Addressing the Lok Sabha on Tuesday during a special discussion on India’s “strong, successful, and decisive” Operation Sindoor in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pa- halgam—where innocent civilians were killed in the name of religion by Pakistan-backed terrorists—PM Modi said Operation Sindoor is ongoing and any “reckless” move by Islamabad will be met with a “firm response.” Addressing the House, the Prime Minister recalled his interaction with the media fraternity at the beginning of the session, stating that he had appealed to all Members of Parliament by describing the session as a ‘Vijay Utsav’—a celebration of India’s victo- ries and a tribute to India’s glory. He said during Operation Sindoor, the synergy of the Navy, Army, and Air Force shook Pakistan to its core. Highlighting that ‘Vijay Utsav’ referred to the complete obliteration of terrorist headquarters, Modi remarked that Vijay Utsav represents the “fulfilment of the solemn vow taken with sindoor—a tribute to national devotion and sacrifice.” “Vijay Utsav is a testament to the valour and strength of India’s armed forces,” he emphasised, further stating that Vijay Utsav celebrates the unity, willpower, and collective triumph of 140 crore Indians. Affirming that he has stood in the House with the spirit of victory to present India’s perspective, the Prime Minister stated that for those who fail to see India’s viewpoint, he has stood to hold up a mirror. Kerala nuns arrest row: Congress leaders allege targeting of Christians in Chhattisgarh Durg (Chhattisgarh) [India], July 30 (ANI): The arrest of two Kerala-based Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh on charges of human trafficking and religious conversion has ignited a political storm, with leaders from the Congress accusing the ruling BJP of targeting Christian minori- ties and suppressing legitimate rights. The incident took place on July 25 at Durg Railway Station, where nuns were arrested by police after a complaint was filed by a local. Speaking to the media in Durg, senior Congress leader and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said, “We wrote a letter to the CM and also raised this issue in the Lok Sabha, and we all gave statements against it. A delegation of MPs and MLAs from Kerala had come to meet them, but they were told to come tomorrow because a BJP delegation is in Raipur, so they were not allowed to meet. I told the DG that they should be allowed to meet; otherwise, we will stage a sit-in here… now their meeting has happened…” In Delhi, veteran Congress MP K. Suresh blamed right-wing ele- ments for orchestrating the incident. “After the BJP came to power in Chhattisgarh, the Christian minorities are attacked every day by Bajrang Dal with the support of the BJP government. Two days ago, two girls came with consent to join the Nuns for work. But the Bajrang Dal decided that these nuns took two girls for conversion from Hinduism to Christianity. So they attacked the nuns. After that, the Chhattisgarh Police filed an FIR. The two innocent nuns and those girls Kerala Nuns see page 2

August 1, 2025 Friday India This Week Indian diaspora leaders urge government action over passport-related delays in repatriating mortal remains By Reena Bhardwaj | Washington, DC [US], July 26 (ANI): Advocacy groups representing the Indian diaspora are urging the Indian government to streamline procedures after airlines began refusing to transport mortal remains without original passports, leaving grieving families in distress. In a letter addressed to India’s Home Secretary Govind Mohan, prominent diaspora organisations including TEAM Aid and Jaipur Foot USA highlighted the growing crisis faced by Indian families worldwide when their loved ones die abroad and passports are not readily available. The situation has escalated following recent fines imposed on Air India by India’s Bureau of Immigration. In response, the airline implemented a strict policy refusing to carry human remains without the deceased’s original passport—even when Indian embassies have issued No Objection Certificates (NOCs). Several other airlines have reportedly followed suit, creating what advocacy leaders describe as a “deeply distressing and devastating situation” for bereaved families. Prem Bhandari, Chairman of Jaipur Foot USA, and Mohan Nannapaneni, Founder and President of TEAM Aid, jointly authored the letter outlining the humanitarian crisis. TEAM Aid, which has facilitated the repatriation of over 4,000 mortal remains from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to various Indian states, said the issue often arises when individuals die in tragic circumstances such as accidents, suicides, or homicides, leaving passports inaccessible due to police investigations. In other instances, passports are withheld by immigration authorities in cases involving asylum seekers or visa violations. “In several tragic cases, the deceased individual lived alone, and their passport was inaccessible at the time of death,” the letter notes. Homes are sometimes sealed during investigations, making document retrieval impossible while families wait in agony to bring their loved ones home. The emotional toll is starkly illustrated in the case of Rahul Patel, whose untimely and unnatural death has left his body stranded in a funeral home for over a week. Despite all documentation being in order, including an NOC from the Indian Consulate, the sole obstacle remains the passport, which is held up with customs in Chicago. “No airline is willing to transport the body due to fear of penalties,” said Bhandari. “The deceased’s brother, Dilip Patel, calls me daily from Gujarat,” he added. “His family hasn’t slept, desperately waiting to bring