The CHIME program places children on a path to musical excellence and cultivates skills needed to succeed in all areas of life, including collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. While instrumental education offerings, grade levels served, and hours vary by location, the conviction that pursuing musical excellence is transformational, and that such an endeavor should be available to all, is central to CHIME. To learn more about CHIME, visit us online at esyo.org/chime or email chime@esyo.org. 2022-2023 ESYO Ensemble Handbook 7
Throughout the ESYO season, educational enrichment opportunities are offered to ensemble member musicians that correlate with experiences in the rehearsal room and support the trajectory of students working to achieve their musical goals. Past offerings have included audition workshops, master classes, Conducting seminars, improvisation clinics, pre-concert talks, guest speakers, pop-up performances, alumni panels, and community music projects. To keep updated on these opportunities, check out your Google Classroom and Weekly Newsletter. ESYO YOUNG LEADERS ESYO is excited to provide opportunities for the next generation of musicians and arts leaders to gain hands-on experience and assist with the programs of an internationally recognized youth orchestra. Young Leaders spend a full season being mentored by an arts leader in the ESYO community and participate an average of 8-10 hours a month in professional development and volunteerism in music education, special events, group projects, and administrative tasks. All 9th12th grade students in an ESYO Ensemble are eligible to participate. To learn more about the ESYO Young Leader program, visit esyo.org/youngleaders or email youngleader@esyo.org. Applications for 2022-2023 Young Leader cohort open August 1st. 8 2022-2023 ESYO Ensemble Handbook
DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION AT ESYO ESYO is committed to creating a culture of inclusivity in all our spaces whether we are in a rehearsal, performance, or online. In April 2020, ESYO established a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion task force made up of young musicians, staff, and board members to ignite our commitment and journey towards ensuring ESYO is a place where all voices are heard, everyone feels welcomed, and our diversity is celebrated. We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment regardless of ability, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, cultural background, national origin, citizenship, faith, ideology, or income. Throughout the season, ESYO members and stakeholders will be presented with opportunities to engage in conversations and workshops around our commitment to inclusivity. To learn more or to contact the chairperson of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force, please reach out to dei@esyo.org. All communication is confidential. CODE OF CONDUCT At all ESYO rehearsals, concerts, and events, you are expected to maintain a standard of conduct that will be a credit to yourself, your parents, school, and community, and that will contribute to the atmosphere of serious work and musical excellence that distinguishes ESYO. All members of any ESYO group, and the adults who work with them, must be respectful to, and supportive of, one another. We do not tolerate bullying, harassment, or threatening behavior. These behaviors may include actions or statements that are designed to disturb or upset others, may be repetitive, and are often distinguished by issues of power and control. Youth or adults in ESYO experiencing or observing such behavior should report it immediately. Incident reports are confidential and can be completed online at esyo.org/member/report-it. We take reports of such behavior seriously. All reports will be investigated to ensure that ESYO continues to be a safe learning environment. 2022-2023 ESYO Ensemble Handbook 9
