Fall Edition 2024

Letter from the Basileus Dear Sorors, This message will be bittersweet for me. I cannot believe my final year with Chi Delta Omega is ending. The memories and knowledge I have gained over the past thirteen years are enormous. The relationships that I have been able to establish are life changing. I am grateful for the members who made a conscious choice to pour into me through mentorship and guidance. You continued to cultivate me far after the sponsorship tenures were over and one of you insisted, I also cultivate myself by reading the governing documents From the carpool rides to chapter meetings (when I was local), late night phone calls, and fellowship lunches, whether we talked and engaged briefly or extensively, each of you hold a special place in my heart. Sorors, we have persevered through some challenges together. How did we do it? We did it by assessing the need, aligning together, and serving for the greater good of the community. The chapter still has some vital needs surrounding perpetuity. I plead with each of you to analyze your lives and determine what more can "you" do to aid in the perpetuity of the chapter and service to the community. For the past two years I drove over seven hundred miles, a total of 10.5 hours round trip one weekend per month. Why? Because the chapter and community needed a role filled to continue the work. Was it easy? No. Was it tiresome? Yes. Was it costly? Yes. But there were women in domestic violence shelters, foster children and youth of the community who needed the resources Chi Delta Omega provides. Therefore, I did what those called to serve vowed to do. I took the "I" out of the equation. I am encouraging you to do the same self-assessment. It is evident sorors and the chapter needs a hand, will you lend yours? In closing, although I am saddened to leave Chi Delta Omega, I will continue my journey with the sorority for a lifetime. The Basileus Elect and chapter Charter Member, Dr. Valentine, will take the chapter to newer heights with her vision, direction, and newly sworn officers. May 2025 grant you the fortitude and increased engagement to continue SOAR! Sisterly Love, Soror Kowanna Johnson Basileus

Polls

Soaring TO THE Advocating FOR Social Justice Many CDO members worked very hard to do everything in their power to support candidates and constitutional amendments. Members gave their time and energy to knock on doors, write postcards, make phone calls, text messages, tabulate numbers and wave signs to the tune of 197.5 hours. There were also members who generously contributed a total of $1,210.80. These stats only reflect numbers and activities reported to the committee by CDO members. There’s no doubt the statistics and dollars are under-reported. On behalf of Connections and Advocate for Social Justice, the co-chairs thank everyone for their dedicated service. Special recognition is extended to Soror Anita L. Jackson for reporting the most volunteer hours (80). Co-chairs: Sorors Myra Middleton-Valentine and Thea Hines-Jones