Rahul home.” Indian consulates have attempted to ease the situation by issuing NOCs even when passports are missing. However, when remains arrive in India, airport immigration authorities sometimes detain them for hours due to the lack of an original passport, further delaying an already painful process. “We used to occasionally ship human remains even without the original passport, relying on the Indian Consulate-issued NOC,” said Nannapaneni. “But due to recent fines imposed on airlines by the Bureau of Immigration, carriers are now refusing transport unless the passport is available. This creates heartbreaking obstacles for grieving families who are unable to fulfill sacred religious rites and provide a dignified final journey.” Prem Bhandari questioned the rationale behind the penalties, saying, “Indian Consulates, Embassies, and High Commissions issue a No Objection Monsoon Fury: 94 Die Due to RainRelated Incidents in Himachal Pradesh Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 29 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh continues to endure the relentless fury of the monsoon, which has severely disrupted public infrastructure and claimed numerous lives across the state. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), as of Tuesday, 357 roads—including one National Highway—182 power distribution transformers (DTRs), and 179 water supply schemes (WSS) have been disrupted due to incessant rains and associated disasters. The cumulative toll of the monsoon season paints a grim picture. Official data from the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) reports that 170 people have died since June 20, of whom 94 lost their lives in rain-related incidents, including landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, drowning, electrocution, and lightning. The remaining 76 deaths occurred in road accidents during the same period. Mandi district remains the worst-hit, with 259 road blockages, 172 disrupted power transformers, and 47 damaged water schemes. It also recorded the highest number of fatalities due to both monsoon-triggered incidents and road accidents. The widespread damage extends to homes, livestock, crops, and vital infrastructure. Flash floods and landslides have cut off numerous regions, isolating communities and hampering access. Restoration and rescue operations are ongoing under the supervision of district authorities, with support from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local police teams. Authorities have issued advisories urging the public to avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas and remain cautious amid continuing rainfall alerts. Earlier today, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu addressed the situation, confirming that torrential rains wreaked havoc in Mandi district, particularly along the Jail Road area where two individuals were reported dead and others are feared buried under debris. “Heavy rain lashed Mandi last night, causing severe damage to the Jail Road area. Two deaths have been reported. Given the scale of the disaster, I can say it resembles a cloudburst-like situation,” Sukhu stated during a press interaction in Shimla, assuring that immediate rescue and relief efforts are underway. (ANI) Certificate only after verifying the deceased’s Indian nationality. Penalising airlines in such verified cases is neither understandable nor justified.” In response, the organisations have formally appealed to the Indian Home Secretary, urging immediate intervention and a long-term resolution. They request a directive instructing airport and immigration officials across India to accept embassy-issued NOCs mentioning passport unavailability as sufficient for releasing remains without further delay. “We humbly request your intervention to streamline the process,” the letter states. “This issue affects the dignity of the deceased and the sentiments of their families.” Describing the matter as a “critical humanitarian concern,” the advocacy groups stress the urgent need for government action, especially given the large Indian diaspora in North America. For families already overwhelmed by loss, these bureaucratic hurdles transform grief into a prolonged nightmare, depriving them of the closure that comes from performing final rites in their homeland. (ANI) Kerala nuns arrest row: Congress leaders allege targeting of Christians in Chhattisgarh Kerala Nuns from page 1 are in jail…,” he said. CPI leader Annie Raja, who also attempted to meet the arrested women, alleged political interference in the prison’s handling of the case.”We give a proper application. While giving the application, the authorities said that they will do all the arrangements. Now they are saying that we have violated the rules of the jail. The people who came before us said that they had met the nuns after 3 pm… They might have gotten the orders from the CM, RSS, or the Bajrang Dal by not allowing us to meet them…,” he said. On July 27, the Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI) also strongly condemned the alleged incident, claiming that, according to reports, the women had explicit written permission from their parents but were physically assaulted after being arrested. CBCI’s statement read, “Such incidents not only threaten the modesty of women but also put their lives in grave danger. These repeated, unwarranted actions are a serious violation of the Constitution and cannot be tolerated.” (ANI)

