significant role in Hampshire football. Portsmouth Royal Navy FC (PRNFC) was established in 1962 by Dennis Probee to elevate the standard of football among Royal Navy players. They competed in the Hants League until 1986, becoming a founding member of the new Wessex League and moving to the Victory Stadium at HMS Temeraire. The mid-90s were a golden era for PRNFC, finishing in the top half of the Wessex League and reaching the semi-finals of the Wessex Cup in 1994/95 and 1995/96. In 2002, the club was relegated to the Hampshire League but made an impressive comeback, rejoining the Wessex League in 2004/05 and rebranding as United Services Portsmouth FC (USPFC). Throughout the years, USPFC has seen numerous achievements, including reaching the semi-finals of the Hampshire FA Senior Cup and finishing 3rd in the league in 2008/09. The club introduced a youth section, and in 2011/12, USPFC won the Portsmouth FA Senior Cup. Recent successes include reaching the FA Vase semi-final in 2020/21, gaining promotion to the Wessex Premier League, and finishing 17th in their debut season. The women’s team also achieved promotion to the Southern Region Women’s League. USPFC continues to develop its youth teams and looks forward to future challenges with a new group of players and management.
before joining the Southampton Junior League in 1946. They won the Division One title and reached the Senior Cup final but lost. However, they secured the Cup and became Southampton League West Division champions the following season. Progressing to the Hampshire League, they debuted in Division Three West in 1950/51, won the title the next season, but did not move to Division Two until 1956/57. After four seasons in Division Two, they were relegated at the end of the 1959/60 season. For the next 15 years, the club faced misfortune, dropping to Division Four and experiencing promotions and relegations. In 1981/82, the Hampshire League reorganised, and Division Four merged with Division Three, leading to their promotion to Division Two. Three seasons later, they gained promotion to the top division and consistently finished in the top six, eventually winning the Championship in 1997/98. With the establishment of the Wessex League in 1986/87, the club focused on improving their facilities to meet league standards, negotiating with Fawley District Council for a long lease on a ground. Despite their Championship win in 1997/98, they failed to secure promotion due to incomplete ground improvements. Their chance for promotion came two years later, achieving their dream after 50 seasons in the Hampshire League. They were relegated to Division 2 in 2004 but became the second club in Hampshire football to be awarded the FA Adult Standard Charter in 2004/05. The 2008/09 season marked a return to success with promotion back to the top division of the Wessex League. Various managers led the club to success, including Ashley Vickers, who won the Sydenhams Wessex Premier League in 2012/13. The 2013/2014 season was tumultuous with numerous changes, but they managed a credible 6th place finish. In subsequent seasons, under the leadership of Glenn Howes and James Wood, the club enjoyed its most successful season in 2017/18, winning the Wessex Premier Division and gaining promotion to the Southern League. Success continued in 2018/19, with the club winning the Southern League South Division One and narrowly losing in the Southern League Cup semi-final. Over the years, the club has experienced significant cup success, with multiple appearances and victories in the Southampton Senior Cup, playing at The Dell and St Mary's.
