ROCKSILK® EWI SLAB / EWI SLAB PLUS June 2021 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Additional specifications Rocksilk® EWI Slabs are also available as Rocksilk® EWI Slab Plus - a higher density and compressively stronger slab in thicknesses up to 200mm. Durability Rocksilk® EWI Slabs are non-hygroscopic, odourless, rot proof, does not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould or bacteria. Application Rocksilk® EWI Slabs are specifically for use with external wall insulation systems. The slabs can be either adhered and mechanically fixed or just mechanically fixed to the substrate then overlaid with a mesh and render system to the designers/system suppliers specification. The slabs offer a solid and robust supporting substrate for the render and no fire stops are required. NOTE: It is the responsibility of the customer and end user to satisfy themselves, that this product is suitable for use and fit for purpose with the selected system. The end user is relying on their own expertise and judgements as to whether the insulation is suitable for their needs. Standards and Certification Rocksilk® EWI Slabs is manufactured in accordance with BS EN 13162, ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems, ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, as certified by TÜV Nord. Real performance Glass and Rock Mineral Wool are easier to install correctly than other insulants such as rigid boards because they adapt to any slight imperfections in the substrate and knit together, eliminating any air gaps. Evidence shows the absence of air gaps is crucial to achieving real performance in the relevant application. Moisture resistance Rocksilk® EWI Slabs contain a water repellent additive to ensure that no liquid water is able to pass through them and reach the structure. Handling and storage Rocksilk® EWI Slabs is easy to handle and install, being lightweight and easily cut to size, where necessary. Rocksilk® EWI Slabs is supplied in recyclable polythene packs which are designed for short term protection only. For longer term protection on site, the product should either be stored indoors, or under cover and off the ground. Rocksilk® EWI Slabs should not be left permanently exposed to the elements. Krimpact® Technology Krimpact® Technology realigns the mineral wool strands during manufacture to increase compressive strength without dramatically reducing thermal performance making Rocksilk® EWI Slabs an ideal product for use behind a render finish. Furthermore, Krimpact® Technology achieves a consistent density slab. This ensures better long-term compressive strength, high impact resistance, better thermal performance and a thinner, lighter product compared to other high-strength insulation options. Made in the UK Rocksilk® EWI Slabs are manufactured in the United Kingdom at our Rock Mineral Wool Plant in Queensferry, North Wales.

Base Coat PREPARATION All surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free of any material which may impair adhesion. Do not apply to shiny surfaces. Scaffolding must be independently tied to allow for uninterrupted application. Any faults in the structure, particularly those which may lead to moisture penetration, must be rectified. Mask around the areas where material is to be applied. Masking tape must be removed before the material has dried out. Beads and expansion joints should be included as required by the substrate and BS standards and carried through all applied materials. SPRAY APPLICATION Please refer to our spray application guidance TIP, which is available on our website. COVERAGE • Insulation board adhesive (EWI insulation boards can be wet fixed using both ecorend EWI-24 or ecorend P11 Polymer Adhesive products) approx 4-5kg/m2 (subject to specified thickness and dabbing methodology. Specifications for mixed or unusual substrates are available on request. • Base coat (EWI Insulation boards) 1.7 kg/per mm/per m2 approx PRIMING For highly absorbent or dusty surfaces use ecorend S10 or G10 Bonding Primer on the substrate, when using the product for an insulation board adhesive as part of a wet fix system. Note: These estimates take no account of wastage and may vary according to the type of surface involved. An allowance must be made for uneven and misaligned substrates when ordering materials. MIXING ecorend EWI-24 Base Coat should be mixed with clean water at a rate of approximately 5 to 5.75 litres per 25kg bag using a suitable high speed paddle mixer. Mix for 2 minutes, allow to stand for 2 minutes then re-mix. This process allows the additives to dissolve and activate, add more water if required to achieve optimum application consistency. Note: ecorend EWI-24 Base Coat may stiffen on standing. Re-mix the product to regain a workable consistency but do not add any more water. APPLICATION Please refer to project technical specification for exact product thickness’s. To avoid dampness and discolouration, rendering should be avoided below DPC or within 150mm of ground level (Please contact ecorend technical department for further advice). 6mm Base Coat – EWI Coat the boards with ecorend EWI-24 Base Coat using a stainless steel float, and then use a 6mm notched trowel vertically – this will prepare the base coat to receive the reinforcing mesh. Bed in the mesh using a stainless steel float and ensure that the joints overlap by 100mm. Additional fibrereinforcing mesh stress patches of 500 x 500mm should be added at all openings i.e. windows and doors, and window reveals for additional substrate stress protection. Once the initial set has taken up, or the following day, apply a second layer of ecorend EWI-24 Base Coat at 3mm to produce a sandwich between the mesh and the second coat. Total thickness = 6mm. ecorend EWI-24 can be finished as required, for a plain finish rub up in a traditional render technique using damp sponge as the render starts to pick up ready to receive an ecorend thin coat render. To prepare to receive an ecorend Dash Receiver or Brick Slip finish, scratch key the base coat with a comb to provide a suitable key. A diluted coat of ecorend S10 Bonding Primer may be required prior to applying a ecorend Dash Receiver or ecorend Brick Slip finish if the ecorend EW1-24 Base Coat has been left to cure. This will assist with suction control. Note: ecorend EWI-24 Base Coat may stiffen on standing. Re-mix the product to regain a workable consistency but do not add any more water. Specification Clauses relating to this product can be found in NBS Section M21 Rendering. BS 5265 Code of Practice for External Rendering and BS 8000-10 should be followed for render only applications. STORAGE Shelf life is 18 months from date of manufacture. TOOL CLEANING All equipment must be washed with clean water immediately after use. Waste material should not be emptied into drainage systems.