August 1, 2025 Friday India This Week PM Modi reset India-Maldives ties amid a brief pro-China tilt Male [Maldives], July 27 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Maldives as the Guest of Honour for the island nation’s 60th Independence Day celebrations marks a major reset in diplomatic ties between the two countries, amid a brief pro-China tilt. The Maldives’ diplomatic shift from the “India Out” campaign to inviting PM Modi for its 60th Independence Day celebrations in 2025 is a significant turnaround. This change in stance reflects a broader recalibration in the country’s foreign policy, driven by pragmatic considerations and a recognition of the importance of its relationship with India. The diplomatic row was sparked by derogatory social media comments from Maldivian officials against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2024. The controversy led to a wave of public outrage in India, with many celebrities and social media users advocating for a boycott of the Maldives and instead promoting tourism in India’s Lakshadweep islands. Despite derogatory remarks from some Maldivian ministers and demands for troop withdrawal, India maintained composure, choosing engagement over escalation. PM Modi met Muizzu at COP28 in UAE, and India replaced its 76 military personnel with HAL technicians in May 2024, addressing Male’s concerns without severing strategic ties. This pragmatic diplomacy coincided with Maldives facing internal economic stress, limited Chinese support, and the ruling PNC gaining a supermajority in Parliament. Former Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer visited India in May 2024, followed by President Muizzu’s five-day visit in October. The visit concluded with the adoption of a joint vision on economic and maritime security partnership. P r e s i d e n t Muizzu’s public statement affirming that “Maldives will not do anything that would harm India’s security interests” marked a clear departure from the earlier rhetoric. India’s patient diplomacy and sustained economic engagement turned a strained relationship into one of renewed trust and cooperation, exemplifying a successful recalibration in the Indian Ocean neighbourhood. Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the island nation and said that it will “definitely” give a boost to tourism. On PM Modi’s visit, Muizzu said, “Definitely with the Prime Minister’s visit, it is going to increase a lot… I am sure people-to-people exchange between the two countries will be greatly boosted because of the visit.” This visit is marked by symbolism, renewed commitments, and major announcements, which have not only strengthened ties but also reaffirmed India’s position as the Maldives’ most trusted partner. This marked PM Modi’s third visit to the Maldives and the first by any Head of State or Government during President Muizzu’s tenure. During a joint press briefing with President Muizzu, Prime Minister Modi underlined the depth of the relationship, saying, “This year, India and the Maldives are also celebrating sixty years of diplomatic relations. But the roots of our ties are older than history and as deep as the sea.” President Muizzu praised India as a “trusted friend” and acknowledged India’s support during challenging times, demonstrating a shift in tone from his earlier stance. PM Modi also referred to the commemorative postal stamp released during his visit, featuring traditional boats from both countries. India was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with the Maldives following its independence in 1965. “The commemorative postal stamp released today, featuring the traditional watercraft of both countries, reflects that we are not just neighbours but fellow travellers,” he said. The stamps feature India’s Uru boat and Maldives’ Vadhu Dhoni, symbolising shared maritime heritage and centuries-old Indian Ocean trade. Uru boat, A large wooden dhow handcrafted in the historic boatyards of Beypore, Kerala. The traditional Maldivian fishing boat, Vadhu Dhoni, is used for reef and coastal fishing. India also announced a significant financial commitment of nearly USD 565 million (Rs. 4850 crore) in the form of a new concessional Line of Credit for infrastructure development in the Maldives. The two leaders also exchanged an Amended Agreement that reduces the Maldives’ annual debt repayment obligations by 40%, from USD 51 million to USD 29 million. India’s financial assistance is crucial for the Maldives, given its substantial budget deficit and dwindling foreign reserves. Apart from financial support, PM Modi announced that both nations are working toward a Free Trade Agreement and a Bilateral Investment Treaty to boost economic and trade ties. “Talks on a free trade agreement between India and the Maldives have started,” he said. PM Modi reaffirmed India’s ongoing support in enhancing the Maldives’ defence preparedness. “India will always support the Maldives to strengthen its defence capabilities,” he said. He added that both countries’ mutual defence and security cooperation was built on trust. “Mutual cooperation in the field of defence and security is a testament to mutual trust,” PM noted. During the visit, India and Maldives signed six MoUs in various sectors, including Fisheries and aquaculture, Meteorology, Digital public infra- structure (including UPI integration) , Indian Pharmacopoeia standards, Concessional credit, and a new Line of Credit worth Rs. 4850 crore for infrastructure In its official statement, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “The two leaders reflected on the deep bonds of friendship and trust that have been built over centuries, strengthened by strong people-to-people ties. Prime Minister reiterated India’s commitment to further deepen ties with Maldives in keeping with its ‘Neighbourhood First’ and Vision MAHASAGAR policies.” As part of India’s Neighbourhood First policy and Vision MAHASAGAR, India gifted and handed over two units of Aarogya