STORY STONES Intended for Kindergarten literacy development, Story Stones is an activity used to gain better vocabulary and storytelling skills. Through creative and visual prompts, students will understand storytelling in correlation to the narrative at play. 1 MATERIALS 1. Smooth surfaced stones 2. Non-toxic paint and markers 3. Papers and pencils 2
1. 2. 3 Introduce Story Telling through your own story! a. Pick up a souvenir or object that you have and tell your own story with such. b. EXAMPLE- I have a Pen that has a Peruvian logo. I will tell a story of how I got the pen in Peru and specifically where at. Transition a. Allow a smooth transition to occur from your storytelling to instructions on this activity! b. EXAMPLE- Okay now I have some stones that you are going to paint! But first you are going to think of a story in your head and then paint a representation of the story on the stone! For instance, If I want to tell a story about my pet dog, what would I paint on my stone? (allow students to answer) STEPS 3. 4. 5. 4 Prepare the Stones by allowing children to paint and create symbols on the stones a. EXAMPLE- student paints a dog on a smooth stone. Sharing a. Using a random selection method, pick students to share their stories with the class. Writing (optional) a. Allow students to either write the name of what they painted down or write down their stories.
