An inviting space designed for 2.5‑year‑olds, the Collies Room provides several specialized play areas, including zones for drawing, hands‑on exploration, building, imaginative play, small‑world setups, and a book corner. Upon arrival, children follow a simple sign‑in routine—hanging their coat on a peg and placing a ring on a tree to show they are present—and they can access a water bottle kept in a trolley for easy hydration. The room also centers on a set of Collies Golden Values to support safety and a positive atmosphere.
The daily schedule offers a predictable rhythm, with structured blocks for meals, free play, group activities, tidy‑up times, snack and outdoor periods, stories or music, and quiet or adult‑led activities. Forest school sessions occur twice weekly, with advance notice each term so families can prepare and bring appropriate gear; nappies are changed at designated times, and regular updates are shared with parents about forest activities and progress.
The program emphasizes growing independence: as children reach 2.5, staff support them to perform more tasks on their own, such as using utensils, putting on coats, handling pencils and scissors, and managing basic toilet routines. There is a dedicated changing area for nappies if needed, plus access to potties and toilets for those ready to be without nappies. Handwashing before meals is encouraged, using the sink after messy activities to promote hygiene.