Maitri Health Cube [BHISHM] sets to the Government of Maldives. BHISHM is a stateof-the-art portable Cube containing medical essentials, designed for rapid deployment in emergencies and disaster zones. With state-ofthe-art medical equipment as part of the cube, it can provide medical aid to 200 casualties with in-built support to sustain a crew of six medical personnel for up to 72 hours. President Muizzu appreciated India’s consistent role as the first responder in times of crisis. The two leaders also discussed collaborations in areas like development partnerships, capacity building, climate action, health, and infrastructure. In particular, both sides acknowledged the growing cooperation in maritime security, especially through joint work under the Colombo Security Conclave, where India, Maldives, and other regional nations coordinate on common security concerns. India and the Maldives also agreed to continue their cooperation on issues affecting the Global South. “The two leaders noted that, as Global South partners, they would continue to work on issues such as climate change, promotion of renewable energy, disaster risk reduction and weather science in the interests of the planet and its people,” the MEA said. PM Modi also thanked President Muizzu for strongly condemning the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir and for expressing solidarity with India. This gesture, coming from a neighbour who was once seen drifting away from India, was important in rebuilding trust and cooperation. PM Modi received a grand welcome in Male with a 21-gun salute, a ceremonial guard of honour, and traditional Maldivian cultural performances. Large crowds, including children in traditional attire, gathered to greet him. A massive portrait of PM Modi was displayed on the Ministry of Defence building in Male, a gesture seen as reflective of warming ties. PM Modi was warmly welcomed at the iconic Republic Square, where he graced the Independence Day celebrations of the Maldives as the guest of honour. Former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed also credited India with preventing the Maldives from defaulting on debt during its worst financial crisis. “If not for India, we would have gone into default,” Nasheed told ANI. He praised India’s assistance in ensuring the island nation’s economic stability and added, “Indian assistance and partnership in the Maldives are deeply valued… With mounting financial difficulties and substantial debt repayment obligations, India’s timely support helped us avoid default.” Nasheed also praised PM Modi for appreciating Maldivian culture and said the bond between the two nations would remain strong, regardless of who is in power. “India has maintained good relations with us and whatever the government, I am sure we are going to have a very bright future as well,” he said. Prime Minister Modi’s visit has successfully re-established India’s strong footing in the Maldives, through strong economic offers, cultural diplomacy, and strategic support. (ANI)

India This Week August 1, 2025 Friday India won’t tolerate nuclear blackmail, will treat terror sponsors and masterminds alike: PM Modi Nuclear Blackmail from page 1 the emotions of 140 crore citizens. Modi emphasized that the resonance of these collective sentiments has been heard in the House, and he has risen to add his voice to that resounding spirit. Expressing gratitude to the people of India for their unwavering support and blessings during Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister stated that he remains indebted to the nation. He acknowledged the citizens’ collective resolve and conveyed appreciation for their role in the operation’s success. The Prime Minister condemned the heinous incident that occurred in Pahalgam on April 22, where terrorists brutally shot innocent people after asking their religion—calling it the height of cruelty. He remarked that this was a calculated attempt to plunge India into the flames of violence and incite communal unrest. He thanked the people of India for defeating this conspiracy with unity and resilience. Modi recalled that after April 22, he issued a public statement, in English as well, to make India’s stance clear to the world. He declared it is India’s firm resolve to crush terrorism, emphasizing that even the masterminds will face The Poetic Pen INDIA THIS WEEK- AUGUST 1, 2025 “No One Is Above the Law” It’s easy to say when aimed at a foe: “If you’ve committed a crime, you must face the music—crime causes pain, even to the uninvolved. Why should you escape the just reward for evil deeds?” You should be brought to justice— Imprisoned or sent to the gallows for all the wrongs you’ve done— Or even the ones we invent and pin on you! Because you dared to defy us, and refused to obey our demands. Even if you haven’t broken the law, we’ll find a charge to make it so. We’ll shout and scream, “No one is above the law!” But don’t rage— The law applies only to you, not to us. For we are beyond reproach. Whatever we do is right. It may not be moral—but who cares for morals, when they’re tethered to our feelings? Right and wrong hold no weight for us— Truth and facts aren’t our guide. What suits us is truth enough. Anyone who challenges us is wrong— They should be silenced, banished, imprisoned— or even destroyed. Opposition is a crime: “No one is above the law!” But if the tables turn, and you gain power— If you use the same tactics we used to destroy you— We’ll cry foul. We’ll call you vengeful, accuse you of tearing down the nation we serve with great disdain. Because whatever we do is always right, and you are always wrong, even when your cause is just. That’s our decree: You can do no right if you don’t