erutaeF 05 50 "From Practice to Purpose: The Internship Journey of ASTean Student Teachers" From January to April 2025, the teaching internship journey of ASTean student teachers from the Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology (BISCAST) unfolded quietly but meaningfully in the classrooms of Naga City and Camarines Sur. It began not with grand fanfare but with anxious footsteps, handwritten lesson plans, and hopeful hearts. For many of these student teachers, stepping into a real classroom for the first time was both a dream fulfilled and a challenge accepted. As the semester commenced, the once-familiar routines of lectures and theoretical discussions gave way to lesson planning, actual teaching, and onthe-spot improvisation. The classroom, once observed from the back as student observers, became their stage—where they were no longer students but the ones guiding learning, holding markers, and carrying the weight of shaping young minds. Each day was a test of patience, creativity, and adaptability. From teaching core subjects to handling unexpected classroom behaviors, the interns began to grasp that teaching extends far beyond content delivery. It is about connection, compassion, and commitment. Within these four months, the journey was far from linear. There were days of exhaustion and self-doubt, moments when lesson plans didn’t go as expected, when students didn’t respond, or when time felt too short for everything that needed to be done. Yet in between these trials were breakthroughs—quiet, powerful moments when a learner finally understood, when a supervisor offered praise, or when a simple smile from a student rekindled purpose. These moments, both ordinary and extraordinary, carved deep into the identity of each intern what it truly means to teach with heart. The internship experience was not limited to the four corners of the classroom. ASTeans assisted in school programs, supported community outreach, judged contests, and learned the rhythm of school life. They built relationships with cooperating teachers, principals, and most importantly, with learners who began to see them not as temporary figures, but as real mentors. These experiences taught them that the teacher’s role is multi-faceted—an educator, counselor, leader, and sometimes, even a silent source of hope for a child who just needed someone to listen. The theme of this year’s magazine, Ang Alimbukad, meaning “the bloom” or “the unfolding,” is not only symbolic—it is lived. The teaching internship was the season when ASTeans bloomed. The growth wasn’t always loud or obvious, but it was constant. They learned how to handle a noisy class, how to adjust a lesson mid-way, how to speak with confidence, and how to lead with empathy. From unsure beginnings, they blossomed into individuals ready to embrace the teaching profession with courage and purpose. As April came to a close, so did this chapter of their journey. Yet they carried home more than just evaluation forms and certificates. They brought with them stories, experiences, and the kind of wisdom that can only be earned through immersion. The kind of wisdom that tells them they are no longer just students—they are educators in bloom. Indeed, Ang Alimbukad lives not just in the pages of this magazine, but in every ASTean who dared to enter the classroom, to try, to fail, to learn, and ultimately, to grow. The internship may have ended, but the blossoming has only just begun.
