tonight's production, Barbara Arnold Well, here we are again! This year's offering is the good old favourite, Cinderella. It is always difficult to present a big show on a very small stage and as always it's a huge team effort, from rehearsal refreshments to Costume, Lights and Sound, Set creating, Props, Prompt, Curtains and Front of House, not forgetting, of course, the Cast and Singers. I thank them all for their hard work, patience and good humour as we all pitched in together to create this Northlew version of Cinderella. So, always look on the Bright side of Life (small clue!) and we all hope you enjoy a good sing song and a laugh or two along the way. With huge thanks to all involved.

Cinderella or The Little Glass Slipper, is a folk tale with thousands of variants that are told throughout the world. The protagonist is a young girl living in unfortunate circumstances who is suddenly blessed with remarkable fortune, ultimately ascending to the throne through marriage. The story of Rhodopis—recounted by the Greek geographer Strabo sometime between 7 BC and AD 23—is about a Greek slave girl who marries the king of Egypt, and is usually considered to be the earliest known variant of the Cinderella story. The first literary European version of the story was published in Italy by Giambattista Basile in his Pentamerone in 1634. The version that is now most widely known in the English-speaking world was published in French by Charles Perrault Cendrillon illustration by Otto Kubel, c. 1930 Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons

"Histories or tales of times passed") in 1697 as Cendrillon, and was anglicized as Cinderella.[5] Another version was later published as Aschenputtel by the Brothers Grimm in their folk tale collection Grimms' Fairy Tales in 1812. Although the story's title and main character's name change in different languages, in English-language folklore Cinderella is an archetypal name. The word Cinderella has, by analogy, come to mean someone whose attributes are unrecognized or someone who unexpectedly achieves recognition or success after a period of obscurity and neglect. In the world of sports, ‘a Cinderella’ is used for an underrated team or club winning over stronger and more favoured competitors. The still-popular story of Cinderella continues to influence popular culture internationally, lending plot elements, allusions, and tropes to a wide variety of media. Why did Cinderella get kicked off the football team? Because she always ran away from the ball! What did Cinderella say when her photos didn’t come out? “Someday my prints will come!” Why did Cinderella get a good deal on her glass slippers? They were on ‘clear’ance! Why isn't Cinderella good at sports? She never learnt well because her coach was a vegetable. And finally: My daughter wanted a Cinderella themed birthday party. . . . . . . so I made her and all her friends clean the house.

we look forward to welcoming you to the chaos again, when Northlew becomes the entertaining capital of the world once more. th 24th- 26 July, 2026 Break a leg, NADS! scan for our crowdfund your kind donations help keep us going BANDAMONIUM.co.uk
