SEMINAR NOTES ON HAIR

THE BEAUTY OF NATURAL HAIR FOR GODLY WOMEN

Key Scriptures 1 Corinthians 11:15 — “But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her…” 1 Peter 3:3–4 — Our greatest beauty should come from the “hidden man of the heart.” Proverbs 31:30 — “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.” Introduction God created every woman uniquely, and our natural hair is part of that uniqueness. Whether our hair is long, short, thick, fine, curly or tightly coiled, we can appreciate it as part of God's creation. Psalm 139:14 says, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” As godly women, we can enjoy and care for our hair while remembering that our true worth does not come from our appearance but from God. 1. OUR NATURAL HAIR IS BEAUTIFUL Natural hair is part of God's creative design. We should not be ashamed of our hair or compare ourselves with other women.1 Corinthians 11:15 describes a woman's hair as her glory. This reminds us that it is perfectly acceptable to appreciate our hair and maintain it beautifully and neatly. However, our hair should never become the source of our identity. 2. WE SHOULD CARE FOR WHAT GOD HAS GIVEN US Taking care of our natural hair can be part of good self-care. We can: Keep our scalp and hair clean. Moisturise regularly. Avoid excessive heat and harsh chemicals. Avoid hairstyles that pull tightly on the scalp. Protect our hair at night. Trim damaged ends when necessary. Eat well and drink enough water. Taking care of our hair does not make us vain. The important thing is to maintain the right balance.

3. GOD IS MORE CONCERNED ABOUT OUR HEART

1 Samuel 16:7 says: “Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.” A woman may have beautiful hair, but God wants her heart to be beautiful too. 1 Peter 3:3–4 teaches that our greatest beauty should not only be outward decoration but the character within us. A godly woman should therefore develop love, humility, patience, kindness, wisdom, self-control and faith. 4. SAMSON'S HAIR TEACHES US ABOUT CONSECRATION In Judges 16, Samson's uncut hair was connected to his Nazirite dedication to God. His strength did not come from hair itself; it came from God. His hair was a sign of his consecration. This teaches us that our outward appearance can sometimes reflect an inward commitment, but our power and identity must always come from God. 5. DON'T LET HAIR BECOME AN IDOL Hair is beautiful, but it should never become more important than God. We should not spend so much time worrying about our hair that we neglect our spiritual lives. Matthew 6:33 says: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness…” Let us care for our hair, but care even more for our relationship with God. 6. OUR GREATEST BEAUTY IS OUR CHARACTER Proverbs 31:25 says: “Strength and honour are her clothing…” And Proverbs 31:30 reminds us that physical beauty is temporary, but a woman who fears the Lord deserves praise. Hair will change. Our appearance will change. But the character we build in Christ can continue to grow. USING NATURAL HERBS TO CARE FOR OUR NATURAL HAIR

3. GOD IS MORE CONCERNED ABOUT OUR HEART

God has blessed us with a wonderful creation filled with plants, herbs and natural resources that can be used in

caring for our bodies and hair. For many generations, women have used natural ingredients to cleanse, moisturise and strengthen their hair. The Bible says in Genesis 1:29, “I have given you every herb bearing seed… and every tree…” This reminds us that God has provided natural resources that can be used wisely. Herbs and Their importance for natural hair 1. Aloe vera: Moisturises the hair and scalp, helps soothe dryness and can make hair softer and easier to manage. 2. Fenugreek (Methi): used to strengthen hair, improve softness and help reduce breakage. 3. Hibiscus (Zobo): Rich in plant compounds and traditionally used to condition hair, improve softness and support healthy-looking growth. 4. Rosemary: Commonly used in hair oils and scalp treatments; may support scalp health and hair growth. 5. Peppermint: Gives a refreshing sensation and is traditionally used to stimulate the scalp. Essential oil must be diluted. 6. Neem: used for scalp cleansing and soothing irritated or flaky scalps. 7. Lavender: Has a pleasant fragrance and is traditionally used to soothe and care for the scalp. 8. Green tea: Contains antioxidants and can be used as a hair/scalp rinse. 9. Nettle: used in hair rinses and scalp preparations because of its mineral content. 10. Black seed (Nigella sativa): Its oil is traditionally used to moisturise the scalp and hair and reduce dryness. Caring for Our Hair With Wisdom Using herbs is only one part of healthy natural-hair care.. Proverbs 4:7 says, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom.” This teaches us that even in something as simple as caring for our hair, we should use knowledge and wisdom rather than following every trend we see. Our Bodies Are God's Gift 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 reminds us that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, caring for ourselves is not necessarily vanity. We can look after our hair and bodies while maintaining the right priorities. However, our outward appearance should never become more important than our spiritual life. 1 Peter 3:3–4 reminds us that our greatest beauty should come from the “hidden man of the heart.” So, while we care for our natural hair on the outside, we should also care for our hearts through prayer, God's Word, love, humility and obedience.

Conclusion

Ladies, there is absolutely nothing wrong with appreciating our natural hair. Our natural hair should remind us of the creativity of our God and the uniqueness with which He made each woman. We should wash it. We should moisturise it. We should braid it. We can style it. We can protect it. We can enjoy it. But above all, we must care for the woman underneath the hair, because beautiful hair without a beautiful heart is incomplete. Let our hair be beautiful, but let our character be even more beautiful. Let our appearance be attractive, but let our lives attract people to Christ. Let us take care of our crowns on our heads, but let us remember that the greatest crown is the crown of a life surrendered to God. Final Message “A godly woman does not measure her worth by the length, texture or style of her hair. Her true beauty is found in her identity in Christ, her character, and her fear of the Lord.” Closing Scripture 1 Peter 3:4: “But let it be the hidden man of the heart… which is in the sight of God of great price.”