fit into our mold. Laws don’t bind us—only you. After all, “No one is above the law.” By Rajan George punishment greater than imagination. The Prime Minister noted that he was on a foreign tour on April 22 but returned immediately to convene a high-level meeting. He stated that clear instructions were issued during the meeting to deliver a decisive response to terrorism, reiterating that this is a national commitment. Affirming complete confidence in the capabilities, strength, and courage of India’s armed forces, Modi stated that the military was given full operational freedom to decide the timing, location, and mode of response. The Prime Minister emphasised that these directives were clearly conveyed during the high-level meeting, and some aspects may have been reported in the media. He remarked with pride that the punishment delivered to the terrorists was so impactful that even their masterminds continue to lose sleep over it. The Prime Minister stated that he wished to present India’s response and the success of its armed forces before the nation through the House. He remarked that following the Pahalgam attack, the Pakistani military had anticipated a major Indian response, prompting them to issue nuclear threats. Outlining the first dimension, he said that as scheduled, India executed its operation on the intervening night of May 6 and 7, rendering Pakistan unable to react. Modi emphasised that the Indian armed forces avenged the April 22 attack by achieving their targeted objectives in just 22 minutes. Presenting the second dimension of India’s strategic response, Modi remarked that although India has fought multiple wars with Pakistan in the past, this was the first time a strategy was executed that reached locations previously untouched. He highlighted that terrorist hideouts across Pakistan were decisively targeted, including areas no one imagined India INDIA THIS WEEK Phone: 301-445-0200; 301-917-4800 www.indiathisweek.online India This Week is published every Friday by ADV Solutions Inc, Views expressed in this paper are those of the individual writers and not necessarily of India This Week. He specifically mentioned Bahawalpur and Muridke, stating that these bases were razed to the ground, affirming that India’s armed forces had successfully destroyed terrorist bases. Modi emphasised the third dimension—that Pakistan’s nuclear threats were proven hollow, and India has demonstrated that nuclear blackmailing will no longer be tolerated, nor will India ever bow before it. Outlining the fourth dimension of India’s strategic response under Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister stated that India demonstrated its advanced technological capabilities by delivering precise strikes deep within Pakistani territory, resulting in significant damage to Pakistan’s air base assets— many of which, he added, remain in critical condition. He remarked that “we are now in an era of technology-driven warfare, and Operation Sindoor proved India’s mastery in this domain.” Emphasising the fifth dimension, the Prime Minister stated that for the first time, the world has witnessed the strength of an Atmanirbhar Bharat during Operation Sindoor. He highlighted the effectiveness of Made-in-India drones and missiles, which exposed vulnerabilities in Pakistan’s weapons systems. Highlighting a significant achievement in India’s defence structure—referring to his announcement of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)—the Prime Minister remarked that Operation Sindoor witnessed a joint action by the Navy, Army, and Air Force, and the synergy between these forces rattled Pakistan comprehensively. Modi stated that while terrorist incidents had occurred in India earlier as well, the masterminds were previously undisturbed and continued planning future attacks with impunity. He emphasised that the situation has now changed. Today, after every strike, the masterminds lose sleep—knowing that India will strike back and eliminate threats with precision. The Prime Minister asserted that India has established a “new normal.” He elaborated that those sitting in comfort and planning attacks will now tremble with fear. “India is no longer going to bear pain in silence. India will enter and strike. And it will strike decisively.” PM Modi added, “Earlier, they used to create terror, now they live in terror.” The Prime Minister mentioned that after the success of Operation Sindoor, many powerful nations reached out to India. They were surprised by the pace, precision, and effectiveness of the operation. He stated that many asked, “How did you do it?” and “Why didn’t Pakistan retaliate?” Modi emphasised that it was because the world now knows that this is a new India, which gives a befitting reply to terrorism. He stressed that some countries had, in the past, overlooked the pain inflicted on India due to their geopolitical interests. But today, those countries have changed their approach. “Today, we are seeing statements from all over the world that support India’s fight against terrorism,” he said, “because they know India has the resolve, capability, and leadership to crush terror networks.” Modi concluded his address by stating, “Terrorism is a war against humanity. Every Indian stands united against it. The success of Operation Sindoor is not just a military triumph—it is a symbol of India’s will, unity, and unwavering patriotism.” (ANI) Remember: “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. ” Jesus Christ

