of the water An Anthology of Poems by the WHISPERshout Writers Spring 2024 with Heidi Mordhorst
water and the water cycle. From Walt Whitman to Francisco X. Alarcón to Anishinaabe author Carole Lindstrom, we explored many poets’ approaches to nature’s ways with water contrasted and compared with humans’ ways with water. Inspired by our different uses of watercolor paints, we experimented with word choice and mood, line breaks, stanza breaks and layout. As always, each poet made their creative choices with independence and conviction. We hope you enjoy our work! The Wheel of the Water by Tom Chapin and John Forster The wheel of the water go round and round and the wheel of the water go round… Water flow down down, trickle trickle down, Down to the ocean, trickle trickle down… Clouds rain down, thunder and lightning sound… And springs bubble bubble up And springs bubble bubble up…
by Maya what reflection is not a pond frogs look in something big to think in not look in water night light by Maya can it be? by Maya a long time ago, ages of years ago nothing was left or can it be a look over stars? stories of black light never be revealed, the stories always take place with Darkness and Haunted palaces. but my poem is with light how Darkness goes deep in light, how light is darkness the wheel turns to a stop that has a magical revealing light that has the light that cannot be seen, it’s called Darkness who seeks everything scattered in a magical way.
by Ronin Someone leaves a fire open. It spreads. A fire 🔥storm starts, it burns through the hearts of trees, destroying everything in its path. Animals flee, everything reduced to ashes. When it’s finally over, nothing is left. Just ash. This is how a fire 🔥storm begins, and ends. It is never a good thing. How can you prevent a FIRE 🔥STORM? Danger by Ronin Some of the most dangerous forms of fire are wildfire, fire tornado, and finally blue fire. All of them are major disasters. Every form of fire is danger. Tornado A wild fire gets sucked up by a tornado and a vertical line of fire erupts. It burns everything in its path, people scream and run, everywhere is ash.

by Grace Summer place by Grace it’s gone the water stole it it was OUR summer place even though we didn’t own it but we weren’t the only ones who loved it everyone loved the summer place even in the winter countless memories were held there but now they were gone with the waves but the memories still lingered in our hearts Scribble scrabble dots, lines, sun in the corner. stick figures are allowed here. half rainbows, square houses. tall trees with a bright blue pond on the right. don’t forget the spiky green grass. you can’t lie: I know you’ve once drawn like this and scribbled the bright blue sky.
