s tariffs, saying it is “next to impossible to sell anything to India” because of the “high tariffs.” In a nationally televised address, Trump focused on the tariffs his administration will be putting in effect soon. However, he also revealed that India has agreed to slash its tariffs significantly, allegedly because “somebody is finally exposing them for what they have done.” In his remarks at the White House, Trump stated, “India charges us massive tariffs. Massive. You can’t even sell anything in India...They have agreed, by the way; they want to cut their tariffs way down now because somebody is finally exposing them for what they have done.” (ANI)
