AFC Portchester, founded in 1971, gained its current identity after

merging with Castle Royals in 2002-03. Originally known as Wicor Mill FC, the club began Saturday football in 1988, evolving from a successful Sunday league side under managers Dave Long and Paul Summers. Joining the Hampshire League in 1998, they quickly excelled, finishing Division 2 runners-up in 1999-2000 and winning Division 1 in 2001-02. Today, the club is one of Hampshire's largest, with 40 teams across youth, adult, walking football, and tiny-tots sessions. This inclusivity caters to players from age two to over 80. Significant milestones include earning The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in 2011 and the first team’s promotion to the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division that same year. The reserves also gained promotion and won the Hampshire Intermediate Cup. Under Graham Rix, whose credentials include England caps and managing Chelsea, AFC Portchester flourished in professionalism and ambition. Chairman Paul Kelly’s leadership has enhanced facilities, with the On-site Group Stadium now boasting four bars, function rooms, and seating for over 250 people. The club’s trophy cabinet has steadily filled, highlighted by winning the Hampshire Senior Cup in 2023. Other notable achievements include Sydenhams Wessex League Cup victories (2014-15, 2017-18) and the Russell Cotes Cup (2013-14, 2016-17). Additionally, homegrown talent Andy Rinomhota progressed to a professional career, now playing for Cardiff City. With its rich history, strong community ties, and ongoing development, AFC Portchester stands as a cornerstone of local football and a testament to the game’s enduring spirit.

Since the early 1900s, Royal Navy teams have played a

significant role in Hampshire football. Portsmouth Royal Navy FC (PRNFC) was established in 1962 by Dennis Probee to elevate the standard of football among Royal Navy players. They competed in the Hants League until 1986, becoming a founding member of the new Wessex League and moving to the Victory Stadium at HMS Temeraire. The mid-90s were a golden era for PRNFC, finishing in the top half of the Wessex League and reaching the semi-finals of the Wessex Cup in 1994/95 and 1995/96. In 2002, the club was relegated to the Hampshire League but made an impressive comeback, rejoining the Wessex League in 2004/05 and rebranding as United Services Portsmouth FC (USPFC). Throughout the years, USPFC has seen numerous achievements, including reaching the semi-finals of the Hampshire FA Senior Cup and finishing 3rd in the league in 2008/09. The club introduced a youth section, and in 2011/12, USPFC won the Portsmouth FA Senior Cup. Recent successes include reaching the FA Vase semi-final in 2020/21, gaining promotion to the Wessex Premier League, and finishing 17th in their debut season. The women’s team also achieved promotion to the Southern Region Women’s League. USPFC continues to develop its youth teams and looks forward to future challenges with a new group of players and management.
