PRINCIPALS DESK s w w e e N N hoool Sch S TERM 2 Dear Parents and Guardians, As we move through another busy and rewarding school term, I would like to take a moment to reflect on something that lies at the heart of every child’s growth and development: the way we respond to them during their most challenging moments. As parents and educators, it is often easy to focus on behaviour itself—the tantrum, the defiance, the withdrawal, the tears. Yet behind every behaviour is a message. A child who is acting out may be seeking connection. A child who shuts down may be searching for safety. A child having a tantrum may be overwhelmed by emotions they do not yet know how to manage. A child who appears defiant may be looking for a sense of control, while a child who clings may simply need reassurance. These moments can test our patience, but they also present some of the greatest opportunities to influence a child's emotional wellbeing. We may not always be able to change how a child feels in the moment, but we can choose how we respond. When we respond with patience instead of anger, curiosity instead of judgement, and connection instead of rejection, we teach children lessons that extend far beyond obedience. We help them understand that their feelings are manageable, that they are safe, and that they are worthy of support—even on their hardest days. The voice children hear from the adults around them gradually becomes the voice they carry within themselves. The encouragement, understanding and reassurance they receive today shape their confidence, resilience and self-worth for years to come. At our school, we are committed to nurturing not only academic progress but also emotional growth and functional independence in our learners in all areas of their life. We value our partnership with parents in creating environments where children feel seen, heard and supported. Together, we can help our children develop the skills they need to navigate challenges, build healthy relationships and thrive. Behaviour is temporary. The way we make children feel about themselves can last a lifetime. Thank you for your continued support and for the important role you play collaboration with our staff in shaping the lives of our children Enjoy a wonderful winter break with your children and make beautiful memories!

WORLD PLAY DAY The learners had an amazing time celebrating World of Play Day. It was heartwarming to see them interacting, playing together, and fully enjoying the activities. The energy, teamwork, and laughter filled the play session as they explored, created, and simply enjoyed being children. Play is such a vital part of learning, and it reminded us how much our learners thrive when they have space to imagine and connect with one another.

W W E E N N OL HOO SCH S TERM 2 AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH During Autism Awareness Month in April, OT Ambre arranged a week of meaningful and inclusive activities for all learners across the classes to promote understanding, acceptance, and celebration of autism. On Monday, each class participated in decorating a puzzle piece, encouraging creativity and discussions around autism awareness. Tuesday focused on kindness and inclusion, with learners creating handprints and hand drawings that were added to a kindness tree to symbolise support, friendship, and acceptance. Wednesday was “Sunglasses Day,” aimed at highlighting the experiences of learners who have sensory sensitivities, particularly to bright lights and busy environments. On Thursday, learners participated in picture charades to bring awareness to non-verbal ASD learners and to emphasise the importance of alternative forms of communication. The week concluded on Friday with a superhero dress-up day, celebrating the unique strengths, abilities, and individuality of our learners with ASD and reinforcing the message that autism is a superpower.