August 1, 2025 Friday India This Week ‘Atrocities’ against nuns in Chhattisgarh show true nature of Sangh Parivar: Kerala CM Thiruvananthapuram ( Kerala) [India], July 29 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday said that the arrest of Keralite nuns by Chhattisgarh police was on the basis of “a false complaint” filed by Bajrang Dal activists. He also termed the arrest “the latest example of the Sangh Parivar’s atrocities against the Christian community.” “The atrocities against nuns in Chhattisgarh show the true nature of the Sangh Parivar. It is clear beyond doubt that the nuns were arrested and imprisoned on the basis of a false complaint filed by Bajrang Dal activists,” Vijayan said in a statement. “This is also the latest example of the Sangh Parivar’s atrocities against the Christian community. The same people who enter Christian homes and palaces with cakes and friendly smiles are even hunting down nuns on charges of religious conversion and human trafficking,” he said. The Chief Minister alleged that the Sangh Parivar fears the pluralism and coexistence of the country. “That is why the attacks against minorities continue. As soon as the news of the arrest of the Malayali nuns came to light, a letter was written to the Prime Minister, requesting him to intervene to ensure justice. Howev- New Delhi [India], July 29 (ANI): In a concerted effort to advance scientific research within traditional medicine systems, the Ministry of Ayush has established several independent apex research councils. These include the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS), and the Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy (CCRYN). These councils focus on key research domains such as clinical research, medicinal plant studies— including medico-ethno botanical surveys, pharmacognosy, and cultivation—drug standardization, pharmacological research, and literary research and documentation. Collaborative projects are conducted in partnership with universities, hospitals, and research institutes to bolster the scientific foundation of Ayush systems. In addition to core research, the councils also engage in extensive extension activities. These include delivering healthcare services through Out-Patient Departments (OPDs) and In-Patient Departments (IPDs), operating special clinics for geriatric care, and execut- ing outreach initiatives such as the Tribal Health Care Research Programme (THCRP), Swasthya Rakshan Programme, and the Ayurveda Mobile Health Care Programme under the Scheduled Castes Sub Plan (SCSP). To further incentivize research and innovation, the Ministry has implemented the Central Sector Scheme titled “AYURGYAN.” Through this scheme, financial assistance is extended to government and private medical, scientific, and research and development institutions, as well as university departments, to support projects in priority areas of Ayush. In the field of Unani medicine, CCRUM has initiated multiple collaborations to integrate Unani with evidence-based medical practices. Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed with premier institutions such as the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jamia Millia Islamia, Jamia Hamdard, the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPER), the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (Hyderabad), Anna University (Chennai), the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, and Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (Srinagar), among others. er, the arrests were justified, including by the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.” He accused the Sangh Parivar of trying to continuously harm the secularism of the country by playing on hatred and divisive politics. “Encroachments on minority rights and the fundamental rights granted by the Constitution must be opposed and defeated,” he said. Chhattisgarh police arrested three persons, including two Keralite nuns, at Durg railway station on charges of trafficking and forcibly converting a few tribal women. The Congress has also condemned the arrest. “The atrocities against mi- norities in the BJP-ruled state are increasing day by day. This is not an isolated case. In Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Manipur, every place they are haunting Christian institutions, fathers, and nuns. We wrote to HM and CM, but there is no concrete action,” Congress MP, KC Venugopal, told reporters at Parliament on Tuesday. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday defended the arrest.”Three daughters from Narayanpur were promised nursing training and subsequent job placements. They were handed over to two nuns at Durg station by a person from Narayanpur, who was taking the girls to Agra. Through inducement, an attempt was being made to engage in human trafficking and conversion. This is a serious matter related to women’s safety. The investigation in this case is still ongoing. The matter is under judicial review, and the law will take its course,” Chhattisgarh CM wrote on ‘X’. (ANI) The CCRS is currently operating an Integrated Siddha OPD for cancer patients at the All India Institute of Ayurveda in New Delhi and has also established a Siddha Clinical Research Unit at Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi, to support palliative cancer care using the Siddha system. Meanwhile, the CCRH is working toward integrating homoeopathy into mainstream healthcare by collaborating on integrative medicine research with institutions like AIIMS Delhi, AIIMS Jhajjar (Haryana), and various state and private homoeopathic medical colleges. Homoeopathic treatment is being provided in several allopathic hospitals for a variety of clinical conditions. These initiatives reflect the Ministry of Ayush’s continued commitment to evidence-based development and the integration of traditional medicine systems with modern healthcare frameworks. (ANI) dia], July 26 (ANI): Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday announced the launch of the ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana,’ describing it as a historic step under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi toward women’s empowerment and the economic upliftment of rural and semi-urban India. “This scheme is not only a major step towards women’s empowerment but also towards providing economic security to rural and semi-urban India. The central government is committed to making every woman in the country self-reliant and economically strong,” Chouhan stated. According to a release from the Ministry of Rural Development, the ministry has entered into a significant partnership with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) as part of the Government of India’s mission of ‘Insurance for All by 2047.’ Under the financial inclusion initiative of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission, trained women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across India will be appointed as ‘Bima Sakhis’ at the Gram Panchayat level. Calling the scheme a strong platform for women’s entrepreneurship and financial independence, the minister said, “It reflects our commitment to realizing the vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ set forth by Prime Minister Modi.” Chouhan emphasized that the program aims to economically empower rural women by enabling them to take up roles as ‘Bima Sakhis.’ These positions not only offer entrepreneurial opportunities but also contribute toward Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and support the ‘Lakhpati Didi Mission.’ He noted that by August 15, the number of ‘Lakhpati Didis’—women earning over Rs.1 lakh annually—would reach 2 crore (20 million) nationwide. He further stated that the scheme is opening new avenues for employment in both rural and ur- ban areas, promoting local employment and enhancing women’s workforce participation. Within this inclusive insurance ecosystem, Bima Sakhis will expand access to insurance services while delivering trustbased support to the last mile. The initiative also aligns with the government’s key programs such as Jan Dhan Se Jan Suraksha, Digital India, and skill development for women. It will act as a financial shield for rural families, especially in disaster-affected areas. “Bima Sakhis are not just insurance agents but pioneers of social change. They are carrying the torch of financial security to every village, as a result of which villages are becoming economically stronger and women more self-reliant,” Chouhan remarked. August 1, 2025 Friday 9 “Where’s your plan to fight a fused front war with Pakistan and China?”: Chidambaram asks govt in Rajya Sabha New Delhi [India], July 29 (ANI): Congress leader and former Union Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday stated that India’s war during Operation Sindoor was not just a conflict against Pakistan, but a combined threat posed by both Pakistan and China. Speaking during the debate on Operation Sindoor in the Rajya Sabha, Chidambaram stated that India was not just fighting a one-front or two-front war scenario, but a fusion of both Pakistan and China. “Deputy Chief of Army Staff has admitted to the Chinese aircraft and missiles being deployed by Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. If that is true, then the conclusion is that Pakistan has been testing Chinese missiles, and India is not fighting a one-front or two-front war scenario, but a fused front war of China and Pakistan together,” Chidambaram said. “Pakistan and China are no longer different fronts, but a fused front. The pilots were Pakistanis, but the aircraft were Chinese. The finger was of Pakistani military leaders but missiles were Chinese. The operator was Pakistani, but the drones were from Turkey. Where is your plan to fight not a one-front war, not a two-front war, but a fused front war of India fighting Pakistan and China fused together?” the Congress leader asked. Speaking on the government’s reluctant behaviour to hold a special session of the Parliament on Operation Sindoor, Chidambaram stated that it would take time to tell whether the operation was “decisive”. “We have been demanding a special session of the Parliament to discuss Operation Sindoor, but for their own reasons, the government kept denying it. Anywhere around the world, every time there is a war, there is a session in the Parliament to discuss various aspects of the war. So if you ask me, I would call Operation Sindoor successful, but only time will tell if it was decisive or not,” Chidambaram further stated. Alleging India’s intelligence failure, the Congress MP also questioned why the country agreed to a ceasefire when the military leadership had admitted to “tactical mistakes”. “I agree that India’s leadership during Operation Sindoor was exemplary, but our military personnel have admitted to tactical mistakes and losses. I call the CDS candid for admitting to their losses. I also have questions on why we agreed to a ceasefire,” he added. Highlighting the after-effects of Operation Sindoor, Chidambaram questioned why delegations were sent to all countries, excluding our immediate neighbours. “Post Operation Sindoor, we sent our delegations to several countries, but not to our immediate neighbours. My questions revolve around why. Have we given up on our immediate neighbours? My next question is, have any of the countries we sent delegations to condemn, name and shame Pakistan? Not to what I know,” he said. “On May 25, the IMF approved funds to Pakistan, and India abstained from voting on the proposal. Why? Who supported us? While everyone voted for and on the proposal, we were the only one who abstained it… what makes things worse for us is that Pakistan is being elected for several higher positions despite being the one to initiate the P. Chid- India Sends 10-Tonne Humanitarian Aid to Crisis-Hit Somalia New Delhi [India], July 27 (ANI): India has dispatched a consignment of 10 tonnes of humanitarian assistance to Somalia in a significant act of solidarity with the crisis-affected African nation, which continues to struggle with internal conflict, climate shocks, and widespread economic hardship. