SPRING INTO ACTION

Phase 2a of our new build is almost complete We are excited to reveal that our new and improved resuscitation and staff areas will be finished this spring. These facilities are part of our new urgent and emergency care renovations, which aim to deliver better patient and staff experiences. Our new resuscitation area, or resus, is fitted with modern technology and an ergonomic layout to provide optimal care for patients. It also has essential amenities such as a patient toilet, sluice, and storage room, which were added based on staff feedback. Another great feature of the project, is the sleek new staff area on the second floor, which will transform the working environment for our team. With a dedicated entrance and spacious layout, this revamped location offers a glossy retreat for staff to change, connect and recharge during breaks. It also has lockers to keep personal belongings safe, enhancing convenience and security. We are eager for our team to try out these new facilities and see the positive impact they will make on their satisfaction and wellbeing. We appreciate the dedication and hard work of our frontline staff, and we are committed to creating an environment that supports their wellbeing and professional growth. Senior nursing staff, who recently toured the new facilities, shared their enthusiasm for the upgrades: “It’ll bring emergency care into the 21st century for the people of Wirral. It’s certainly a nicer space for both staff and patients.” Bev Brewin. “I love the resus area. It has stateof-the-art monitors, a sluice, toilet, store room, and point of testing room.” Tom Fitzharris.

The Head of PMO & Senior Programme Manager reveals the importance of optimism, organisation and family time How would others describe you in three words? Motivated, collaborative, organised. What makes you happy about this project? The positive impact on the staff's environment and patient care. What is your work philosophy? Plan for the worst, hope for the best. What’s the most valuable advice you’ve ever received? Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy your children as they grow up. Tomorrow may be too late. LET’S WORK TOGETHER We are excited to offer collaborative content to our stakeholders and partners. We believe that working together will help us achieve our goals more effectively and efficiently. For more information, contact penny.fray@nhs.net If you found a genie in a bottle, what would be your three wishes? I'm very lucky. I have a wonderful family, a fulfilling job, great friends and a fortunate upbringing. I don't want anything else. But if I had to choose, I'd wish for: 1. A way to freeze time, as there's never enough time to do everything I want. 2. A lottery win, so I could help my friends and family financially. 3. A long, happy, healthy life for my children. Finally, tell us something about the project that people would be surprised to discover. Clinical building guidelines don't always cover staff facilities. That's why new builds often have poor ones. But UECUP and the management team prioritised a good staff area as well as a modern clinical facility.

UNLOCKING THE FUTURE

Automated drug cabinets set to transform care Image from Omnicell As part of the renovation and expansion of ED, we are delighted to announce the introduction of automated drug cabinets, which will revolutionise the way we store, dispense, and order drugs for patients. Automated drug cabinets are secure, computerised systems that allow specially trained staff to access and administer drugs with a simple scan of their fingerprints. No more fumbling for keys, wasting time, or risking errors. The cabinets will automatically track and record every transaction, ensuring traceability and accountability. They will also communicate with the pharmacy, sending alerts and orders when stocks are low or expired, ensuring the department always have the drugs needed. The benefits of automated drug cabinets are numerous: They will save time, improve workflow and enhance safety, said Joanna Jarvis, Clinical Change Lead for UECUP. “It will really improve access controls and safety – removing the reliance on physical sets of keys.”
