Conference on Child Sexual Abuse Prevention and Treatment

30 Years of Uphill Efforts

In 1990, the Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Sexual Abuse (CPTCSA) embarked on a mission to address the issue of child sexual abuse by focusing on prevention and treatment. The organization's journey upstream, akin to the metaphorical "River Story," symbolizes their commitment to understanding and addressing the root causes of the problem. The conference marks a celebration of 30 years of dedicated work towards fixing the bridge that allows children to fall through the cracks of society.

At the core of CPTCSA's inception were the efforts of founders Zeny Rosales and Lois Engelbrecht, who recognized the need for preventive measures and support services for children who had experienced sexual abuse. Their early research efforts revealed alarming rates of abuse among both girls and boys, prompting them to take action. With a team of professionals and grassroots support, CPTCSA was established in 1995, starting with modest funding but a grand vision to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children.

The organization's grassroots approach, focusing on research, solutions, and community engagement before seeking financial support, set the foundation for its impactful initiatives. From pioneering programs in schools and communities to advocating for policy changes and fostering partnerships with government and international entities, CPTCSA has been at the forefront of the fight against child sexual abuse for three decades.