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced the shipment on Saturday through a post on X, stating that the aid includes a wide range of essential medical supplies. “India’s humanitarian assistance to the people of Somalia continues. A consignment comprising of 10 tonnes of humanitarian assistance, which includes essential medicines, surgical items, hospital essentials and biomedical equipment, has departed for Somalia,” the MEA said. The consignment was visibly marked with the Indian national flag and labeled, “Gift from the People and Government of India,” reflecting the spirit of friendship and support. Somalia has been enduring decades of complex emergencies, exacerbated by ongoing conflict and extreme weather conditions. The European Commission has documented the country’s prolonged humanitarian crisis, intensified by five consecutive failed rainy seasons between 2020 and 2023. This historic drought impacted 90 percent of the country and affected over 8 million people. More recently, the 2023 Deyr rainy season, worsened by the El Niño phenomenon, led to catastrophic flooding that displaced over 1.2 million people and impacted 2.5 million more. Somalia is now facing La Niña conditions, which are expected to persist through mid- 2025, bringing with them dry spells, below-average rainfall, and worsening food and water insecurity. These conditions are also expected to heighten the spread of cholera and other waterborne diseases while increasing the likelihood of resource-based conflicts. The European Commission has estimated that nearly half of Somalia’s population is affected by a combination of conflict, climate-induced disasters, disease outbreaks, and forced displacement. In 2025, around six million people will require life-saving humanitarian assistance and protection. Food insecurity is among the most critical challenges, with more than half of Somalia’s popula- tion lacking access to clean water. Displaced communities, particularly in rural and underserved areas, remain acutely vulnerable due to limited access to healthcare and safe housing. By the end of 2025, it is projected that 1.8 million Somali children under the age of five will suffer from severe malnutrition, and 4.6 million people will face acute food shortages. Forced displacement is also expected to continue at a scale similar to 2024, driven by both conflict and extreme climate events. India’s latest humanitarian outreach reflects its commitment to international cooperation and its growing role in global humanitarian efforts. (ANI) ambaram further mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on “abh ki baar Trump sarkaar” (this time, Trump’s government), made five years ago, questioning why there had been no protests by the Indian government on the ceasefire announcement. “I am sure PM Modi is going to regret his statements on ‘abh ki baar Trump ki sarkaar’. Why has the Indian government not protested on the statements made by Trump on the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, along with the other decisions Trump has made…” Chidambaram stated. The veteran Congress leader further appealed to the government to show “exemplary leadership”, be candid, and take the country forward with smart decisions. “I appeal to the government to show exemplary leadership, be candid and take the country forward with smart decisions…” he concluded. (ANI) pal], July 30 (ANI): Downpour in Tibet early Wednesday morning has triggered flood in rivers flowing in Nepal prompting authorities to issue warning in three districts. The district of Rasuwa, adjoining the Tibetan side which was hit by a flash flood on July 8 had claimed lives of 7 with over a dozen still missing, after Lhende River swept infrastructure near Nepal-China border. Heavy rainfall in Tibet earlier this morning has triggered flooding in the Trishuli River, raising water levels in areas around Uttar Gaya in Rasuwa and the Trishuli 3B Hub in Kispang. Authorities have issued warnings as water flow continues to rise in the Rasuwagadhi area. Rasuwa’s Assistant Chief District Officer Dhruba Prasad Adhikari has urged “residents living in low-lying coastal areas to remain vigilant,” citing the “ongoing flood originating from the Rasuwagadhi region near the Nepal-China border.” The District Dis- mittee and local disaster response teams under Uttar Gaya Rural Municipality have been mobilized. The rural municipality and police administration have requested immediate cooperation from the public in adhering to the safety notice,” Adhikari told ANI over phone.Similar warning was issued in the Nuwakot and the Dhading District where the Trishuli River has swollen following the flood in Lhende River along the Nepal-China border. The District Administration Office of both the districts has requested the locals living along the coastline to remain vigilant for possible floods. Preliminary assessments by Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology-supported by satellite imagery, local officials from the border area, and geologists had confirmed that the flood originated after a section of long-frozen permafrost suddenly gave way near the river’s source, which flows into Nepal via Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-1 on 8 July.
