Their role within this team is Creative Solutions and Wellbeing Worker and they will be looking at creative solutions to aid recovery, those that fall outside of normal treatment, based on ABCD or ABCE models of recovery. This will entail a whole person centred approach where they will assess a person’s personal interests, hobbies, aspirations, skills, qualifications, etc. to try to engage and re-connect them to these. It’s about reconnection to self and society. If you have any great ideas or great connections with organisations, initiatives, companies and/or people that you feel they should be talking to, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the team via your worker/supervisor. We want to hear from you! www.edp.org.uk/reach 3

News:

Testimony from a client: “Before COVID-19 I had not had a drink for 42 days, I was working and enjoying an alcohol free life with my family. Then lockdown happened, I was furloughed, my routine and structured was taken away, I had to try and support my daughter who has struggles of her own. My mood became low, old habits returned and I lapsed. My Family Support Worker contacted me and I told her what had happened. She put a plan together for me which I am trying hard to stick to. I am using the online resources available to me and having weekly phone 1:1’s as well as workbooks emailed to me. It’s still a struggle but I know the support is there for me when I need it” Further info: Family Information Service (FIS) – this has a wealth of information including childcare providers, support, SEN, activities available and contact details. This can be accessed by anyone and we encourage parents and families to refer to it regularly. https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/children-families/get-help-for-your-family/family-information-service.aspx Further info: Family Information Directory this has an easy to use search and filter facility to make accessing relevant information as easy as possible. https://familyinformationdirectory.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/kb5/dorset/fsd/home.page www.edp.org.uk/reach 6

New Mental Health service: Connection Connection is a round-the-clock helpline for people needing mental health support. The number - 0800 652 0190 - offers 24/7 telephone access to mental health advice and support for people of all ages. Staff are trained to support anyone who calls, regardless of the level of their mental health crisis. If they cannot help you resolve your problems directly, they can signpost you to the most appropriate service to meet your needs. If you require urgent, face-to-face help or advice, they may direct you to your nearest Retreat or Community Front Room. Alternatively, they may put you in touch with our Steps to Wellbeing service, your local Community Mental Health Team or a charity such as the Dorset Mental Health Forum. They can also arrange an urgent assessment within four hours if required. If you are struggling to cope or feel close to the edge, for whatever reason, help is just a phone call away. 0800 652 0190 The Retreat The Retreat is a safe, welcoming place to discuss your problems, access support and work towards solutions. Staffed by both mental health professionals and peer specialists (people with personal experience of mental health issues), The Retreat offers outof-hours support and advice on self-management. You don’t need to be referred by a doctor or other health professional, and you don’t need to phone ahead – just turn up and ring the front doorbell. The Retreat will not offer medication or structured therapy. If you require a different level of support, we may offer you an assessment and a possible referral to other clinical services. Community Front Rooms Community Front Rooms are back open for face-to-face drop-ins and will continue to provide virtual drop-in sessions. Both are available Thursday-Sunday from 3.15-10.45pm for support. Community Front Rooms (CFRs) are open to anyone over 18 who needs face-to-face support. They are staffed by mental health professionals and peer specialists (people with personal experience of mental health issues), and are there for you if you are struggling to cope and feel you are approaching a crisis point. CFRs are welcoming, informal, safe spaces where you can discuss your problems. Staff will not offer medication or structured therapy, but rather self-management advice and support that helps you find the solutions to aid your recovery. There is no referral or appointment needed, just turn up and ring the doorbell. If the staff feel the CFR is not the most appropriate level of support for you, they may offer you an assessment which may lead to further support from the other mental health services available. CFRs are provided by charitable housing association BCHA, which works in partnership with local charity Hope to run the Shaftsbury CFR, and local charity Burrough Harmony to deliver the Bridport CFR. CFRs are not able to work with people who: • require medical attention beyond basic first aid/wound care • are intoxicated by alcohol or substances • display threatening or physically aggressive behaviour • are under the age of 18.
